Hi guys. Need some advice here, as I really don't know what I'm doing.

I want to upgrade my HU and speakers, so I went to Brother's yesterday. Managed to select the HU - Kenwood KDC-MP5039U (recommended by the dealer there).

Just want to know whether this is a good HU? I'm looking for something medium range due to budget constraints. The HU sells for around RM500.

This leaves me with RM500 to upgrade my back and front speakers. I have problems selecting the suitable speakers - that's where I hope you guys could help me out.

I'm not sure of the size of the speakers. I drive a Kelisa.

Hope to get some help from you guys on setting up my ICE. Would appreciate all comments regarding the HU and speakers (and also the wiring for speakers, whether it's necessary to change etc etc).

Trying to work within the budget of RM1,000.

Thanks very much smile.gif

1 branded entry level Head Unit, 1no. 4 channel amp, front component speaker with passive X-Over & 10" sub box cost should not be more than $1,200; your Kelisa should have some decent ICE sound which will keep you happy.

Hi, thanks for the reply MobyDick.

By entry level, do you mean I should get something cheaper?

I believe the HU I'm targetting is medium range. Should I cut down on the cost of the HU to install better quality speakers / amps?

By the way, any suggestions (models etc.) for the amp and speakers? Would like to do some research smile.gif

HU can either keep or choose from there. 500
Front component speakers got a lot of choices. For ur budget i think can go for Boschmann. 200
Amp JBL 60.4 650
sub JBL cs10 250
1600 total and still can talk to him to nego that price. Should be a lot lower. Good Luck.

What do you mean by active setup?

By the way, bafukie, is it possible to get Pioneer HU with USB for RM300?

So cheap?

With your tight budget it's better you go to a 'ICE-Installer' rather than buying the hardware yourself & installing it somewhere else, matching it all to give you the optimum sound is critical here, if not hardware seller will say installer do not know how to setup & installer will say your hardware do not match, that's why your sound 'F*#*-up' story after all the $$ spend. You also need to ask yourself 1 last question, is this gonna be quite a permanent set or will there be further upgrades.

Sorry. Did not realise that I did not specify what kind of HU I wanted.

I'm looking for something which has MP3 and also Frontal USB.

This is not really a permanent set up. My RM1k budget is for HU, front and back speakers only. I might add an amp when the money becomes available in future (depending on whether I am satisfied with the sound without an amp).

Could someone please explain to me, coz the dealer at Brother's was saying something about the HU coming with 2 pre-outs. What's that? What kind of set up should I have if I plan to put an Amp in future? I do not plan to put sub. Not really hardcore when it comes to bass.

Thanks smile.gif

Wah difficult to understand.

Hahaha...

So 2 pre-outs would be enough for me if I intend to install an amp in future?

Ahh, alright.

Thanks so much for the help guys.

Will try to drive to howie's this weekend to install. Very excited.

How long does installation take? 2-3 days?

i think 1 day if howie's schedule is not full. smile.gif Fastest is half a day, bring there morning collect at evening. Wait, if HU & speakers should be within 2 hours as there's no extensive wiring needed.

howie's setup shudnt take long time since your are entry level ICE setup with minimal tuning required.

but my experience of installing (not howie) took around 2hrs for component set + amp to my stock HU which is ok coz satria neo door panel and HU is a hassle to disassemble.
