Depends on which tampon you buy. Some has an applicator (handle) and some dont. The ones that I use are OB tampons, they don't hv an applicator.
This is how you should put it in. First squat or put one of your feet on the toilet bowl, then unwrap the tampon and pull the string that's all curled up at the base (this is what you use to take it out later). Then poke it in using your finger (for tampons with the applicator, you don't hv to use your fingers). You must aim it towards your back, not upwards. It might be easier to go in if you kind of rub it a bit first so that its a bit wet at the tip. After that, wash that area and your hands. |

it'll hurt if you're dry, so better not use it when your flow is light. Thats why I said you should wet it a bit before slipping it in. You should push it in as deep as your fingers can reach so that its comfortable and wont slip out. Make sure you don't lose the string inside if not it'll be an embarrassing trip to the doctors

When you buy the tampons they will have an instruction leaflet in it. Just follow the instructions.
I'd recommend that you buy the ones with the applicator and not like OB ones since you have to use your finger and it's kinda uncomfortable and messy. Also go for the 'slimfit' ones from Playtex since like the title says it will be slimmer. Even better go for regular (not super) since the applicator (and tampon) will be smaller. If you're just trying it out for the first time check out if you can use regular for about 4 hours. Good luck. |

Yah, Playtex is the easiest to use. With the applicator, you dont have to worry if you've pushed it deep enough..

actually why do women use tampons? I'm thinking of doing some night jobs so i won't think it's a good idea to wear pads with dress and all that, also during clubbing,i guess it's better to wear a tampon.
and i have one worry,if i'm having an extremely heavy flow, will it "overflow"? Assuming wearing it for 2 hours. And ice,why do you use one without an applicator? Thanks!! |

QUOTE(namae_dake @ Jul 4 2008, 01:29 AM) actually why do women use tampons? I'm thinking of doing some night jobs so i won't think it's a good idea to wear pads with dress and all that, also during clubbing,i guess it's better to wear a tampon. Personally I started wearing tampons because pads were SO uncomfortable! I remember once in school, my mom had to drive all the way to school during recess to give me tampons since i refused to wear a textbook thick pad for the rest of the day. That was of course back in the day when pads weren't so thin. I was also very into sports so tampons definitely were needed for that.and i have one worry,if i'm having an extremely heavy flow, will it "overflow"? Assuming wearing it for 2 hours. And ice,why do you use one without an applicator? Thanks!! Benefits? - no leakage (really heavy flow? you need to go for super. but max 4 hours, do not leave a tampon in past 4 hours ever. if it does leak it doesn't come out fast .. eek .. that sounds gross but true, so you have time to head to the loo and change) - no need to wear 'granny' undies or clothing to cover up - you can be active/sporty and not worry about it moving about (like a pad) Downside - you must be regular at changing your tampon, max 4 hours so sometimes you have to 'time' it and schedule - tampons are expensive compared to pads - on your light flow days, when you're dry it won't absorb so much so removal is leceh (use thin/day pad on these days instead) |

I'm thinking of doing some night jobs so i won't think it's a good idea to wear pads with dress and all that, also during clubbing,i guess it's better to wear a tampon. Honestly the reason why i used the one without the applicator coz its cheaper and somehow its easier to get than the playtex one. Its available in more shopsand i have one worry,if i'm having an extremely heavy flow, will it "overflow"? Assuming wearing it for 2 hours. And ice,why do you use one without an applicator? Thanks!! i use tampons coz I dont like using pads. I find them uncomfortable and bulky. Plus it makes me feel icky and wet down there. if u hv heavy flow then change it more often or use the high absorbancy ones. at night I usually use a pad coz don't want to make up in the middle of nite to change. Or towards the end of my period I'll use pads plus u can still fool around with ur husband/bf if you wear tampons as opposed to pads |

Hi i've just bought the OB tampon from caring pharmacy...it's the one without applicator and i'm a beginner so it hurts a lot even thogh it's heavy flow and even though my hymen is no longer there...and even though i've already pushed as deep as i can i'll still feel something in there, and when i sit it causes discomfort.is it my vagina just being too tight?
I don't understand how applicator helps though...really need some comment here Where to get playtex anyway? Thanks!! |

Well, tampons r much more secure than sanitary pads u noe. Sanitary pads leak often n whereas tampons don't. I told my gf to use tampons too, but den she is kinda used 2 sanitary pads so its kinda hard 2 change. But if u r saying dat by using tampons won't break da hymen of a virgin, i seriously doubt, especially for beginners. yep, u all r right. Its da angle. I was told by a friend of mine dat its da angle dat matters when it comes to using a tampon. Da idea is to fit it in da correct position or else u will get dat pain. Its not easy to get da rite spot as its a wide space inside. |
