If I could fix your computer, how much would you pay?

How much would you pay if:
I can recover all your important files that you've deleted or formatted over(Hard disk and memory card)

I can setup your computer so you won't be throttled when using Bittorrent through Streamyx(Guaranteed to work)

I can install any hardware you want me to(Some people are willing to pay computer shop to install DVD-ROM for them...)

I can offer software solutions to every single one of your needs(I can consult you on what software you need to do everything, AKA Software Consultation)

I can fix any hardware/software problems you have(please describe your problems)

If you have any software/hardware problems, please tell me so I can know my market here and the complexity of the things I need to solve.
Also, it would be helpful if you offer realistic price point for me to solve your problems.(One thing I definitely won't do is format over your precious data n install Windows for you)

@ H4RRY

I wonder... is this kind of service lucrative? Because I can everything you can too and I'm not even an IT student whatsoever...

But my feedback will be

"Q: I can recover all your important files that you've deleted or formatted over(Hard disk and memory card)"

If you can really do this and guaranteed to work... you can charge quite a lot bro

Doing it as a part time job.
I really can recover any files, I've done it before. It's quite easy.

I think I can get like RM5-10 doing port forwarding and software stuff. Easy stuff. This will probably be high-demand as most still don't know. But it's easy work. Charge lower or higher since most will want it.

Install hardware, RM5-10 is reasonable, I guess.

Consultancy is a hard thing to price...

I'm in electronics field. Engineer to be here.

I can tell u now, that most IT students don't even know how to format. I'm not an IT student. I'm a geek that knows quite a lot of stuff. Trying to see how much my knowledge is worth.
Recovering data is easy but will took a lot of power.
QUOTE(Intermezzo @ May 19 2008, 12:49 AM)
after formatting?????

how much u sell for this tactic ?

or after i formatted my pc ...i ask u to recover all files ...how much u charge?

miss 1 file , i will not pay 1sen to u
*
Yes after formatting. Depending on some reasonable conditions. I had recovered an entire 80GB worth of data when i accidentally formatted using Windows Disk Management(stupid software that didn't ask for confirmation)
Reasonable price as in I will look at the condition n telling u which data I can recover.
QUOTE(Gurdian @ May 19 2008, 12:52 AM)

LOL, troll. I'm not ur average geek-wannabe. I know my stuff. I'm merely asking basic stuff. What complex problems people need solving and charging reasonable price. People are wiling to pay to install DVD-ROM for RM5, then I'll take that money.

The market for this is not super-geek. It's fixing things computer shop won't fix. I did revive my old mobo and PSU years ago.

I had no intention to show geeks more advanced than me how to fix things. This service is for common people. Actually, if u know some stuff, then u're welcome to join me. BTW, I'm sick of fixing people's PC and formatting PCs for free. It dawns upon me that I can even fix complex problems through phone in 5minutes asking her basic questions. It's stupid not to sell this service.

P/S: Someone I know that programs BIOS at Intel Penang doesn't even know how to fix some of the things I know. So, I consider myself quite OK.

Also, most of the time I ask anyone at any computer shop, they will look at me dumb-founded. WTF is a KVM switch and such. I had my precious data wipe out because stupid technician can't understand basic instructions and told me my HD is dead when I revive it after checking it with some basic software. I will never ask shop to fix my comp and I want to offer genuine solutions with an affordable price.

Telling me that anyone can recover data after deleted or formatted is bullshit, you and I know it. Also, I've meet lots of geek-wannabe that knows shit, yet reads every local computer magazine out thr. Maybe thr's lots of geeks here in Lowyat.net but lots of people outside dunno shit.

I'm not providing any service yet. I'm looking for a market and wondering what prices people will pay. Reasonable conditions like whether u want to recover years old data(almost impossible unless i have electron microscope) or whether u have written over most of the data. Reasonable. I'm not some data recovering company with forensic tools or anything.

i just recovered a lot of files from a friend's pc for free the other day since her ex-bf sent her a virus. i also did it because she stored all our lab data in the pc, which was easily recoverable but she didnt tell me before she reformatted her pc, resulting to my using a more difficult method of scanning the whole hdd for left over files...

i did it for free, but that's just because she was a friend. if ure not an associate id charge you biggrin.gif

1. A very very important data some company charge you up to RM10 000 per GB. Depends on the damage. Of course need an alien technology to do so. <-- includes physically damaged hdd/hard format
2. RM50*12 Same like using VPN <- Must have guarantee 12months and anon surfing, and >100kbps download per file over 1mbps connection too.
3. Depends on the hardware. For such optical rom maybe RM1.00, for change phase cooling hardware up to RM900.00 whistling.gif. Later dont run away ah. whistling.gif
4. RM 20% of the hardware price.
5. Depends on the hardware. If the hardware/software need to be replaced, then RM 20% of the price.
6. This thing depends on the experience=priceless. thumbup.gif

Usually i charge them to treat a meal only if help to install things. Hardware/software they pay. tongue.gif

addon: anyone can help me to recover my 20gb maxtor hdd whistling.gif?

Pls charge more expensive dude, example per hour RM300 or per trip.
Don't make IT support skills as low as general technician.

Thanks.

All my friends treat me like some free technician asking me format coz got virus lah, computer broken lah. I'm sick of it. Might as well charge money for doing so, computer skills are not cheap. Lots of dumb people out thr offering to do free job. Imagine u're so popular, your frens's frens also ask u do something for him(a stranger) for free. I ask him pay to fix his stuff, he look at me like I'm crazy. That's why I'll never do a Windows format, it's cheap. Providing service is different, I fix things instead of taking the computer shop route of format your entire drive(with no backup somemore, after I told him to backup first). How much is the cost of real service?

I am really pro men. i fix bugget pcs ! pls men !

oh back to to the topic

Well it depends. Sometimes , I do offer free consultation. But if they want to get something done such as reformatting , installing hardware and backing up their files and doing a fresh install , i'll charge them a small fee. its very simple , its mainly because of inflation. (you gotta make extra money). The charges its up to you

I've a question for you. where will you be doing the consultation. I'm assuming you are doing it in East malaysia , if so charge slightly cheaper. But if you plan to do in Kuala Lumpur , charge'em up. especially if you want to "Fix" their bit torrrent issue !

I did try help as much as possible. Sometimes, it took a lot of time and some of them just say thank, thank you, then never heard from them again. Frankly, it's ok if u ask me to fix hard problems when i have lots of time(since I enjoyed solving problems/gaining knowledge) but asking me to reformat every few months is boring, stupid repetitive work. RM5 to install DVD-ROM is a big amount for me and they prefer to pay more for shop to do it for them =.=
