Family used to own this car. Should be cheap by now, getting from car dealer u can get cheaper. Spend a few more k to replace those wear and tear parts, if you got enough cash, plunk in a 4AGE engine inside. I have seen a few first hand owners still keeping this model in tip-top condition until today. I will still get for this car if i have the cash. Kinda like the front seats, very comfortable. I would say this car can be consider one of those Toyota over-engineered car. It doesn't get the "mini-lexus" name for nothing. If you worry so much about the fuel consumption, get this car and install NGV then.

SEG using 4A-FE engine, fuel economy in mind. 4AGE slightly more hp, 4AGZE is supercharger version.

4AFE using slave cam, or 'semi-DOHC'; narrower timing; both for fuel efficiency.

AE101, avg should be around 18k~19k. Unless you are sold with brand new tires, new timing belt, new engine oil, new brake pads & such, then 21k should be fine.

Right after AE101, AE11x was Toyota starting time for cost cutting strategy.

this car been in my family since 1993 and still going strong... whole car repaint two yrs ago due to old age but the body still solid

Me too used to own this car and it is a reliable car. Economical wise well still acceptable at average 11-12km/l FC for the manual, but u might expect to spend a little more due to wear n tear n possible higher FC due to its age.

But regardless of what, this is one heck of a good car, even better if there a 4AGE 20v blacktop engine installed. tongue.gif

RM17-RM20K would be reasonable. very reliable car, given that you get a used unit which the previous owner really took good care of it. nick-named 'Mini Lexus' during its days. was one of best cars Toyota ever produce. original engine would be 4A-FE. spend 3K-4K to get a 4A-GE & there u got some extra HP. i'm driving the 1.3 version of it. 16 years old & still going strong. just the paintwork kinda faded. but no rust or whatsoever. blush.gif

i would like to have one car for my university lilfe, which is a need as the course i am studying need me to go out to buy materials for projects and so on ... . my 2nd year when uni reopen next month .

well , at first i was eyeing on Satria Neo CPS , my dad already give green light for me to wait for the CPS version. but when the fuel price increased to RM2.70 , i just have to change my mind . i used to drive waja during my form 5-form6 life and alor star driving range is about like what i am facing in Johor UTM . so i take the average RM50 i pump every week during my school days , which the price was RM1.6x-1.92 by that time , one month would cost me about RM200 . If i were to take a CPS , and the price would go up or stay at RM2.70 range . that would possibly mean the monthly fuel i will be using could go up to RM400 , which is absolutely insane as i still need to eat and drink .

i choose a 2 doors car as i dont want to fetch friends along or in other word i want my car to be a personal car not a taxi .however , when the fuel price increase , i changed my mind , well first is a 2 doors car cant fetch much people , and i am in university , fetching friends is definitely something which is unavoidable .

being a car in university , as fetching friends is unavoidable . for sure the fuel price to go outside will be shared within friends , so might as well take a 4 doors . In the other hand , if it would be a semi-taxi-student car , why bother taking a new car like proton saga as it would always be packed by friends .

NGV future , i like 2 doors car . but if i were to take satria neo, there is absolutely no place to place a NGV tank behind the car. If Neo has a coupe version i am sure it will sell well . i dont like fetching people . to me car is personal , same as a mobile phone which is something we just have to live with . it has to be a 1.6 car to me , i dont like 1.3.

Well why dont u consider the gen2 CPS? On regards of fuel price will always go up due to current world oil pricing, so there nothing much we can do. At least the gen2 cps is larger than the neo although ur rear passengers wont be happy on the gen2 due to its cramped place.

my house has a gen2 already . so dont want another gen2 .
gen2 cps is more expensive than satria neo , i like neo is becasue of the look and also i downa to fetch ppl like taxi driver .

well , it is a uni-drive , not a city-car . so i dont think i have to go for a so good car . Friends will be sitting on the same car ,new or 2nd hand , they wont be paying for the car . of course , if i were my friend i would be happy to sit in new car . if i were to pay the car , probably i will think twice. get what i mean . it is a university-transport to replace the crappy BUS shuttle in UTM.

it is more of short distance drive like uni-to-city . i reckon that doesnt really recommend me to go for a new car as it is double the price of the 2nd hand .

AE101 5Speed Manual 4AFE can consider an ultra reliable bullet proof car. Hardly have any trouble and show stopper apart from aged wear and tear.

If you wanted to get one, get a cheaper then send for engine and gearbox rebuild no matter its 4AFE or 4AGE or 3SGE or what ever engine is in there. After doing a full rebuild which isn't cost much for a 4AFE if you already getting the car at low price then it will be able to service you probably for another 5-10years depending on driving style and maintenance habit.

Even you thinking to transplant better rebuild the internal before transplant coz most of them already aged more than or about 10 years.

just own this car for 1-2 months. bought 20k.
condition is good enough. still using 4AFE engine (manual).
clocked 360 000 KM already.. huhuhu

fuel consumption around 12km/litre (city n highway)

need to change clutch, absorber, timing belt, brake shoes.

so i'm planning to swap with silvertop or blacktop. still considering between these both engine.
any opinion?

silver top is Originally for AE101 which is ur model but black top is originally for AE111... so it is up to u... but most ppl will go for black top coz it is a lil more powerful... smile.gif
check for chopshop find a good engine better than wasting $$$ to just swap only... find the engine then prepare to swap... if u base of ppl to help u to find it is a lil more expensive... a blacktop will cost around 4k (not sure about current market rate)...

thanx 4 the advices.
need a bit info..

if i swap for silvertop into AE101, izzit plug n play?
how about blacktop AE111 into AE101? any adjustment?

lastly, izzit other parts (alternator, compresspr, drive shaft & bla2...) can interchange between 4AFE and 4AGE 20V?

you can PM me to share ur experience using 4AGE 20V..
sharing 'common' problem for 4AGE 20V..
really need info about it.

thanx mate

This is a good car. Quality back then is what make the old Toyota famous....not like the VIOS today. If can get one in good condition, go for it.

I drove both cars and it will depend on the tyres. Of coz the wobbling feel will get worse if u stick with the stock 14 inch rims from Vios E n J models. Yet again, chassis wise, the Corolla SEG is much convincing to speed above 140 kmh.

comparing stock to stock (or even modified) the SEG wins hands down in every category except for FC. stock SEG chassis can easily corner 90 degree turn at 100 kmph (yup, done that) because originally it's tuned to handle high rev high powered engine. 100kmph in the same corner with the vios has a high chance of under steering right off or even worst

i am here to seek advise from forum members here who have driven or experience about this car before .
how reliable is this car , is the FC good ? i know it is old but i do have interest to know bits about this car .

what is the second hand car value of this car , around 1993-1994 age .
*
Reliable yes...but engine may experience overheating
fc is good...didnt really count last time... should be about 9-11km a liter

own one last time...sold at 15k in 2012

never had that problem before, since most of the time, it's my wife's LE that's doing this, lol

those new cars are useless, especially newer civics, so slow............

I'm gonna disagree on this also.

Have driven both stock 1st gen (E spec) and a couple of 2nd gen 'dugong' (G spec) on highway but still compared to my stock 00' 1.3 Corolla and ex-97' 1.6 SEG, I'm still convinced that Corolla's chassis is more planted. Vios rear end tends to kick-out when u get too excited in d corners too no thanks to d torsion beam.

D only reason Vios would probably feel more powerful is d pickup 'feel' (probably power to weight, power band n gear ratios), but it gets out of tune above 80km/h. One possible main reason Vios is more common on d racing arena is coz its new. Dun forget tat d older d car gets d less upgrade aftermarket parts becomes unless its really a worth making, eg. Hondas EGs & EKs.

still driving one...

heavy and good handling.

to me, maintenance is considered high.. cant find good technician around me and spare part no longer available (except potong one). thinking of giving up on it now.

You serious? Some mechanics are even looking for this car. What kind of spare parts that is hard for you to find? hmm.gif

Btw necro thread!

maintenance considered high?

i disagree. I own both this car and first model Iswara. The corolla parts(compare OEM vs OEM) are just a little bit expansive..but not by much

stock/new taiwan spareparts are also quite easy to get(esp on Toyota sparepart genuine dealer). Maybe the price in ur place are quite high due to unavailability
of the said parts

used to drive this car. my ex owns it before selling it off to someone.

whole car stock with silvertop. easily touch 180. solid chassis good power good aircond. well maintained. just need adjustable and better tyres (on her car)

i once skidded during a rain at the corner. manage to control it to skid out of the highway into a junction, hitting the soft red thing before the metal highway divider. burst 2 tires.

i still love this car, one of the first few cars i've driven.
