QUOTE(cherroy @ Jun 3 2008, 12:34 AM) Gov abolish cement ceiling price, discard steel ceiling price, implement new fuel subsidy in short period of time has signalled there is huge potential problem of inflation in near future. It is not only in Malaysia but generally in overall Asia countries as most Asian countries subsidy a lot of essential stuff including petrol but now all are struggling to maintain it. So foreign investors will view negatively on Asian bourses in general because of potential out of control inflation situation, Vietnam is the first casualty already, stock market plunge more than 50% in relatively short period of time and currency depreciated rapidly. Yes, seems like CI is closing under 1260 confirming the bearish market sentiment. One thing from experience trading on FKLI. In a bearish market, spot month (if still early of the month), FKLI would generally trade about 10 points discount to current KLCI.While bullish time, it traded easily 5-10 points above. So by no mean FKLI would surely trade at the same level as KLCI, it depends on market sentiment. |

Added on June 4, 2008, 9:31 amI was reading a very interesting article about how the US government underestimate CPI by 1%. I wonder if Malaysia is doing the same. What do they actually mean in August the price of petrol will reflect current market price? So that means RM4-5 per liter?
I am just wondering, those import duties we pay on foreign cars....what are those for? This post has been edited by AdamG1981: Jun 4 2008, 09:42 AM |

IF we are a net exporter of oil, that's mean Petgas still has all that huge profit from selling crude oil at market price right?!?!

PETGAS has the money to purchase SANTOS in Aussie. SO, why are we removing subsidy again?
Sorry, but our government math doesn't make any sense at all. |

QUOTE(kinwawa @ Jun 3 2008, 06:53 PM) tat's wat they propose..free market....i went to US and they have like SALE!! SALE!!! Today 10% for fuel...something like tat....price of petrol changes everyday The only two things about Malaysia is the healthcare, food prices and oil. All these were "cheap". IF the govt cant keep the budget deficit under control, say GOODBYE to FREE healthcare!!Pls dun compare ppl earning in EUROPE n ppl earning in M'sia w/o comparing tax structure etc..... and....dun panic ppl....SUBSIDY will still be here....just tat the method of 'implementation' has not been finalized....either thru mykad, based on salary range...or quota for filling petrol etc..... DO you all really think they can implement it w/o giving back subsidy (reduced one maybe)???? One toll citizen also dowan pay......can fight n protest........if RM3-4/litre...i think petronas building might get burned....or u'll c ppl rallying n protesting for PM to step down like wat happened in Thailand... QUOTE(smile93 @ Jun 3 2008, 06:59 PM) If I can earn as much as US people, I don't mind to pay for the price. Hence the government is doing all sorts of damage control; giving the press information about its finances, monetary policy, etc. Trying to restore confidence before announcing the fuel hike. IT isn't going to work. What I afraid it the immediate inflation because of this price incease, then, interest rate, food, all increase. This is pull the investers out of Malaysia, and make it to another 1997. I think it is time to pull out from share market and save my bullet after Aug. Added on June 4, 2008, 10:05 amAnd about banning fuel to singaporeans? Oh my...Singapore dollar is so much higher than the ringgit. How about forcing singaporeans to buy/shop in Johor, get a receipt and then be eligible for fuel subsidy? Instead the govt opt to chase away tourists! A financial teller in the bank (in california) makes 2000 even, working 6 days a week. Over here, very much lower. The general population in the US is already PISSED off having to pay so much for fuel. Imagine over here, even a 50 cents increase in fuel, where the rakyat get the money??

QUOTE(kinwawa @ Jun 3 2008, 07:08 PM) fyi..i have about 10 relatives migrated to US.....i'ved been there.....salary might be 3-5k/month for freshie...but average 40% goes to tax..... I agree. You don't see Europeans complaining like the Americans. That's because their fuel bill is already high enough. Instead of driving SUVs, they prefer small hatchbacks, sedans that have good gas mileage. The Americans have this mentality, (China too) regarding the bigger the motor is, the better it is. True enough since the highways in the US is BIG enough for a 300 kmph run. However, they are too dependent on cheap fuel until recently. they can earn a lot but they dun drive a lot mind u...it's really too xpensive to drive in US (new york in particular)......petrol...parking....insurance is way too high...not to mention car repair cost a bomb there.....usually they only use it during weekends..... but....their public transport is very efficient...although old n dirty food n goods are cheap there (if earn USD)....but properties is toooooooo xpensive.....(700k for double storey to stay in S'ban-distance fr CITY centre) if u ask me......i dun mind paying market price if u can improve the public transport....make it really really convenient......n take away taxes for cars ...make them cheap...... -just my opinion- Malaysians were too complacent in using fuel. PETGAS should have develop the country infrastructure especially transportation system and promote renewable energy. This post has been edited by AdamG1981: Jun 4 2008, 10:12 AM |

Speaking of AirAsia, this is the only airline i know of that doesn't hedge against the rise in jet fuel prices. Wow....

Hedging (in terms of AirAsia)
Pro: Might reduce your cost of jet fuel. Basically an insurance policy Con: Might not have the cash for operations? |

QUOTE(smile93 @ Jun 3 2008, 07:29 PM) True, but even SQ with the best hedging system increased fuel subcharge. What makes AirAsia not needing to increase fuel subcharge or hedging fuel prices?Tony Fernandes is saying rapid route expansion and capacity will be profitable. Again, it doesn't make no sense when AirAsia has to borrow for that rapid expansion. This post has been edited by AdamG1981: Jun 4 2008, 10:33 AM |
