Air Cond, need to clarify a few info

hi all,
just wanna know
what does the HP on the air cond actually stands for ? cause i'm planning to get an air cond.. and i dont know how powerful or what is the recommended HP to room size that i need
is there a guide that i can look at.. ?

Depends on brands of aircons if u go study various brands york, toshiba, panasonic..etc 1HP ranges from 8000btu to 12000btu if i nt wrong 1HP york aircon is 8000btu while panasonic 1hp =10000btu as a general rule of thumb, cooling capacity required= room area (in sqft) x 65btu for a house...

What is the max HP out there? My back neighbour using a big ass air-conditioner. I can confirm it is more than 2HP.
