greetings iphone users, does anyone have a good place to get an iphone fixed? Or any alternatives? I have a rather peculiar issue where the volume buttons appear to be jammed and is causing erratic behaviour. Symptoms include :-

-Unable to lower/increase volume
-Opening received smss will cause the volume icon to appear and not go away until its locked
-Phone will ring only once then become silent(still ringing)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I dont think the phone is that fragile, but you'll probably hear more requests on where to get it fix because it's a tough question. Things like grey import nokia/motorola/samsungs are a lot more straight forward.

i doubt they will replace your wifi chip as wifi chip already soldered to the main board of iphone, they cant simply solder out and put another wifi chip, if they tell u need to change the board it might be true...but if they tell you they change the wifi chip , they are lieing ...most probrably they just erase all your baseband and update the latest one.

so dont be cheated by them...i hate those shop who like to cheat people...simply do baseband erase need RM700? doh.gif rclxub.gif shocking.gif

you're not advised to dismantle youself because there's a lot of parts u need to take out from the original iphone and stick correctly to the black housing...it's not like take out the housing and replace another so easy....

find someone who's more professional. smile.gif

the wifi receiver is located above the network receiver (enclosed by the black case)

Added on June 20, 2008, 5:31 pmhence if you wanna replace the wifi receiver, you have to essentially replace the entire thing (wifi + network receivers)

Agree. I also hate those people who charge exorbitant rate/fees for such an easy task like unlocking and all. They got it free from the internet and dare to charge so expensive.

@JasLyn
The black housing only have the housing (obviously) without the other fittings. I forgot the site that show a guy replace the cover to the black ones and its hell of a process. There's few small parts that have to use industrial glue remover and those part are SMALL and BRITTLE. Dismantling the cover is a tough job but it can be DIY. I already replace mine (damaged while doing the failed H/W unlock) and nokia2003.

Someone in the forum already done that. The hard part would be ... like i said .. opening the back cover. There's 10 screws holding the chrome bezel.

Check this guide to know more on how to change it. Word of caution, its not as easy as it looks in the guide on how to remove the back cover. Nokia2003 can confirm that.

also sometime, when my iphone could not detect my wifi mac address (grey wifi) then its getting frustrating, cos whenever i left my phone in sleep mode, incoming calls i wont get any alert.

when i was in 1.1.2 i use Ziphone upgraded to 1.1.4 after a month or so, i started to have this issue, and i restore my phone with iLiberty+ ... because i hard Ziphone will corrupt iphone baseband.

the reason i have grey wifi issue is because the phone could not detect my wifi MAC address, i have restart my phone several times, in order to detect my wifi mac address.

although with or wihtout mac address, i still couldnt access into my wifi, but as long as my iphone detect the wifi mac address, i dont have the "sleep mode, no ringer/vibrate respon" issue.

Yup2... dealing with small parts always hard... but guess what, friends got bricked iphone and yeah, i have a subject to be studied already without worries smile.gif BTW, the hardest so far for me is the O2 XDA Flame... too many loose fall item and tricky short wiring... i bet this iphone also wont give up that easy for post-moterm...

I think you problem can be solve with the dev team swifi fix for greyed wifi. Do read more about it at iphone-dev.org before doing anything or else u'll end up with more that just a greyed wifi. Its not a hardware problem.

@JasLyn
Bricked phones? Sure can't recover? Got a working commboard to help a
fellow iphone owner?
I've already experiment with my phones. Got the back cover if u want to study the structure.
