gg isnt that costly.
its just very time consuming in that he will take at least 2 months to do it cos hes got other stuff also.

The hard part is to remove the existing layer of paint... Modern guitars have a thick layer of polymer clear coat that is very hard to remove.. So I think DIY is quite hard..

Polycoats = Sand the baby down, maybe even need chiseling =p

Nitrocoats = just wipe off with acetone xD

Normally pros use to fire-blow down (forgot the correct term...) the the poly coat...
It'll leave some burn marks on your wood, but it can be sanded off...

Donald: that's the whole point of DIY, start off with a crappy body first... You can try ordering a basic basswood body + neck from warmoth or usa custom guitar, get the cheapest one... Then try it yourself...

Or if you want cheaper stuff to work on, browse through classifieds and get a beat up strat...

EVH went to Fender's (or...???) factory back in the days and went to pick out their rejected bodies as his own...

the thing with warmoth...
if ur going to build a guitar that looks like whats available...better just go get whats available and mod it abit...
like the SG warmoth...its much better to get a epi G-400...else u will just make a way over-priced epi G-310 lookalike that doesnt play as good...

likewise with the strat shape...better go get a MIM fender...
same with the other shapes like LP etc.

unless of cos u wanna make like some 4 humbucker monster in pink sunburst with 3 heads...
