Better in every way for portable fans.

http://psp.ign.com/articles/900/900521p1.htmlAugust 20, 2008 - The PSP design crew apparently never sits still. During its Games Convention press conference over in Leipzig, Germany, Sony took the wraps off of the much-rumored PSP 3000. The new device has the same base functionality as the current PSP (known as PSP slim, aka the PSP 2000), and in fact looks pretty much the same. However, there are of course a couple new features.
The PSP 3000 will include a built-in microphone for use with Skype and Go Messenger. It will also feature an "enhanced" LCD screen, with more vibrant colors and reduced glare when using it outside. Check out these images.
New PSP Entertainment Packs with updated PSP (PSP-3000)
We also unveiled at Leipzig an updated PSP system (PSP-3000), which we’ll be offering here initially through the previously announced Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack and a new PSP 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack. I’m personally excited about the 4GB Memory bundle because we’re including a - you guessed it - 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, which is the biggest Memory Stick we’ve ever bundled with a PSP. Similar to the new PS3 model, this PSP bundle is the result of the current consumer usage model - where more and more of you are finding that extra memory space is crucial. Check out the press release here for more details on what’s included in the bundles.
UPDATE
Sony America has now chimed in with details for North American folk on the system. The system will be available in two different bundles as well as a core package. Here are the options:
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters Entertainment Pack
Updated Mystic Silver PSP 3000
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets UMD
echochrome PSN download voucher
1GT Memory Stick PRO Duo
Available on October 14 for $199.99
PSP 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack
Updated Piano Black PSP 3000
4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo
Everyday Shooter PSN download voucher
Available in November for $199.99
A core pack will also be available, which will simply package a piano black PSP 3000 for $169.99 later this year.

The new PSP retains the size and features of the current, slimmed-down PSP (PSP-2000), while incorporating some hardware updates:
* The LCD screen will have a wider color gamut and higher contrast ratio to deliver deeper, more vibrant colors, as well as anti-reflection technology so you can see the screen more clearly when playing outdoors. As you all know, the PSP’s screen is a key strength of the hardware, and this update adds an absolutely dazzling LCD screen to the handheld.
* A built-in microphone allows for Skype calls and multi-player gaming communication directly from the hardware - eliminating the need for attaching a separate headset.
Similar to our firmware updates, the new PSP is simply an opportunity to evolve the platform with the newest technology without adding to the cost of the system. The PSP Entertainment Packs will continue to be $199.99 (MSRP), and later this year we’ll release a standalone, updated PSP in a PSP Core Pack, which remains at $169.99 (MSRP).

3. PSP-3000 shipping worldwide in October
Sony confirms new microphone-enabled, sharper-display model will hit all territories in two months--and in three colors; will replace older PSP-2000 in existing bundles.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6196373...ewstop;title;5This morning at the Leipzig Games Convention, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe officially revealed the PSP-3000. Shortly thereafter, Sony Computer Entertainment America formally announced that the latest hardware revision of the PlayStation Portable would ship worldwide in October, or in roughly two months' time.
SCEA's announcement gave more concrete details about the PSP-3000 and Sony's plans for it outside Europe. The handheld is the same width as the PSP-2000, the slimmer model Sony unveiled at E3 2007, and will sport the same video output functionality. However, the new model will now output gameplay in interlaced video format compatible with non-progressive video displays.
More significant new additions to the new PSP include a redesigned LCD screen that boasts "more natural and vibrant colors" and "anti-reflection technology" to foil glare. The handheld will also sport a built-in microphone for use with the PSP's Skype functionality and voice-enabled games, eliminating the need for an external headset.
Another change visible on the PSP-3000 is the replacement of the "home" button on its front with a button bearing the PlayStation logo. The switch prompted rumors that the new PSP would sport a XrossMediaBar (XM which could be accessed in-game as on the PlayStation 3. However, SCEA reps said that the logo button would have the same functionality as the home button, and had no new information on when--or if--an in-game XMB would come to the PSP, as trophies are suspected of.
Sony also announced today that the new PSP would come in three colors--Piano Black, Pearl White, and Mystic Silver. The new model will replace the PSP-2000 in all current retail configurations, including the $169 PSP Core Pack and the various $199 PSP Entertainment Packs. These include the forthcoming Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters Entertainment Pack, which also contains a 1GB Memory Stick Duo, an UMD copy of the film National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets, and a voucher for the downloadable title Echochrome.
