AirAsia, first M’sian operator to gain RNP-AR-APCH operations approval
AirAsia Bhd has become the first Malaysian operator to obtain approval from the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to fly the Required Navigation Performance Authorisation Required Approach (RNP-AR APCH) flight paths. The DCA granted the approval after the successful validation of the flight paths in Penang, the airline statement said today. RNP-AR APCH procedures can shorten the distance an aircraft has to fly en-route, reduce fuel burn, exhaust emissions and noise pollution in communities near airports, which can help air traffic controllers trim flight delays and alleviate air traffic congestion. AirAsia has collaborated with GE Aviation, a subsidiary of General Electric, and DCA on the nationwide flight path programme since 2012 to improve operational efficiency at 15 local airports. Giovanni Spitale, GE Aviation Flight Efficiency Services General Manager said the flight paths can save nearly 12 nautical miles per approach at Penang, 23 nautical miles at the Kuching Airport and 18 nautical miles at Kota Bharu, compared with the standard terminal arrival. "Once the flight paths are in place at 15 airports in Malaysia, AirAsia expects to save up to RM1 million a year from reduced fuel costs," he was quoted as saying in the statement. |

AirAsia India unlikely to fly before summer 2014
AirAsia India, which was initially optimistic about starting operations by October this year and then January 2014, may now need to wait until summer 2014 before it can start flying, according to media reports. Now, another hitch could be the voluntary retirement that current Director General of Civil Aviation has opted for -- his last day in office is Dec 31. Until now, there has been no decision on a successor, said Firstpost.com. So, it is possible that AirAsia's launch plans could be further delayed since its operating permit still needs to be issued by the DGCA. The official quoted earlier said there is a long-drawn procedure for issuing a Scheduled Operators' Permit (SOP), the report said. The report also said that there has been persistent speculation over the Tatas pulling out of AirAsia India since the two business models (LCC & Full service JV with SIA) are widely divergent and may not offer synergies. The ministry official quoted earlier said in case the Tatas were to pull out, the entire process would have to be cancelled. |

QUOTE(lcchong76 @ Feb 27 2014, 11:08 PM) AIRASIA Analysis:- very good analyze on AirAsia http://lcchong.wordpress.com/2014/02/27/ai...is-27-feb-2014/ My View:- - Market Timing – EY%: Buy below 3.25, sell above 4.05 - I believe that while AIRASIA’s growth drivers will be still valid and solid, AIRASIA’s cost saving initiatives will help them to improve net profit in the future. The cost saving initiatives include: (i) increasing the use of automation (ii) reduce marketing spending (iii) renegotiation of engineering contracts (iv) route rationalisation (v) closure of regional offices (vi) disposing old aircraft in order to be more competitive in the market. - Apart from cost saving initiatives, management will also strive to strike a balance by enhancing its revenue through its "Emirates Project" by introducing more connecting flights with AAX and other AOCS, growing its ancillary income per pax from RM41 to RM50 by introducing Wifi and Duty Free Shopping on plane. - I believe that FY2014 would be a better year as compared to 2013, with the expectation that yield would recover and its cost savings initiatives would boost earnings. - On the other hand, MAS and AIRASIA have guided that domestic and intra-ASEAN fares are unlikely to decline further from the already-low levels, but fares are unlikely to rise either, as capacity deployment over the next six months will be kept at present levels and there is no evidence of capacity rationalisation. As the weak 4Q13 fares carry over into 2014, some analysts expect MAA to experience an average 5% underlying yield compression in 2014, leading to a 26% core net profit decline. To make things worse, Thai AirAsia’s profit is likely to shrink and Indonesia AirAsia’s losses expand further this year. Thus, the analysts expect AirAsia’s group core net profit to fall a massive 43% yoy in 2014. The outlook may improve in 2015-16 as the losses are unsustainable for MAS and Malindo. I also conquer with their view. - Based on Changes in Sub. S-hldr’s Int. (29B), since Jan 2014, EPF has been heavily buying AIRASIA, and Wellington also stopped net selling AIRASIA. Heavy buy by EPF doesn’t guarantee appreciation of AIRASIA’s stock price, but it provides a very strong support from 2.2 to 2.4. - AirAsia has told Bursa Malaysia that it is proposing to buy up to 10% of its issued and paid-up share capital at any point in time. The proposed share buyback, if implemented, will enable AirAsia and its subsidiaries to utilise any of its surplus financial resources, which are not immediately required for other uses, to purchase its own shares from the market, the company said. The proposed share buyback is expected to stabilise the price of AirAsia shares and to prevent against speculation of the shares, when undervalued, to enhance investors’ confidence. (27 Feb 2014) - I have accumulated AIRASIA 3 times in Dec 2013 and Jan 2014 in the range from 2.3 to 2.4, so I won’t accumulate AIRASIA in near term or until it formed a new higher support. Latest Financial – Q4 2013 Financial Report (26 Feb 2014) http://www.bursamalaysia.com/market/listed...cements/1550541 At the time of writing, I owned shares of AIRASIA. |

AirAsia India maiden flight takes off on June 12
AirAsia India which is finally taking off after much delay from its initial planned timeframe is definitely in party mode as its maiden flight would be to Goa, a former Portuguese province. The first flight would take off on June 12 from India's silicon city Bangalore and land in Goa - which attracts a large number of foreign and domestic tourists mainly for its beaches and party environment. Fares are from Rs990 inclusive taxes (RM54) onwards, Indian media reported. Panaji is the state's capital, while Vasco da Gama is the largest city. |

AirAsia denies funding issue reason for corporate office staying on at LCCT
In a statement Monday, the carrier clarified that it was in the midst of obtaining approvals from local authorities for its new office building at klia2 and did not face any funding issues, as claimed in the published article. Responding to the article, AirAsia said it was requested to reduce the height of its new building when the control tower at klia2 was relocated to a new site upon instruction by the authorities. As a result of the reduced height, the original site and plan for the new office building became structurally uneconomical, it said. The carrier said a new site had to be identified and plans had to be redrawn and re-submitted for approval which has adjusted the timeline of the new office building significantly for AirAsia. It said construction of the new building was expected to commence in July 2014 for completion late next year. |

Rakuten to invest in AirAsia Japan
JAPAN’S top e-commerce site operator Rakuten will enter the air travel business by allying with Asia’s biggest low-cost carrier, AirAsia, a report said yesterday. Rakuten is preparing to make a capital injection in AirAsia’s Japanese unit, possibly next year, the Toyo Keizai economic magazine said on its online edition. Two or three more Japanese companies may also put cash into AirAsia Japan, it said. The Toyo Keizai said one of the likeliest ideas was that Rakuten and AirAsia could hold a maximum one-third each of the Japanese unit’s shares with the remaining one-third held by a combination of other Japanese firms. Public broadcaster NHK said talks were being held with the aim of Rakuten getting a stake of around 15 to 19 per cent for a little more than one billion yen (RM31.53 million). Japan’s aviation law limits a foreign equity stake in a Japanese airline to one-third. The new carrier could operate flights linking central Japan’s Chubu Centrair airport with main Japanese destinations, the Toyo Keizai said. The magazine quoted a senior official at the transport ministry as saying it was aiming to start flight services next year. |

AirAsia partners 4 Japan firms to form AirAsia Japan
AirAsia Bhd announced here today that it will be entering into partnership with four local companies to restart AirAsia Japan which costs US$70 million. The four shareholders are Octave Japan Infrastructure Fund I GK (19%), Rakuten Inc. (18%), Noevir Holdings Co. Ltd. (9%), and Alpen Co. Ltd. (5%). AirAsia will have a 49% shareholding. AirAsia group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said that he is excited to return to Japan's skies together with Octave, Rakuten, Noevir and Alpen this time around.” "It is all about relationships and we have the right chemistry," Fernandes told reporters before the announcement. He expressed confidence that the strong partnership and new investors will be able to revolutionize the low-cost carrier segment of Japan. He also noted that the formation of the airline, which is still pending approvals from the relevant authorities, is expected to start operations mid next year. |
