Watched the movie again today (12.10pm show TGV, normal). Didn't even feel like it was 2 hours 45 minutes ! It was so much more faster...
The 3D is definitely much more sharper than the normal version, obviously. I feel the experience of 3D/non-3D is comparably the same, though 3D is definitely more worth it.
@defaultname365, What is the diffrence betwwen #D and non other than the sharpness? Actually want to watch 3d but ticket sold out and I afraid will good headache after that. But if the difference is big, probably will try to watch it.
Seriously though... my vision is obscured by the glasses' "rims"... e.g I see the movie, yes, but I also notice the rims of the glasses. To be honest, it is indeed more immersive, but I am trying my best not to notice the rims.
Steven Spielberg: The last time I came out of a movie feeling that way it was the first time I saw Star Wars.” … “The most evocative and amazing science-fiction movie since Star Wars.”
Pixar Animator Andrew Gordon: “We were blown away. Hats off to all the amazing artists that were involved with making that film. You guys really set the bar high. I was immersed in the story and characters. The animation/motion capture was superb. You could tell every frame was touched by an animator, mocap or not. I have not felt like that since I was a kid… The facial animation was so believable… Every eye dart, every movement of the brows communicated things so clearly. The world was so lush. I can’t wait to see it again! Some of the guys saw it in 2d and liked it just as much. The way to experience it in my opinion is 3d Imax. Cameron really knows how to push and pull the depth.”
Lost co-creator and Star Trek producer Damon Lindelof: “I’ll say what others won’t. Avatar hypnotized me. I’m not sure if it’s a work of genius or utter shit. Could it be BOTH?”
X2 and Superman Returns director Bryan Singer: “It was very cool. I had seen 30-40 minutes before, but the whole thing was amazing. From the beginning, with those shots in space, I felt goosebumps. It was inspiring. I’m going back and forth, debating, on using 3D for “Jack,” and it pushed me a little closer in the 3D direction.”
No doubt "Avatar" is the best of 09. Right alongside "D9". Love em! Oscar for Avatar next year for Best Visual Effects. Undoubtedly. This is revolutionary!

Granted, will you want to work with a hot headed director like James Cameron even though he is a mastermind of movie making? Apparently the actors "get it lightly" but the crew always kena scolding from him badly.
Want to know the source of Jim's anger/temper?
QUOTE
"James Cameron: I would say that my father was completely unsupportive in any way, shape or form, and was really sort of just sharpening his knives waiting for me to fail so that he could say, "Ah-ha, I was right. You should have gone into engineering." And it was also this sort of attitude of, "Well, you know, one of these days you'll get a real job and this film thing, you know, will pass as a fad." So there was zero support there. And I actually think that it made me angry enough that I had to succeed. I think if I had a soft, rosy, supportive kind of "It's good if you do it, but if it doesn't work out..." sort of thing that it would have been different. But it kind of made me mad, and I had to prove that I was right, that this was the right thing to be doing and I think it made me mad enough to get good, you know."
Lol... father wanted him to do engineering but he went into movie making. And proved him that it was the right choice.
Avatar 2 sees a brand new story, almost no relation with the events in Avatar. Then in Avatar 3, the whole RDA / Na'vi / new plot clashes for an epic finale. Well, I really believe Avatar opens up a whole lot of possibilities for future movies. Think Star Wars... more is to come!
^ I expected it surpass $1 billion, but not this soon! Less than a month since release... phenomenal!
So now two of the highest grossing movie of all time belongs to James Cameron. Holy James!
Watched it twice, planning a third. Problem is, the more times watched, the less 'eventful' the viewing on Blu-Ray in the future will be at least for me.
"Avatar" is one of those "this movie is awesome, go tell your friends to watch it." and word passes around and before you know it, "Avatar" is packing full houses for a loooong time...
As the movie producer put it "Avatar is not a movie you can talk about. You have to experience it yourself."
Yeah...experience half of the screen with subtitles. And I wonder why the fonts were so big for the Bahasa Melayu. I bet if the alien language was translated into English than it will be 3/4 of the screen.. Spoil a good movie.
I had no issues at all with subtitles... especially in 3D since it is all English.
Quite funny I watched it 2nd time normal 2D and the subs were in Bahasa, complete with all the Na'vi-ish style writing...
James Cameron should fuse "Avatar" and "Titanic" together... "Avatanic"
Imagine the Titanic ship mysteriously floats into the unknown cold ocean waters, and when everything clears, they are on Pandora's ocean! The occupants rush to see this mysterious place... and they start venturing. And then the encounters begin... "Top of the morning, mate!" A passenger says to a Na'vi. "<navi language>" says the Na'vi. Then the attack begins. Before the attack, the Na'vi start rounding up more warriors and tribes and give long speeches. All the passengers board the Titanic in panic. Some don't make it. That makes the captain of the ship angry. And wants revenge.
The Na'vi begin attacking the ship and all hell breaks lose. Incredibly, the Titanic is somehow equipped with awesomeness weapons and starts shooting at them Na'vi pew-pew laser fire... then all the Pandora flying creatures including the Great Leonopteryx and Mountain Banshees start attacking the ship.
An epic battle... a tragic tale... and in the middle of it all... Jack and Rose struggles to find balance. In the end, Jack meets Neytiri and falls for her. Rose meets Jake Sully and falls for him. Their worlds cross in a movie unlike anything you've ever seen... or had never been seen in this manner.
Kinda surprised that Avatar won two Golden Globes (Director and then... Motion Picture!).
Considering the likes of other movies in the category, quite amazed. I sincerely believe Avatar represents the future of movies especially in visual effects, and and this moment, not one movie has any better visuals than Avatar. As for James Cameron winning best director - - kudos to him. No other director IMO would go to lengths he went and to make it as believable as it is. And the risk one has to endure might be too much to bear.
I noticed he brought up the "best job" thing during his speech... as well all know his dad is his worst critic and Jim was never meant to be in the movie world and he proved his dad wrong many times, and this time is also not an exception.
I did wish D9 had won for best screenplay...
Oh well... planning to watch Avatar (in 3D, again) this weekend!
Holy crap at the Box Office figures ! ...and I thought Avatar would start to slow considerably after reaching $1 billion! I am dead wrong. It is at $1.6 worldwide gross. OMG.
i like all reviews in here. cant comment on anything yet, because i havent even watch avatar. tomorrow will be my 1st time watching avatar in 3D. going for the 9:30 pm one at sunway pyramid. no suprise really, i know im in for something really big here (be it the story or 3D effects) and im prepared for it. avatar, bring it on, here i come!
got any tips for me that i should know for those who have watched avatar ? i think ill keep things low here. dont want to get too over excited.
Just lose yourself to the plot and keep an eye out for startlingly beautiful sceneries... savor the "epic-ness" that unfolds towards the end when all hell breaks loose. omg... i so want to watch this part...
There are reports saying James Cameron dissed Meryl Streep and also said that all the Haiti funds go to administration and not to the victims... also 'reportedly' backstage he was incredibly high of himself... typical Cameron behavior in my opinion. He is superbly talented, but not really a people's person imo.
Watched Avatar for the third (and final time) at 1U GSC in 3D on Friday. Next viewing will be on Blu-Ray.
I can seal my approval that Avatar is 'the' movie with the best visual effects in a feature-length movie. It will not be surpassed for sometime unless someone out there comes out with similar visual effects production technique and/or use the awesomeness of Weta Digital.
Watched it first time in Digital 3D, the second in normal screen, then the third again in Digital 3D. Digital 3D gives you the most amazing clarity and the lack of subtitles for English>Malay just makes the screen absolutely clean. The Na'vi language is also in English and not Malay like in the non-3D version.
First movie of 2010 - - Avatar (2009)
Next maybe Shutter Island, and undoubtedly The Lovely Bones.
