Re double degrees - Aus/NZ LLBs have more non-law electives than UK LLBs. For most people, the logic is - since you'll be doing extra non-law papers anyway, why not put them towards another degree?

I believe some Aus unis make double degrees compulsory.

If you do intend to combine an LLB with something, do a business "like" qualification. In the legal world, you need a fair amount of knowledge on marketing, management and such (esp if you intend to have your own firm). That's why I strongly believe, the best Masters to supplement an LLB is an MBA (or something of that sort).

In NZ, an LLB/BCom is very useful (esp in accounting, finance or economics) - many corporate law firms state that a business-related 2nd degree is an advantage. I understand it's the same in Australia.

But you don't necessarily have to limit yourself to a BCom.

Do note that a BSc is regarded highly if you wish to pursue a career in as a patents attorney/intellectual property. The technical/scientific know-how is an asset.

I'm speaking from an NZ/Aus point of view though.

Anyone know the different between International Law and International Human Right Law? Which one is more useful?

I have no exact idea about its scope....
can anyone tell me the different?
Thanks

International law, like domestic law, is divided into many areas. The 2 main divisions are public international law (the relationships between states) and private international law (jurisdictional issues when individuals/companies across borders come into conflict). Most university "international law" courses refers to public international law.

As a subject, international law is broader than international human rights law. International law encompasses international criminal law, international human rights law, the law of the sea, international environmental law, international humanitarian law etc. You'll learn about the basic principles - treaty law, customary international law, state sovereignty - and a bit about the various areas of international law

You'll cover the same basic principles in international human rights law, but with a more specific focus.

As for which is more useful - probably neither. Jobs where you'll use public international law are few and far in between - mainly in government departments, international agencies, law faculties, and some large law firms. Private international law (or conflict of laws) is probably more common in legal practice.

I can't find anything on Australian Bar in this thread. And also the Hong Kong Bar, is it equivalent to CLP ? i'm trying very hard to look into other alternatives to avoid taking the CLP.

Would anyone be kind enough to explain about the Australian bar, and if possible the hong kong bar as well.

im more interested in the australian bar though, like when are the intakes, duration of course and acceptance of australian bar holder in malaysia.

Even if you're admitted to the Australian Bar (in any state), you'll have to do CLP if you want to practice in (West) Malaysia.

Hi there, got my relative who works as an education agent to contact and they confirm that American High school diploma and IB diploma are both equivalent to SPM and STPM respectively.. Thanks a lot to those who helped!

Just because other institutions etc accept them as equivalent does not necessarily mean the LPQB does as well. Better get it directly from the horse's mouth. You don't want to risk putting in all the effort and sacrifice into getting an LLB, only to find the LPQB doesn't recognise SPM/STPM equivalents.
