AirAsia Bhd will buy 76% of Indonesian low-cost carrier Batavia Air to expand in Southeast Asia’s biggest economy. AirAsia will benefit from Batavia Air’s strong agent network in Indonesia and will have a very positive effect on earnings over the next few years.

AirAsia Bhd and its Indonesian partner PT Fersindo Nusaperkasa have received the Indonesian government's approval to acquire budget airline Batavia Air.
A Dow Jones Newsire report from Jakarta had on Wednesday quoted Indonesia's air transportation director general, Herry Bhakti, that it was approved in principle. The new wire had also quoted Fersindo president director Dharmadi that his company would complete due diligence in September and the acquisition by March 2013 - THE STAR |

Maybe got some impact on earning and profit for short term, but long term I'm not so sure. If you look at other country new LCC, some have gone bust or eaten by bigger rival. Some LCC are originally private owned but after few year got bailout by their government because the owner cannot run the airline. Only time can tell if this new LCC can survive and give airasia a big blow.

TA Research Target Price 3.80
The market has oversold AirAsia and it is now attractively trading at 9.3x CY13 EPS, falling below its trough PER valuation of 9.7x during the 2009 crisis. However, given there is a risk of increase competition, TA now value AirAsia at RM3.80/share, based on a 20% premium (vs. 30% previously) to its regional peers’ average PER of 10.1x. Maintain Buy. AirAsia’s management believe the entry of Malindo will not pose threat to the group as it has; 1)solid position and brand name in the region; 2) strong balance sheet with competitive cost structure; and 3) a focus strategy growing its regional ventures to diversify earnings. |

The Philippines' Inquirer said on Thursday nothing has been signed as of yet but talks were ongoing between AirAsia and the group of former ambassador and juice-drink magnate Alfred Yao.
