Tony Fernandes is CNBC Asia's innovator of the year

AirAsia's Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, has been honoured with the Innovator of the Year award at the CNBC 12th Asia Business Leaders Awards (ABLA) in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday night.

According to the CNBC website, the ABLA distinguishes and honours leaders who have contributed and shaped the Asian economy, and are visionaries behind today's outstanding businesses.

Fernandes, the AirAsia Group chief executive officer and Star Publications (M) Bhd independent non-executive director, was recently awarded the Honour of the Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, conferred on him for services to promote commercial and educational links between the United Kingdom and Malaysia.

Update on status of Joint Venture

AirAsia wishes to announce that there have not been any further changes in the status of the AirAsia India joint venture since the announcement made on 26 September 2013 on the receipt of the Initial No Objection Certificate ("NOC") from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, India.

AirAsia falls to near 3 month low

Shares of AirAsia Bhd hit a low of RM2.44, the lowest since Aug 28, 2013 after it reported lower net profit in the third quarter ended Sept 30, which also saw CIMB Equities Research downgrading it from Outperform to Neutral.

CIMB Research has lowered the target price of AirAsia from RM3.05 to RM2.55 and downgraded it from Outperform to Neutral.

“Given the level of competition in the marketplace, we had expected weak results but AirAsia’s 9M13 core net profit of RM376mil still fell below our expectations. Due to yield pressure, it accounted for just half of our previous full-year forecast against a more typical 55%-60%,” it said.

CIMB Research believes yield pressure will persist in 2014 as Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is intent on defending its market share.

“As such, we downgrade from Outperform to Neutral and cut FY13-15 core EPS estimates 16-20% for lower yields. Our target price is also reduced, still based on 11 times CY15 P/E, the sector average,” it said.
