Phra Sangkachai (Nur Thong Deang), Luang Phor Doo, Wat Sakae, Ayutthaya Province (B.E.2517)
Phra Sangkajai or Sangkachai (Thai: พระสังกัจจายน์). Phra Sangkajai, a Thai spelling of Mahakaccayanathera (Thai: มหากัจจายนเถระ), was a Buddhist Arhat (in Sanskrit) or Arahant (in Pali) during the time of the Lord Buddha. Lord Buddha praised Phra Sangkajai for his excellence in explaining sophisticated dharma (or dhamma) in an easily and correctly understandable manner. Phra Sangkajai also composed the Madhupinadika Sutra. One tale relates that he was so handsome that once even a man wanted him for a wife. To avoid a similar situation, Phra Sangkajai decided to transform himself into a fat monk. Another tale says he was so attractive that angels and men often compared him with the Buddha. He considered this inappropriate, so disguised himself in an unpleasantly fat body. Phra Sangkajai has a trace of hair on his head (looking similar to the Buddha's). Phra Sangkajai wears the robes in Theravadin Buddhist fashion with the robes folded across one shoulder, leaving the other uncovered. Thais believed that Phra Sangkajai amulet will bring Good Luck, Great business sales and unexpected Wealthy coming in. Thanks for people who support us. This amulet has been rented out. Last but not least is good fortune and luck. Luck will look down upon you wherever you go. This Khun Paen Pong Plai Guman amulet will bring the owner luck and fortune in abundance. With these three blessings the quality of your life will dramatically improve forever. What is Plai Guman powder ??? Luang Pu Tim of Wat Lahanrai used to create Pong Plai Guman powder followed very ancient ways, which only a few monks had the knowledge to create successfully. Kon Kulahp (the disciple of Luang Pu Tim) was instructed by Luang Pu Tim to find the corpse of a woman that died during pregnancy and the woman should have died on a Saturday and cremated on a Tuesday. He was further told that once such a cadaver was located that he should remove parts of the child's skull, from the unborn fetus and not look back once the sacred material had been secured. This was carried out in accordance with the wishes of Luang Pu Tim. Luang Pu Tim chanted a special Katha for one week in order to prevent the spirit departing from the Plai Guman. Once completed, Kon Kulahp was instructed to pound and grind the material into a fine powder, which he commenced to do, before becoming somewhat disturbed by sparks emanating from the mortar. He had to burn incense and ask for forgiveness before this phenomena abated. Luang Pu Tim took the Plai Guman powder and mixed it with a number of other sacred powders including, Itije powder, Patamang powder, Jindahmanee powder and 108 different herbs and sedges. The mixture was chanted for days on end. The Plai Guman was also added to a few other batches of amulets including this Khun Paen , Phra Somdej, Phra Piddta and Phra Kring Chinabahnchorn. In the case of the Phra Kring amulet the material was added to the base. The Reason why Luang Pu Tim chose to use the skull of a dead child in the process was because the amulet made by Plai Guman will provide merit from Lord Buddha and the power and protection will come from Plai Guman. Phra Buddha Chinnaraj Buccha (9 inch Lap), Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahatat Woramahawihan (Wat Yai), Phitsanulok Province (B.E.2548)
Size : 9 inch Lap (Height 22 inch x Width 16 inch) Every buccha come with individual code number in thai numerals. Biography of Phra Buddha Chinnaraj "Victory Buddha" Phra Buddha Chinnaraj is one of the most beautiful and venerated Buddha sculpture in the posture of submitting Mara in Thailand. Wat Yai is famous throughout Thailand for this gold casted Phra Buddha Chinnaraj also known as “Victory Buddha” to the Thais. Wat Yai (meaning Big Temple) is also referred to as Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahatat Woramahawihan and it is regarded as the most important Thai Theravada monastery in Phitsanulok Province. Inside Wat Yai hosts Phra Buddha Chinnaraj which was built during the reign of King Mahathamma Racha Lithai in AD 1357. The pearl inlaid wooden doors of the temple were built by King Borommakot in AD 1756 dedicated to Phra Buddha Chinnaraj. Behind the temple is a large pagoda measuring 36m high with a staircase leading up to the niche containing Lord Buddha’s relics. In front of the pagoda, there is Phra Attharos, a standing Buddha image. Throughout history, the Royal family in Thailand firmly believed in Phra Buddha Chinnaraj until the extent that King Rama 5 faithfully made several copies of the Victory Buddha to be placed in other parts of Thailand including Wat Benchamabophit in Bangkok and Wat Saranat Thammaram in Rayong. However, the original Phra Buddha Chinnaraj at Wat Yai remained as the most popular and why is it so? We may want to dwell into the history making of this sacred Buddha, second in Thailand after the sacred Emerald Buddha of Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok. According to commentary records emphasized that Phra Buddha Chinnaraj is the most powerful and respected Buddha in Thailand. Not only that. It’s also regarded as a perfect Buddha in the Thai Kingdom. The sculpture of this Buddha for Success traced back to AD1357 with over 650 years of history. During the Sukhothai era, King Mahathamma Racha Lithai felt devastated over the many deaths due to war. Feeling unrest due to the fear of Karma for the many killings had caused King Lithai grave concerns. In order to reduce his own Karma and seek forgiveness from his lost soldiers at the battlefield, he wanted to perform some good deeds. Hence, King Lithai ordered the construction of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat. More importantly, the King had wished to have 3 residing Buddha gilded in gold to be constructed and placed inside the new temple; Phra Buddha Chinnaraj, Phra Buddha Chinnasri and Phra Buddha Satsada. King Lithai had especially engaged 5 of the most cultivated holy men in white robes with austerity practice to participate in the making of the three Buddha sculptures. In addition to that, he also sought the best sculptors at that time in the formation of this working team. The Buddha statues are made from a combination of 5 metal compounds; gold, silver, copper, metal and tin. When the construction of all the statues was completed, the unexpected happened. Only 2 of the statues was successfully completed which was Phra Buddha Chinnasri and Phra Buddha Satsada. The Phra Buddha Chinnaraj failed for unknown reason. Not long after that, King Lithai ordered the construction of Phra Chinnaraj again for the 2nd time. This time more specialists were engaged to do the job. Again the project failed and nobody knows the reason for the failure. Rendered with such disaster, he then decided to defer the construction of Phra Buddha Chinnaraj for a while. However, he did not give up the plan just because of the “unknown” problems that was encountered. He offered prayers to have a solemn and perfect Buddha statue for the Thai people to venerate. Two years went by and the King had decided it’s time he would begin construction of Phra Buddha Chinnaraj for the 3rd time. Everything went well at first but when come to the stage of pouring the 5 metal composites during the casting process, uneasy feelings crept into the minds of the sculptors fearing the recurrence of previous unsuccessful attempts. An elderly man in white robe suddenly appeared out from nowhere to give them assurance and offered to help. Before long, the material casting process of Phra Buddha Chinnaraj was done. Everyone prayed sincerely at the crucial moment of opening the casting mould to see the outcome of the statue whether this time they succeed in their attempt or fail again. Gradually the mould encasing the Victory Buddha was opened and the golden structure began to illuminate. Tears flowed from the eyes of King Lithai and everyone as they have been bestowed upon a solemn Buddha statue and a successful mission accomplished. While everyone was admiring the newly constructed statue, they suddenly realized the elderly man in white robe vanished into thin air was nowhere to be found. People started to speculate that the elderly man was a celestial being sent from heaven to assist in the construction of the Victory Buddha. The King then ordered the construction of a small temple as thanksgiving to commemorate the elderly man. In Thai scriptures, it’s mentioned that at the sides surrounding the Victory Buddha are two ferocious Nagas (dragon) that frequently caused harms and devastation to people. Finally, they were subdued by Lord Buddha and were converted as celestial Dharma guardians. The other 2 celestial beings that are placed near to both knees of Lord Buddha are the powerful Dharma protectors; Hanuman (Monkey God) and Tao Tetsuwan (Door Guardian). Thai people and many Buddhist prayed to the Victory Buddha and most of their wishes are answered. (This article ''Biography of Phra Buddha Chinnaraj '' is from a blogger. Just for reference.) The majestic Phra Buddha Chinaraj projects an aura of authority to its bearer, at the same time providing protection, dispelling evil, bringing wealth by promoting smoothness in our endeavour, success, loving kindness, good luck, family harmony, etc. This post has been edited by Nicklkc: Nov 12 2012, 08:43 AM Attached thumbnail(s) |

Phra Somdej BKP Roon Soon Gao, Phim Sen Daai, Mass Chanted, Wat Bang Khun Prom (B.E.2509)
About 140 years ago, the sacred plaque Phra Somdej was made by Archan Toh who had built 3 temples which were respectively the ChaiYo Woraviharn, the Wat Rakang Kositaram and Wat Bangkhunprom (later divided into Wat Mai Amataros and Wat Intharaviharn). When Phra Somdej Toh was serving his last year term at Wat In (Wat Intarawihan) he made the last batch of sacred plaques and buried them all at the burial ground in a nearby chedi in Wat Amataros, at that time a short walking distance to Wat In located in Angtong province. In B.E.2509, 2517 and 1931, Wat Bang Khun Prom used old broken amulets from Wat Mai Amataros, including those of Phra Somdej Archan Toh for new a new series of Phra Somdej. Somdej Phra Phutdhajharn (Toh), Wat Rakang, made and blessed the most famous Somdej Wat Rakang between B.E. 2400-2413. This is a beautiful Phra Somdej BKP 2509 with equally clear and perfect condition, encasing with 900 Solid Yellow Gold waterproof frame. Temple chop behind of the amulet. Somdej Toh passed away in B.E. 2415 (1872) at the age of 85. All his Somdej amulets were blessed by himself with ChinnaBanchorn Katha. Materials for making the Somdejs comprise: shell lime, Phong Vises ( holy powder), assorted flowers from shrine, rice remains after his consumption, lotus, banana, ashes from incense burns, honey, tang oil, etc. The Phra Somdej amulet is probably the most popular amulet in Thailand. It has been created by countless monks ever since the first Somdej amulet, Somdej Orahang or Ong Tee Neung, was consecrated by acting Supreme Patriart of Thailand, Phra Sankaraj Suk from Wat Mahathat in B.E. 2360-2363. It was this amulet that formed the template for the later and possibly greatest Somdej amulets of all time created by Somdej Phra Buddhacharn (Somdej Toh) from Wat Rakhang and Wat Bangkhunprom. Reference book: "Phra Bang Khun Prom 2509 and Powder Amulet of Wat Mai Ammataros" by Teerayuth Chong Boon Ya Nu Parb, illustrates 2509 batch, 2517 batch, 2531 batch, Somdej 100th Anniversary (Roi Pee) Wat Rakang, Somdej Luang Ta Pan, Somdet LP.Lampoo. Features, every pattern of each batch. In B.E. 2509, when Wat Bang Khun Prom held a major celebration to build a large statue of Buddha and Phra Somdej Puttajahn (Toh Promarangsee), there was also a batch of somdej amulets of mixed powder being chanted. It is called mixed powder somdej because the amulets were mixed with many different types of amulets from old chedi all over thailand; old somdej amulets from Chedi of Wat Bang Khun Prom, amulets from Chedi of Wat Sahm Pheaum, amulets from Chedi of Wat Kroosalort, Ayutthaya, Phra Nang Phaya amulets from Chedi of Phitsanulok Province and even first batch of Wat Paknam amulets. Mainly, this batch of somdej amulets was chanted for the purpose of replacing the broken old somdej amulets from the old chedi of Wat Bang Khun Prom. (The old chedi was opened in B.E.2500 and all the somdej amulets that were placed there by Phra Somdej Puttajahn Toh, a hundred of years ago were removed from the chedi to prevent further damage to the chedi and theft on the old somdej amulets). Half of the newly chanted somdej amulets would be placed inside the repaired chedi and the other half would be distributed to the public. As such, this batch of somdej amulets is also called Phra Somdej Soon Gao(09), meaning somdej amulets chanted in B.E.2509. On 4th January B.E.2509, this batch of amulets was chanted at Wat Bang Khun Prom. There were many famous monks participated in the chanting: 1. Luang Pu Nak, Wat Rakang 2. Luang Phor Ngern, Wat DornYaaiHorm 3. Luang Phor Tae, Wat SahmNgahn 4. Luang Phor Nor, Wat GlahngTahReau 5. Ajahn Tim, Wat Chiang Hai 6. Ajahn AmPon, Wat Prasat 7. Ajahn Dteum, Wat PraLory 8. Luang Phor Horm, Wat ChakHaMahk 9. Tahn Chao Khun WimLaGitJahn, Wat ChaNaSongRahm 10. Phra Khru PlayWiSutTiWat, Wat Suthat The materials that were used for this batch of amulets were: 1. Sea Shell Powder 2. Tang Tiw Oil 3. Sugar Cane Water 4. Many tins of broken Pra Somdej Bang Khun Prom from old Chedi 5. Powder from amulets of Wat Sahm Pheaum Chedi - 2 KG 6. Powder from amulets of Wat Kroosalort Chedi - 2 KG 7. Phra Wat Paknam first batch - 19 pieces 8. Phra Nang Phaya - 3 to 4 pieces 9. Incense Powder 10. Candles 11. Yellow Plaster 12. Flowers There were a total of 14 different Pims created for this batch, but not all were placed into the Chedi. There different Pims and quantity of amulets placed inside the Chedi are: 1. Pim Yai - 10,500 pieces 2. Pim Trong Jedee - 10,500 pieces 3. Pim Tahn Saen - 10,500 pieces 4. Pim Prok Poh - 10,500 pieces 5. Pim Sen Daai - 10.500 pieces 6. Pim Sang Kah Ti - 10.500 pieces 7. Pim Tahn Koo - 10,500 pieces 8. Pim Sian Baht Ork Krut - 10,500 pieces 9. Pim Pra Norn - 509 pieces 10. Pim Jan Lory - 1,250 pieces 11. Pim Kanean See Leam - 209 pieces Total pieces placed inside Chedi were 85, 968 pieces The rest of the amulets which were distributed to the public, according to the records are: 1. Pim Yai - 10,209 pieces 2. Pim Trong Jedee - 12,509 pieces 3. Pim Tahn Saen - 8,000 pieces 4. Pim Prok Poh - 6,000 pieces 5. Pim Sen Daai - 9,500 pieces 6. Pim Sang Kah Ti - 11,000 pieces 7. Pim Tahn Koo - 8,000 pieces 8. Pim Sian Baht Ork Krut - 7,200 pieces 9. Pim Pra Norn - 509 pieces 10. Pim Jan Lory - 790 pieces 11. Pim Kanean See Leum - 700 pieces Total pieces distributed to public were 74,417 pieces In addition, there were 3 more pims, but there were no records of how many pieces were chanted. They are, Pim Get Bua Dtum, Pim Roop Meuan Somdej Puttajahn Toh Hah Leam and Pim Roop Meuan Somdej Puttajahn Toh See Leam. One important thing to note about this batch of somdej amulets, is that every pieces of amulets are different and not the same in terms of clarity and sizes, this is because this batch of amulets were hand made. Due to the mixtures of many types of powders, the colour of the amulets also varies from one another, some are more white, so more yellowish and some even can see old somdej powder. In regards, to the temple chop at the back of the amulet, some amulets has a clearer chop, some lighter, some darker and some without chop. Phra Somdej Bang Khun Prom Roon 09 is as good as the old somdej Bang Khun Prom chanted by Phra PuttaJahn Toh, this is because it contained the old somdej powder. Not only it was chanted by many famous and good monks, it was chanted for a good purpose as well. Good for Metta Maha Niyom (loving kindness), Kong Grapan (invulnerable against weapons), Klaew Klaad (protection) etc. Ultimately, the use of this amulet depends on the wearer himself. Mini Bia Gae (Phim Lek), Luang Phor Cher, Wat Klang Bang Kaew, Nakorn Pathom (B.E. 2551)
Size : 2 cm x 1.8 cm This Bia Gae is made and blessed by Luang Phor Cher (also know as Luang Phor Jurah). Luang Phor Cher is expert in making good and effective Bia Gae who will block Bad Luck, Black Magic, Metta and Protection. Luang Phor Cher is the disciple of Luang Phor Perm Wat Klang Bang Kaew where he has taken over the position after he passed away. Other than making good and effective Bia Gae, Luang Phor Cher also good in making good Jindamanee powder which is famous in Thailand and even donated to other temple to make amulets from it. Suitable for females and kids due to the small size. Bia Gae The magic science to create Bia Gae amulets was known and inherited from the Ayuttaya Period or at least 400-500 years ago and many believe that the tradition is older than that. Bia Gae (Cowrie/Cowry/Seashell, commonly filled with mercury and takrut) is a special kind of amulet which is widely use to avoid and protect from Black Magic, Evil Forces, Ghosts and Spirits. Cowrie or Cowry shell is a very beautiful shiny tropical sea shell, it is humped back sometimes decorated with spots like a leopard skin. During ancient time in China, South East Asia and Africa, it was commonly used as coin or money. The Thai people called it Bia Gae and used it instead as a talisman for protection. The arched back of cowrie is like a shield and therefore it is believe that it could bounce off evil energy, similar to tortoise shell was employed by Feng Shui master in China for warding off bad energy. Mercury was also filled inside the cowrie, takrut then placed at the gap of the cowrie, and sealed tightly with special ingredients preventing it from leakage. Sometimes, it will be tied around with strings and painted with lacquer. The wearer believes that he will be protected against: black magic, bad luck, evil forces and demons. Bia Gae are known to be effective for protection and in particular from evil influences and malevolent spirits. It is not uncommon for persons on their death bed to request such an amulet as protection from spirits that will endlessly disturb and torture the dying. It is said by some that such amulets will also help to set the soul free and give protection beyond the grave, ensuring a smooth passage into the next life.
