Hello, now u can buy in lots of 100 shares lar doh.gif

And yielding 5%, now bad wat? unsure.gif
*
ya i know, but buying 100 shares, probably i'll lose more in terms of brokerage fee la... must gain a lot from capital appreciate to cover the minimum brokerage fee... dividend yield aside, I don't really see point of buying 100 shares, except for those really humongous ones like bat, nestle, dutch lady and etc.

Brokerage is ALSO RELATIVE lar

u buy XX lot of 100 shares for RM10,000, brokerage RMX
u buy X lot of of 1,000 shares for RM10,000, brokerage ALSO RMX

No difference okay... sweat.gif

That's what I was trying to say...see VALUE, not no. of shares/lots...
*
I think I’m not clear enough on what I’m trying to say.

Let’s say you set to sell after certain % appreciation.

You buy,

A share - RM0.10 x 100 shares = RM10
- Brokerage fee at least RM8, stamp duty RM1, clearing fee negligible.
- So total about RM19 spent for 100 A shares.

Say, you sell the share at RM0.20 (100% capital appreciation).
Brokerage fee at least RM8, stamp duty RM1, clearing fee negligible.

So you get back = RM11 for the sell. Paid RM19, get back RM11 = still at loss of 8 bucks.

Make no sense to buy 100 shares here isn’t it? It would be different if you are buying 100 BAT shares. Brokerage fee applicable to this 100 Bat shares for me is 0.42%, and it would make difference already.

I get what you mean, and I know this is too extreme, but this is what I’m trying to say only.

Let us end the argument here by:

Big price shares = u buy 100 share lot also worthwhile
Small price shares = u buy 100 share lot not worthwhile

Ok? wink.gif

Back to the original question:

Maybank share is RM10
U buy 3 lots of 100 shares already RM3,000
Assuming min. brokerage of 0.42% like in ur case, it's already RM12.60, above min. of RM8 already, so it's worthwhile. Why need to stretch until 1,000 shares lot size?
*
Sorry, I just double checked, my rate is either 8 or 0.01%, my bad. So its still not so worthwhile for me.

And on top of that, if you sell at small capital appreciation, 100 shares won't give you much of profits. That's what I'm trying to emphasise. No feel. But I know percentage wise, is the same isn't it.

when you say long-term, how long is your definition?

from the technical analyst's point of view, maybank seem to be on downtrend. what do you reckon?

Long-term means not selling as long as it continues to pay dividends and show decent earnings. icon_rolleyes.gif

But looking at the chart, it seems to be breaking out of the downtrend channel...let's see if it can sustain above the channel.

5-year chart looks healthy though...but I'm not good at TA lar wink.gif

ok, noted of your comments. and most importantly, as long as the fundamental is still right.

think should buy more hmm.gif

Maybe buy before ex-date? Hope that market "forget" that it went ex and THOUGHT that it went "cheap" and push it up when in actual fact it just went ex-divvy. rolleyes.gif

Just an idea, don't blast me if u lose money. tongue.gif

buy on ex-date means I wont be entitle to dividends already right? sad.gif
