QUOTE(nightblindness @ Jun 19 2008, 01:59 PM) hi all.i m new here..i would like ask whether i need go there by 28 or 29 june and if go there earlier will they provide us the place to stay and will pick us from airport to UMS??hence, need to buy laptop ant?? further more if wanna meet up there(lowyat member)maybe show some indication or sign such as wear wat kinda colour t-shirts n etc.. You can go there by 28th or 29th, any will do. They will definitely provide a place for you to stay at 28th but before that I can't guarantee. Another option for accommodation is Tune Hotel at 1borneo which is next to UMS and the price is around RM50 per night only. On 28th onwards, they will provide transportation at the airport; UMS will set up a booth at the airport so just sign up there and the seniors will guide you. About laptop, I will suggest you to buy after the orientation or wait till the PC fair in mid July for better offer and etc. Hope this helps. QUOTE(nightblindness @ Jun 19 2008, 02:38 PM) thanks alot.its reli help me alot..hmm..wat bout da fees cuz i cant load da page of current fees in UMS website.and also for the loan izzit UMS just acept certain bank.cuz i wanna apply PTPTN loan as well..hey!!!did anybody take economics finance??i would like to know..thanx.. You need to open a bank account at CIMB bank in order to apply PTPTN. They will deposit money to that account every sem once you got it. Plus, you'll need to pay your hostel and course fee through CIMB bank. You'll also receive RM1.5K as wang pendahuluan if I am not mistaken. You can either use it or leave it as it is but PTPTN will deduct it from your acc in other sem. Maybank is a good choice since most of the ATM machine in UMS, especially in Residential College E (Kampung E) is Maybank. UMS has CIMB bank in the campus but not Maybank. You'll have to go to the city for Maybank which is more difficult if you are not from KK. My suggestion is to open acc at both banks. CIMB for Uni usage such as course fee, loan, etc while Maybank for personal expense and savings. This post has been edited by lwsn: Jun 19 2008, 02:58 PM |

QUOTE(balanar_27 @ Jun 20 2008, 07:27 AM) Yes, you may but I don't think they have the X-ray check-up facilities.Added on June 20, 2008, 12:28 pm QUOTE(HolyJudgement @ Jun 20 2008, 12:15 PM) just went to the gov hospital and ask...they say just show them the medical form den they'll do all for u just for rm 10....way cheaper....still waiting for the offer letter and all the other stuff though.... I agree that it's much cheaper but you'll be put along a long queue, especially when every freshmen is heading the gov hospital for the check up. My suggestion is that if you don't face financial constraint, go for the private for medical check-up and instant result in less than 2 days. Otherwise, go for thr gov hospital. QUOTE(Demonic Wrath @ Jun 21 2008, 01:49 AM) If I am not mistaken, you need 2-3 copies for the Uni itself and another 2 -3 copies for PTPTN manual application. You'll also need some Passport sized photos, this you should prepare more than 5.This post has been edited by lwsn: Jun 21 2008, 11:54 AM |

QUOTE(Demonic Wrath @ Jun 22 2008, 10:44 PM) If I wish to pay the university fee through CIMB bank, do I need to show them the offer letter? Yes, you need to show them the offer letter. How long does it take to open CIMB bank account? Will they need a couple of days to process the application? How far is the residential college to Kingfisher? It will only take a while, I mean less than 1 hour if there isn't any long queue. Don't worry, you can finish applying it in a day. About the distance between residential college to Kingfisher is definitely not walking distance. Probably 10 minutes bus ride from Residential college to get there. Btw, it's hard to get bus within UMS to go to Kingfisher. Plus, during the orientation week or before the actual school date starts, the UMS Kingfisher bus will not be operating. |

QUOTE(HolyJudgement @ Jun 24 2008, 12:12 AM) btw, will they be taking our original cert lik birth cert/spm/stpm cert during registration or they just wanna c? they won't keep it but they do wanna have a look a it to make sure that your copies are genuine.Grab hold of the original ones as some of my friends lost their IC or the certs during the MSM. Perhaps they accidentally drop or left em somewhere. You'll never know ... This post has been edited by lwsn: Jun 24 2008, 12:23 AM |

QUOTE(Zack Styler @ Jun 24 2008, 11:44 AM) Sure is random, depends on your luck, either you will be staying in Kampung, Kingfisher (KF) or Indah Permai (IP) though.. I agree with Zack. However, staying in kampung also benefits you all because transport is one of the main problems we all face in uni. If you don't have a vehicle, it's hard for you to go to lecture halls; you might be late or you might just miss the lecture as well. At least there are university buses ready for every hostel. If transportation and financial constraints are not your problems then stay off-campus for more freedom compare to staying in campus. If you stay in Kampung, there will be more restrictions as you must be in the UNI before 11pm, or your name will be noted down, random spot checks, less variety of food, cafeteria not open during Raya, can't hold hands in UNI for couples (BUT those China students do it anyway, you can do it if you dare), must wear properly, no spagetti strap or super short skirts/shorts. If you stay the hostel outside UMS, either KF/IP, you are quite free, can go for mamak stall to have a drink at night, etc etc.. Total freedom I would say.. BUT BOYS/GIRLS, please be careful, take good care of yourself, and also your belongings, as there are a few RAPES and ROBBING/BREAK IN cases happened before...Even in Kampung One more thing is that, there are variety of facilities available in various hostels. Take Hostel E for example. They have washing machine, dryer, cyber cafe and quite a big dining hall for you to have your meals and as a good place to meet up with your coursemates for group discussion or assignments. |

QUOTE(cruel_boy @ Jun 26 2008, 07:27 PM) people learn from experience... let da juniors decide first after they experience it. dun poison them la kawan2... I second that and seriously... for those who can afford, rm150/month is not much.... but in calculation... staying inside is rm90/month.... you call that around the same price but ya la... better facilities if rent own house. but first must have own transport... kf bus.. for me not much problem... im staying at IP... |

No worries, points not taken. However, do allow me to express my thoughts on what I've learnt in UMS so far. Indeed, there are quite a number of students among us who scored unpleasant MUET results but some of them had improved a lot ever since the semester started.
Meaning, people do change to improve themselves. Even if your coursemates did badly in their exams, you have to make sure that you don't because at the end of the day, you are on your own. Having a Band 5 in MUET doesn't guarantee you a 3 pointer above in the uni exams. In fact, some of my friends who scored 3.7 in STPM, scored lower than 2.7 during previous semesters in UMS. The TESL lecturers are at their best in supporting and helping us only if we ask, but many didn't (shy perhaps). Anyway, why so serious?!?! Come join us la!
