Hi,
Just want to share my experience.
About a year ago, my crown area lost too much hair until bald spots were obvious. I started to read about hair loss and yeah, MPB came into topic. I read Boonies' blog, a good and informative blog to know about it. I consulted a dermatologist and he said it's MPB. Frustrated, I took Propecia 1mg. At first I didn't know that this was a lifetime commitment. After I have done some research, I realize that it's a lifetime commitment.
I took Propecia for 4 months+. The first month, my hair shed so much. The second month, it became lesser, third and fourth month, the growth was magnificent. On the same time, I took a shampoo called Dezor which has ketoconazole (common shampoo for MPB).
The next month, I stopped taking it. To my predict, yes, my hair shed again. Frustrated with that, I analyze again my situation. After a month, I can see that my hair loss was steady. I began to research about my family history. None of us have MPB. Even my 40+ year-old-brother has so much hair, with very minor hairline receding.
Since 3-4 months ago, I took another approach by taking multivitamin with Biotin supplement. It turned out my hair was growing again, and till today, my bald spot is not visible anymore. To think about it, about a year ago, I was caught in bad fever for almost 2 weeks, changed antibiotic for several times. I predict that my hair loss was caused and triggered by those antibiotics that led to Telogen Effluvium (TE) - a temporary hair loss, because taking multivitamin with Biotin supplement grows back my hair. Biotin is a common supplement for the case of TE.
Till now I am still taking multivitamin. My hair loss is still there, but not that much, more like normal and the growing rate is rapid too.
I really hope that this is a case of TE. I know how all of you feel, when people are talking about your hair, you feel depress and lack of confident to face another day. People who never experience it will never know the feeling. They take it as a joke.
I am also disappointed that most of dermatologists nowadays are more money and business minded, they will only spend like 10-15 minutes to your problem without analyzing it thoroughly, and describe Propecia straight away. Sometimes, Internet can be your good doctor. Asking opinion around will lead to clues, and will blend to solution.
I would like to thank to Boonies for his informative blog and another dude who sets up his blog called "baldmanunited".
That's my story to share. I hope that all of you who are fighting for MPB will stay on right track and keep it positive, I know how costly it is to maintain the hair on top of your head.
Thanks
