QUOTE(gsan @ May 14 2008, 07:44 PM) Due to my friend's mistake, he had destroyed the screw head (+ shape) at the back of his laptop. Any epxert got idea how to remove it? one way to force remove it by drill it all the wayin your case its not an option as it is a laptop left one option super duper glue (epoxy or any other damn hard adhesive material) the screw driver with the spoilt screw head this will make the screw driver stick to the spoilt screw head really really hard (as if they were one part altogether) then just unscrew it This post has been edited by E-J@1: May 14 2008, 07:56 PM |

there's a tool called EasyOut. it's normally used in aviation industry where mechanics/engineers use it to remove a screw that has damaged phillips + recess. the tool looks just like a screw, with threaded shanks but with a square head for it to be driven/turned by a wrench.
a normal fastening screw has right hand turn. it means by turning the screw clockwise (CW), you'll drive the screw inward. to loosen it, you have to turn it counterclockwise (CCW). the EasyOut tool has left hand turn. it means by turning the tool CCW like a screwdriver, you'll drive the tool inward (which is opposite from the screw), hence the sharp thread of the tool will bite into the screw's worn out phillip recess, gripping the screw. at the same time, while the tool is being driven CCW, you're also removing the screw. p/s: the usage of the tool in removing the damaged head screw is easier said than done. i've no idea where to buy the tool. maybe you can try your luck in ACE? |

lol... i got same problem. but this time the screw is on my hyper 212 cpu cooler, the one philips small head to screw in the mounting kaki to the copper plate touching the cpu (the bottom one)
for that small space, i think if epoxy glue if not careful will lekat all da way around the mounting. and grinder is also no-no... how ah? im really screwed... (pun intended |
