please note this is not console war discussion its just a feedback from you ps3 owners humble opinion about the extra disc space on blu-ray which is not fully utilized which makes us feel cheated..

have you guys ever wondered that you are not getting whats worth of your money on ps3 titles.. due to a fact that they are the exact same game size of their other platform (X360) which only fits on DVD size..

i sometimes feel cheated by this multiplatform gaming crapz.. which caters towards the space of the DVD limitation..

imagine GTAIV, was only for ps3, im sure the dev. can add more stuff in that 25 GB blu-ray disc compare to a DVD disc ...

QUOTE(more GtAIV example)
PS3 GTA IV needs preinstall  3GB of files even tho its on blu-ray (25GB disc)
X360 GTA IV play the game right off the batt with out any installation what so ever and its on DVD disc (4.5GB)

sigh i hate how $ony is marketing their product.. really doesnt value our money...

however on the bright side... MGS4 will be the first game to fully use up blu-ray space..and i hope to be looking forward for games like this to use the full potential of the blu-ray disc..

so next time do think twice to buy games which are multiplatform ... does it give a run for your money ? or just a plain $ony scam to their customers...

discuss here please tongue.gif

(wears anti-flame suit)

P/S: trollers and x360 fanboi pls GTFO, we want healthy discussion in here..

what happens if FFXIII goes multiplatform... ?? i thinks the quality will be watered down to x360 limitation (DVD format ) which nerfs ps3 capabilites too right ?

Added on June 2, 2008, 12:47 pmthat of coz will be the saddest news in gaming history

i just wanna clarify that we are playing the exact same game with not extra content what so ever to fully utilized the blu-ray capabilities to make our money worth ...

they should like throw in the making of the game in to fill up the space to make us happy or something..

xbox has its advantage coz
- its msoft
- strong online community
- hey its msoft
- more titles to date...

i feel that ps3 becomes so inferior of this console war because $ony themselves doesn't wanna push their console machine to the max... sigh... so all in all ps3 is like owning a Lamborghini which you can only drive at 80 KMPH ....

actually asian region ps2 game also cost more than asian region xbox1 game.  so, xbox pricing in asian region has always been very competitive. with the region-lock in place, xbox pricing can even be more aggresive in emerging markets (e.g china)

dvd is not a problem, most games if need be, can be published on multi-disc. only certain type of games need to compressed to fit into 1 disc - e.g open-world-sandbox games like GTA.
*
its sad to know that even when GTAIV comes in blu-ray disc we still neeed to pre-install into ps3 hdd ... WtF? (so i assume the DVD gamesize gets uncompressed to the ps3 hdd) wasting my ps3 hdd space only

how about GTA IV on x360 ? no need to install right ? can play it right off the box

QUOTE(tripleB @ Jun 2 2008, 06:08 PM)
The PS3 is a very odd console in my opinion. I'm still on the fence whether I should get one. Back during the early days of the PS2, it was obvious that the PS2 is a more powerful console than the Dreamcast. While I'm still a big Dreamcast fan, I must admit that the PS2 ran rings around the Dreamcast. Part of it is because of the raw power of the PS2, but mostly it has to do with the DVD format.

DVD allowed the PS2 to have MPEG2 quality video and audio; some games even have DVD-style extra features to fill the disc. It really showed off what you can achieve with the extra space. As for PS3? I'm still not seeing any absolute use for all that extra space, besides high res textures. Some gamers might insist that the extra texture size does make games look prettier, but let's not kid ourselves; was it REALLY necessary? The PS3's initial promise was that ALL games will run on 1080p. What happened to that promise? It's having a hard time even trying to look like Xbox 360 games, let alone run 1080p (despite 360 games running "only" in 720p).

So, what am I trying to say? Optimisation of the system is what's required for games to perform best, not disk space. Even back during the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era, multiplatform games do not come in similar sizes. For example, Soul Calibur II might look similar across all three systems, but their sizes were not: the PS2 version was around 4+ gigabyte, Xbox version was 900+ megabyte (really), and the Gamecube version was around 1.5 gigabyte. This shows that with proper optimisation, you don't require much space to fill a disc.

Let's go back to the PS3. If Sony insisted that Blu-ray was a necessity for PS3 to happen, why are Xbox 360 games able to pull off similar graphics, and worse, even performs better on Xbox 360? Giving the excuse that the Cell processor is difficult to program for is no excuse. Gamers who want to play games with the best performance will wonder why they paid extra for less performance. In the end, Blu-ray had nothing to do with the quality of the games themselves, rather just a trojan horse to introduce Blu-ray into user's homes. You know it's true.

I may sound overly critical of the PS3, but it's only because I care. I own a PS1 and PS2 after all. But where PS1 and PS2 really trumped their competition with superior hardware and quality games, PS3 do not offer that. Yet. Perhaps MGS4 and FFXIII will change all that. Until then, I will stick to the Xbox 360 for my gaming fix.

trying not to be biased... im a ps3 owner and i second your thoughts on this issue.. why has not $ony issue proper dev. tools for dev to work on ps3 ... but im just hoping for the best that ps3 will be not the successor of our well known gamecube/dreamcast ( console to fail)

I smell console wars coming soon. Theres not much diff between this two consoles anyway. Zillions of comment had been compare against this two consoles and in the end no diff at all. Stop being fooled by fanboys criticizms and comparison. They weighed the same on equal sides if u try to compare both sides problems and awesomeness. In the end in terms of stability and convenience, still pc blows this two aside. Let's juz cast FF and other rpgs aside, pc still run the current games pretty well and u can online and play pirated also. No ROD, no blu ray failure. No overheating issues. Can watch porn, watch movie , watch anime , download other stuff and listen to mp3 while playin game too. Tonnes of Online game out there for u to grab instead of waiting for ps3 or xbox360 games to out.

so do console...

but console is solely for gaming and home entertainment ...

making a next-gen PC will cost u RM1350 ??? i dont thinkso .. so thats the con for the PC

how ever getting a PS3 for RM1350 ? no sweat

anyway im a avid PC user and a console gamer... but i prefer to stick to my roots since i was born with a micro genius in my hand. (those days it cost like a bom to buy 1 micro genius system)

like i noted before, Blu-ray is still not the standard format yet, that's why most dev's can't churned out every inch of it, with the exception of MGS4, which needs to be downgrade coz the game is too big for bluray. That's why devs still prefer the 360 or wii platform for their games.

then ps3 should had been manufactured with a DVD drive instead so our games can be the same price like its competitors... right ???

too bad ur a x360 user so u dont know what ps3 users are losing here haha....

I really don't understand some supporters. Wasn't the PS3 supposed to be at least 3 times more powerful than the Xbox 360? If that's the case, why hasn't it happened? There's a double standard going on here. When the PS3 was first unveiled, fans were quick to point out that the PS3 will wipe out the competition when it releases. Now that the PS3 is here, and it's not as promised, the supporters back up the PS3 again, saying that it needs more time?

I'm sorry, I don't see it that way. I want my purchases to justify itself upon purchase, not sometime down the road. Remember when the PS2 had games like Zone of the Enders or Ico? Those games immediately showed what the PS2 can do within the year it launched, not sometime down the road. The Xbox launched with Dead Or Alive 3 and Halo, games that showed off what Xbox can do. Dead Or Alive 3 in particular was praised for technical excellence for graphics in 2001, despite PS2 having a one year headstart at that time. So, new hardware can perform well. It just needs a good developer to harness the console's power.

Again, I'm not bashing the PS3 because it's trendy to do so or anything. There's simply not many killer apps out at the moment. MGS4 is the only graphical juggernaut on the PS3 so far. I don't doubt one day, when GT5, FFXIII or White Knight Story gets released, these kinds of discussion will be forgotten. When the time comes, PS3 will no doubt regain whatever grounds it lost this time round, and convince more developers to put out amazing games on the system. I once believed that the word PlayStation was synonymous with quality games, lots of quality games. PS1 and PS2 had an overwhelming number of games. Memorable games that I remember fondly. If PS3 were to reach that expectation someday, there can only be good news for gamers everywhere, not just PlayStation gamers. Don't take the console competition too personally.

FYI the XBOX processing core is better than PS3 if im not mistaken due to the 3 xenon processing unit that kinda crap stuff for technical geeks.. its been mention by a game developer for both x360 and ps3. futhermore the GPU of x360 is superior than the ps3 one also..

i read it somewhere before

BUT ANY how we are not discussing of the long term playability.or console war.... my ISSUE here is the CONTENT we are getting from the blu-ray game disc is not enuff for the price we pay for...

ya if there is extra space why not the dev. chip in the MAKing of the game, or commentary like in blu-ray movies... or even like extra contents like wallpapers, strategy books and all that crap to make ps3 users content wif thier ps3 games that are multiplatform
