currently i plan to buy a wireless router for gaming and both torrenting.. but i don't know which 1 to choose between these 2 router. WRT54GL seems better because i seems have more ram than wrt54g and more expensive as well. but i don't know how the real performance does. Currently wrt54g version 7 or 8 i don't know which version is available in lowyat and wrt54gl is available for version 1.1. i don,'t think i will flash it with third party firmware. all i need is a good performance wireless router. so i need some adviceses here.... or does anyone have better suggestion than these 2 router which is most likely below RM200 also welcome. thank you. notworthy.gif

correct me if i mention anything wrong also.. notworthy.gif

Since you are into Torrenting and Online gaming and you want to get this router , you'll have to Use a 3rd party firmware to get the optimal performance for both. Now I am fully enjoying my streamyx + this modem. The QoS is superb. I can play games such as Jedi Knights II and torrent at the same time (~20-30 Kilobytes/sec) and my latency for JK II is around ~130ms to 200 ms (if i turn torrent off i'll be getting around 110ms to 180ms). Without the 3rd party frimware the router , nevertheless is a joke. You'll have to use a 3rd party firmware for it. The Linksys WRT54G v7/v8 doesn't do that well. If you want to invest on a good router then go for WRT54GL. I think there is a Buffalo router which is cheaper and allows you to flash into 3rd party firmware. So my advice is grab WRT54GL and flash it to DD-WRT/Tomato and you'll be enjoying torrenting and online gaming tongue.gif

Oo, will flashing 3rd party firmware void the warranty?

okie.. but i think have decided... WRT54GL!!
but i won't flash it so soon i'll observe see weather the factory firmware is capable to handle the traffic in my house or not.. if can then i won't flash it because that won't be my router i just helping my friend decide which 1 better since he share more $$ to buy. so ur opinion will be dd-wrt will be more appropriate choice for beginner?

if your budget thight then get wrt54g else GL version. Since you've mention why not u try first on the default firmware instead of using the 3rd party. if you've no problem with the current firmware then stay with it. gd luck.

Yes , the stock firmware isn't that great when it comes to P2P. You'lll see the difference. Heck , I've seen people who said to me "oMG , this is going to screw up my router". The next minute they are saying "Thanks man, it really made my router powerful".

LOL you make me want to flash it...><haha whistling.gif
