im having a little problem wif my e7300.. sometimes it halt when loading windows.. have to restart many times.. and when log in my ram timing suddenly revert back to 800mhz. my ram suppose to run 1066mhz

my spec, e7300,giga ep43-ud3l,Kingston hyperx 1066mhz 5-5-5-18, 450w CM not true power, Zotac 9600gt,160gb hdd,5x12cm fans

my setting, stock vcore, 2.66x10,2.1core for ram.. cpu:ram ratio 1:2

my story begins here, i try to push my proc to 3.2..eventually it failed me sometimes so i revert back to 2.66x10 ( i think dats the ori speed for 7300?)
ram, another problem for me. this ram when i bought suppose to be 5-5-515 timing ori. and only runs 800mhz by default.. as i check their oficial website for setting, i adjust it the same like they recon, 5-5-5-18 , 2.1vdimm..so i could get 1066mhz
agter all this setting i still 'smetimes' get halt when booting and my bios said error due to voltage/settings.. which part i done wrong or maybe some hardwares actually bottleneck my whole rig? psu not enuff juice? or my ram is screwing me around?

anyine could enlighten me?

QUOTE(JoBigShow @ Dec 28 2009, 02:41 AM)
Let's see break it down briefly:
OC'ing the proc to 3.2ghz is considered a moderate OC'ing for the E7300, that wouldn't do significant damage, the failure to P.O.S.T due to not enough Vcore to the E7300, commonly.. so that rules it out atm...
The Ram, its hard to tell bcoz I believe in this situation, the problem might not be the RAM, but the whole system configuration and the most apparent culprit atm is an un-updated BIOS, because I believe it "thinks" that a 4:5 divider is more stable than a 1:2.

The only way to narrow it down is if you could borrow another ram (800mhz) to see if the prob occurs, IF the 'halt' still occurs, then you at least have an idea where the problem comes from...the BIOS..
After you update the BIOS, there's still one more step, to see if the system stable after updating.
IF the 'halt' still occurs, then its the mobo, thats the only deduction that can be drawn from this troubleshoot...roughly.

Another thing not to be overlooked: The PSU.
Sometimes its just the PSU who's causing the menace, but it always slip people's minds because the PSU always comes across as the 'unusual suspect' from the distraction of toubleshooting the other things.(mobo,bios, ram, etc.)So if you can get your hands on another PSU atm, you should give it a try to narrow down the problem.
For testing, a fresh cap ayam PSU can be used, but just temporarily for testing only. happy.gif

OK bro, thats most of the troubleshoots you can DIY for now.

I hope you can do most of the suggested troubleshooting, which is enough to figure out the main villain, or villains.
It's worth it  to do all things boring and tedious procedures, because it will get you closer to finding out what's up  nod.gif
@farscope,
I'm still thinking what's going on with your situation atm, I wont say anything yet until I'm sure with the comments prior to you post.  hmm.gif

Sometimes with a 1066mhz ram, with default settings usually it sets the ram to 800mhz, so need to manually set the ram clockspeed to 1066mhz...

It's just the bios...probably needs flashing...but can't tell yet...

bro,glad for ya reply.. =) i pray the culprit its not my ram sweat.gif this rig is almost 98% new just the PSU is old only.. anyway im planning to get a new true power psu, well for future upgrade i dont ned to bother anymore..

bios eh, hmm have to check for updates.. rclxub.gif

anyway thanks again! rclxms.gif

2 quick questions here.. (just flash in my mind suddenly)

1.Does Vcore had any different by using a Normal PSU compare to True Power PSU? i mean shud it be more stable on good true power PSU?

2. Do u think its reconmended to up VTT Core to get higher FSB? for instance 1.5v..

3. For my giga board there's an option to choose Turbo for Ram setting in Bios.. Should i switch it on or just leave it aside first?

Btw, Im hunting a decent PSU now.. probably WC setup by next year.. =)
PCP&C in my mind now..

yesterday manage to push mu e7300 till 3,0ghz.. havent change my psu yet but here is the settings.

vcore=1.265v
multi=10 x 300
ram= hyperx 1066 running at 900mhz now> 5-5-5-15
vdimm=2.1v
FSB:DRAM= 2.3

idle temp=38c
load=forgot to see.. =p

giga board is so confusing when setting the multi for Rams.. im confused coz its categorize based on the fsb u set.
4 option available.= A.266,B.333,C.200,D.400.. i choose the A option, dunno whether am i right or not.. but hey it BOOTS!

stress test 3 hour no problem.. any tips?

i tried it already.. but im stuck at VISTA loading bar there.. not error just the loading bar.. like forever couldnt boot in the password page so i restarted it..

btw, cm460 extreme psu only im using.. getting a true power later.. i wanna abuse this psu first.. =p

333 i think its ok at least i know it pass the POST..

1 stupid question.. does the power affected by using a single extension? i mean all my plugs,spekers, other peripherals using 1 single extension.. sometimes scared it will blow.. lol.. sommore my pc 24/7 on...

im stubborn =p.. havent changed my psu yet.. but hands are itchy when i see my rig.. so i tweak a lil bit more..

333x10
vcore= havent decide yet as i put to auto. checked my cpuz my vcore is around 1.23
FSB:DRAM= 5:6
Ram= multi 2.40 roughly 800mhz.

at first it wont boot. but i try to add 0.1v to CPU TERMINATION. and it boots!

Stress for 3-4 hours.. no error (yet,hopefully)

gotta stop my itching hand and buy a good psu.. arrghh.. =p

Added on January 15, 2010, 12:31 pmJoBigShow - anyway i havent flash my bios first.. as im hesitate whether to do it or not.. maybe i'll flash when im ready.. =)

im poison too =.=.. btw im using hyperx oso.. just dat mine is 4gb and 1066mhz..

i felt like a waste actually to purchase 1066mhz.. bcoz if wan to get 1:1 timing i need to get my fsb up to 500 at least.. and my board max is 400 fsb only =.= sighs..

I c, I never owned a Gigabybte board.. I only know much of the Asus mobos.
I lik Asus bios settings(specifically 'Ai Tweaker'), it's very nice to OC, especially to do with this PL thingy.

The PL thing you need some time of research hours, dunno what it's called in Giga boards, but for now should un~leash the potential of that HyperX 1066mhz.

Now that you mastered CPU overclocking, you should move to RAM OC'ing.
In RAM OC'ing, either tighten the ram timing or increase the clock speed while tweaking the voltage(vDimm) for stability.
(I dunno if the HyperX can do both tight timing and high clocks at the same time...at least stabilization is concerned.)
Then run prime95 or any proper memory stress test software to test the ram out.  biggrin.gif
After that, you need a memory benchmark test, e.g. 'Everest memory test & benchmark' to compare which configuration is best.

Sound complicated? Not really, just need time grasp the idea.
Even a guy like me who takes these thing as one of my many hobbies took less than 6 months to learn adequately to OC the PC.. tongue.gif
Your HyperX is crying to be OC'ed, even a little is good enough...  nod.gif

Btw, I like that Old Town Hazelnut Coffee  thumbup.gif  drool.gif
*
haha, probably still a long way for me.. i should do better in ocing my cpu first before turning into ram oc.. OC'ing still new to me.. wat i do is i read all lyn topics, and i just DIY myself.. icon_idea.gif watever those sifus post i just follow.. i will follow u! =p

basically i like to take action fast rather than posting and asking how to do step by step.. im a bit kind of rushing.. rclxub.gif that is y i bought C2D at the first time, when most of the ppl here poison me shakehead.gif

so i took the decision and straight went to low yat, go to the shops, grab this grab dat, go home, assemble myself, load vista, open lyn.net, copy watever post here, restart my pc- go bios- OC! shakehead.gif all done in 1 day for a person without any knowledge on OC and an AMD user all the freaking time!

normally i order Cham or Kopi O.. and course a pack of cig.. sit there for 2-3 hours, typing this post. brows.gif

yo bro Jo, after so muc busy in work at last i can show some screenies here.. but still havig some funny problerm.

- some times i restart pc the OC value lost. back to 2.66(bios prompt that i have oc so it not stable)
- last time i ave problem loading vista (if u could remember i pm u bout it beofre) but now i install win7 64bit enterprise, no problem wit booting in.. same setting oso
-when priming i notice sometimes the first and second worker lags a bit.. example first already test8 second test9. but eventually it will catch up after a few rounds then begins to lag 1 spot again,, lol
- i bougt a new true psu d..
- all thhe problem above still happens even i can managa to prime for 10 hours =.=
- 375x10
ram900mz at 2.1vdimm
MCH i bump 1 lvl up..

Below are shots of idle and load.. pls guide me is anyting wrong wif it.. =)

erm.. any suggestion on the setting i should start wif?? maybe more specific?? hehe im dumb.. need to 'draw out intestine'.. lol

well i previously tried 3.0 then to 3.2 then 3.4 but all of them fail to prime!! blardy funny.. until when i try bump to 3.75 OCCT,prime more than 10hours okay wor!! y leh???

u mean 1:1 lets say an exmaple like 333fsb to 667 ram? hmm.. have to downclock my ram lor??

or could i set lower multi wif higher fsb?

idle 39 to 42.. load is 61-65

erm i tried to pump fsb but i receive lots of blue screen wor.. i try 400x8.5 and 400x9.5 and wont prime.. i even bump MCH and ICH.. my vcore i put 1.4 wont boot.

1 more question is which vcore should i refer to? from bios or cpuz.. coz cpuz shows most lesser than wat i set in bios.. is it save that way? the screen shot shows 1.36 when idle, 1.344 when priming and in bios i set is 1.38x.. im confuse.. i knows its vdroop but im not sure how it react..

Added on June 27, 2010, 11:29 amaiya i didnt post the Memory page on cpuz.. =.= wat was i dreaming.. but i confirm is 1:1 now.. and it prime 7 hours jor..

actually have to thank to u bro for enlighten me with the oc of my rig.. u taught me a lot too but i have to admit some part im still confused =p.. hehe

well i have that feeling i might have hit the fsb wall already.. bcoz no matter how i try to up vcore, lower multi, bump this bump that its still not going anywhere lor.. i might suspect my giga board is not really overclockable dat good. ep43-ud3l..

ok now wat i need to do is -
-check if my oc is stable before i disable LLC rite?
-if im happy wif 3.75 and everthing stable i have to tighten my PL and RAMs clock. hmm its tough but i will try goggling around for more info on those.. clocks are those 5-5-5-15 rite?

so bor Jo, do u think my 3.75ghz on 1.38vcore is good enuff based on my temps? is there any way i could improve it? say like lowering vcore and try it.. appreciate ur time to reply my post. thanks man,.

Clocks are the mhz, 5-5-5-15 is timing.

One of the criteria of a good OC'ing result are those with the lowest stable Vcore possible for 24/7 usage -  so to get the Vcore lower than 1.38v is benefiting the longevity of the proc.

Since you have a Giga board, the PL (which usually the term use on Asus boards) are in this case, tRD.

First, find the default value of your board's tRD (meaning change the setting from AUTO to manual) then lower it in increments while testing for stability with prime95 and performance with Everest ->' Cache and Memory Benchmark' (it's a freeware software, just download it)
Since this is no longer a proc OC'ing, you should ask other sifus on other related thread... nod.gif
*
nice explanation. thx man.. i will try those steps above but before that i will try to tune a bit on my proc OC first.. hope i get nice stability on my proc.. nod.gif

QUOTE(JoBigShow @ Jun 28 2010, 02:22 PM)
Yup, try to find the 'lowest stable Vcore' for your proc.
Anything above Intel's maximum recommendation of 1.3625v is taking it's toll on the 45nm procs..

Btw, your P43 chipset mobo is good for OC'ing, those Asus Maximus Formula's, Rampage, Bigbands, etc. are just rich man's toys, any P45 or at least P43 chipset mobo can OC decently, just that the P45's are known to edge the P43 a bit..
But that's not something to be that concern about, for OC'ing stability, it's the hardware itself, mostly the mobo....for instance the 'power phase design' (those dark box like capacitors that surrounds the 775 socket) are more important for reliability of 24/7 duty and will endure longer OC abuse...

Having said, no need to upgrade to P45 for the sake of this, you better off using your current giga board till it breaks down in years and allocate the budget for the upgrade of socket 1156 (i3, i5, i7 860) in the future...  biggrin.gif

EDIT:
Just read back the pages and realize you have a 4G HyperX DDR2 1066mhz RAM, right?

Keep the clocks(mhz) stock or OC the clocks over 1066mhz, if you can get your RAM to OC near 1200 (if your mobo supports up to that frequency) your enhance the overall system performance!
That HyperX is meant to be OC  laugh.gif

That '1:1 ratio' is just a primary goal for any one who tries to OC their proc, there's a whole new world of OC'ing if you past that '1:1 ratio' point...overall system performance plays a bigger role get your PC at peak performance.
Do download Everest to see the performance increase when tighening up the tRD or OC'ing the RAMs... nod.gif
*
haha.. ya its true.. i purposely bought this rig to learn and practice my OC;'ing skills before i get something meaner in future.. thumbup.gif haha probably i think so much blaming the mobo bcoz OC'ing is bout trial and error.. sometimes my mind go blunt thinking wat went wrong.. but hey, the more trouble i get into, the more i learn..

yeah i remember u use hyperx too.. i will try to get my ram fly.. rclxms.gif

done wif 3.75mhz at the moment. Ram s cant manage to pull 1200mhz =(..
My Gaygabyte mobo doesnt have LLC option =.=
Some how its a great exp for newbie like me.

So, basically im gonna reset everything to default and pull out another OC from the beggining step by step. Previously was done not in a proper way, so im not so satisfied.. =p

Some screenie on my first shot..
3080mhz on stock Vcore.
idle temp forgot to record but load is 49-51
everything was on default - rams/mch core/PLL
stress small FFT on CPU only.coz wanted to concentrate on CPU OC before moving on to RAMS.
