It's good if you think it straight forward.
But, try to think it twice or more. You'll know that's a bad idea.

I've survived for 3 years, no complains. xD Just that I'm extremely bored with the food here. xD

Hiya guys ~ im currently in 2nd sem now ~ 4th week >.<

i hear alot of ppl say that TOA is dam hard and got no time do this, no time do that, this mayb true to a certain extent but seriously... its time to grow up... when u start working, u gonna have more shit thrown at you so just suck it up and keep on at it. OR as my History of Art lect says "THIS IS THE MALAYSIAN MENTALITY, THE STUPID 'BOLEH LAH' ATTITUDE THAT IS NOT GONNA GET YOU NOWHERE"- Anderson. In any profession, if ur not gonna give it ur all, ur not gonna get any better.
I personally find it really fun and ever since i joined.. i actually hate it when there are holidays coz its so boring at home and the frens in college are friggin awesome >.< the people you will meet in TOA have proven to be all one of a kind, and fun to be with.

When i talk to my former high school frens who are studying business/medicine, they keep complaining about how much of studying they gotta do and they got no time to play, blablabla... truth be told, i was a really bad procrastinator back in High school AND i still am (a little) but in TOA as long as you put ur effort into your pieces and produce all ur work in the time allocated,... there will be no problems. I still fine loads of time to COD or L4D2 ~

another thing i keep hearing is the salary, personally i dont give a shit (excuse the language) as long as its enough to survive with a family in the future im a happy man, a happy man who enjoys what he is doing. I joined this field not to become a friggin millionaire, i joined it because i want to create, and amaze the people around me, i want people to look at what i do and say "omg, is that even possible ?". Its that glow in their eyes and smiles on their faces, that i work for. And  if ur parents are giving u that 'talk' abt how design got no hope, you turn around and tell them this.... "EVEN UR UNDERWEAR GOT SOMEONE WHO DESIGNED IT"

Phew.. that was a long ass rant, but i felt like i just had to get it off my chest. >.< sorry if i offended anyone

TOA ROX. FTW !
anyways i got some questions for the seniors. ill be majoring in digital animation. may i knwo what subjects we will be having in the coming semesters ? im just curious. i heard we will have drama class n stuff but because we are having too many credit hours. some lessons are gonna be removed ?

truth is the two thing i like are creating replicas/models (weapons/armours/figures,etc) and also filming. The big dream is to one day become a film director. Im curious if, we will be learn things like Adobe after effects ?

Be prepared when you enter DG. xD
Yes, you are taught how to use After Effects and Combustion, you'll have a few dedicated classes for it.

@inachi,
Do you want me to report you as spamming?

@LZ Zach,
It can be good but it also can be bad.
The bad side is you can't learn much things. The good side is you can more focus on the thing you want.
*
There is never a such thing as "you can't learn much things", I am still in the old syllabus, but that never stopped us from specializing in where our interests are and also learning beyond that. Really la, lecturers are there to guide us and help us when we face technical issues, other than that you are on your own de.

For those going through the new syllabus now, good luck la, you are officially TOA's guinea pigs. xD

No tongue.gif why must we be guinea pigs ?
*
The ones who are guinea pigs now are the ones going through the new syllabus in TOA, like, this term itself. Afterall it isn't fully refined yet.

Well, so they'll most likely to consider it into the syllabus once the current batch goes through their 'testing'?

Do they usually do this for other courses too?
*
Not sure. D:

Sorry guys if I have led this question out of topic, but may I ask something?

It's been bothering me and a teacher of mine kept advising about holding on to Physics instead of dropping it...

Is it necessary for animators to learn SPM-level physics? I don't really see why strings of equations are needed for animation, of course maybe animation has their own type of 'physics'.

Would you suggest what subjects is appropriate or necessary and which are not? I'm gonna drop Physics AND take up Art, is it okay?

Thanks for reading this! tongue.gif

Thanks for the reply, I guess I can safely tell my teacher that Physics isn't a necessary subs for animation anyway  tongue.gif

And...what about maths or add maths? Do you guys use some of those?  rolleyes.gif

Maths need la, basic life knowledge.

But add maths, err. Nah.

omg..u making me scared now..haha..i hope i don fail any subs..*touch wood* but at least i submit ALL the assignments la..
my sem now is 4figures per week with full shading..aiks..next sem gonna same with sueanne d.. cry.gif  icon_question.gif
i really hope i can enter major asap..although its harder than foundation but at least i no need to face with my pencil sets everyday! haha
its really stressful..every sub in every week have a FEW assignments..so u cant relax/rest..unless u realy do things very fast..for beginners, usuallly we take a longer time to complete assignments..therefore, everyday assignments..try to rest one day and pile up ur assignments and u are dead.. shakehead.gif
p/s:since the day i enter TOA, max 5hours of sleeping time..yest 1hour.."AWESOME!"
*
You won't fail as long as you hand up all your assignments, and make sure it is not last minute job. People can tell, don't try to cheat your way through. The lecturers can determine usually how long you spend on an artwork.

Sorry for going off the main topic of this thread but...
just one silly question to ask from a newb like me:

1)Do you use industry standard (ACME) peg bars for your traditional animation?

2)And do you use punchers that fits the size of the pegs?

3)If so, what paper size you'd usually use (maybe industry-standard)? Is it A4/Letter?

Thanks for reading this question!
*
1: Yes
2 & 3 : It's all provided at Vision art shop behind TOA, all you need with you is the money. The paper size is set and its already punched when you buy from them.

Thanks for the quick reply!  tongue.gif Now I can try some old traditional style of that animation table!

Added on December 27, 2010, 10:42 pmI just realised the price of one stack of pre-punched papers is totally...shocking.gif

Do you guys actually got those for your projects?!
*
Usually seniors will have extra, you can buy from them cheaper. But yes, we got those for our project, 2D animation.

I was wondering about the earlier topic you guys have discussed about...

Could anyone confirm about the animation course there, and what is the degree of specialisation in area of animation(of the course)?

I'm just having some problem with my family, as my brother and I are planning to take up the same course after we graduate this year. So, I just hope you guys could clarify this so that I can convince my dad as well.
*
I don't think TOA has a degree programme for animation.. yet. Hmm.

QUOTE(SweetPuff @ Feb 1 2011, 11:20 PM)
No such thing as not being 'intelligent enough'. You're still too young to feel that way. If you already thinking that way, you're just handicapping yourself for the future.

My secondary school results were only so so. But luckily I have good parents and friends to motivate me to do better. And I managed to win a couple of awards during my degree years in Australia. Then as a multimedia designer, I've worked on projects for MSN Malaysia & Singapore, Mandarin Oriental, United Nations, Hong Leong, etc.

Don't keep opting for the easy way, challenge yourself so that you'll improve.

One piece of advice I learned when I was doing internship in college: If you got the chance to study, go for it. Knowledge and experience are one of the few things that no one can ever take away from you.

Sweetpuff, do you play... Killing Floor? xD

I think you've misunderstand on the 'degree' part! So sorry on my behalf for not clarifying it in more detail tongue.gif

Actually, I was meaning to ask about the intensity of the scope of course, like how deep are they going to dive into the subject, and the diversity of the area of study they are to cover in that course blush.gif  Maybe my english is a little off-chart, sorry
*
Oh, my bad. The moment I saw degree I thought you were just talking about their degree programme. =x

The intensity I would say it really depends how much you want to absorb. TOA just gives you the basics and guides you through. At least that was when I was still studying in TOA. Plus, mine was pretty rojak also, they teach everything, lol.

Atm, they have divided Digital animation into 3 subs; animation, modeling and special effects. Not sure how advance they are now la though.

I think the best way to know how intense their course will be is to go to TOA and request for their course syllabus.
