so this is how it goes.. when the subject is a pretty girl.. everyone goes wild..

back to photography..

1) subject is OOF, and the shiny wall gives out reflection.. which looks distractive.. White balance is out too, but that depends on personal preference, in case u like warm tones.

2) background very distractive, look at the black thing beside her cheek. And it seems like subject not really in focus, means not really sharp. U using widest aperture ?

For this angle of view. It only remind me of one thing, 35L will do the job best. The only argument is either to FF the prime or crop factor... hmm.gif

I am thinking of capturing some environemt with wider angle + blur the background with f1.4 ma... tongue.gif

I had just tested the 35L. Seems like Canon had put some bokeh formular from 85L into it. Too bad the lense wide open performance is not as sharp as 85L sweat.gif

goldfries,
i don`t see anything wrong on the 2nd photo... she is just using her strength which is cute... i feel quite cute seeing her having this smile compare to the first one...

subjective. i'm just stating my POV. some people like it, others don't.

QUOTE(snowmei @ May 27 2008, 05:30 AM)
actually the 2 photo that you show not a good example.. it just show out the mistake you done on the photo which for me .. more worst than what pinku and her model done on the 2nd photo...

it's ok. smile.gif i'm just highlighting that my points about using light / flash to fill-in to avoid subject being dark due to the extremely bright background.

you may criticize my pictures on my thread instead btw, whether it's better or worse is subjective. others like it, some find it to be grave mistake. biggrin.gif POV always helps understand what others think.

thanks.

Kindly explain in what terms it gets worse? Well i can see goldfries is showing a good example of a well lighted subject.

My little comment biggrin.gif

#1 looks blur / OOF
#2 seems like abit soft on the face part... not sharp enough IMO.

Anything can be improved , hope to see more smile.gif

Btw, congrats on your new 450D

hmm...
due to low light and a small apperture value cant let you stop at faster shuter speed... you need to use lower shutter speed so it will create a "blur" photo.

how to solve oof prob ? depends on you...

Not only shot girls ma... try landscape and others biggrin.gif

ehh. just learn to focus correctly. biggrin.gif set the focus point to your subject.

i don't think OOF is a problem confined to you, all of us face it. smile.gif you can snap multiple shots of the same composition.

good try anyway, keep it up.

Depends on what situation , when shooting portrait... high shutter speed is better because you can capture the image faster ...

Another suggestion for begineers is to use Appeture priority. So u no need to have worries on the shutter speed and concern more to the appeture. Using a high F lens (like F1.8, or F2.8) should make ur subject look alot sharper with strong bokeh backgrounds.
