for a beginner, get a rm200-300 guitar should be ok.
i recommend yamaha acoustic F310 which cost about rm350. If you are a serious student, don't ever get a kapok less than rm100. It's very hard to press, especially barre chord. And the sound is real bad. Slowly develop your interest, play for 3 years or more, then upgrade to a better guitar. if u feel like want to play electric, buy a electric guitar. |

First ask yourself if you really are passionate about learning the guitar and if you could really stick with playing it for a very long time. I see some fellas buy expensive axes but leave them in the closet collecting dust after a few months, just because they 'lost interest' or have 'no time to play'.
So if you just want a guitar to satisfy a temporary desire, then you should get the cheap ones (<RM200). But if you are the one who is determined to take your playing to the next level, then invest on something decent and branded (<RM800) that will last you a lifetime if you play it with passion. And for the question on getting an acoustic or an electric, this just depends on the style you want to play. Both have their unique tonal qualities and they are both equally easy to play if you have the right instrument setup and action. |

QUOTE(noxxing @ May 14 2008, 10:19 AM) LOL..we make our fingers sound like little children. We dont play a shred fast enough we look at them and go "You want me to play the acoustic?.....don't make me!...you better bloody behave!now lets try again before daddy gets upset okay?". you had me laughing with this. But yes after playing on the acoustic the electric was such a breeze. back on topic, it all depends on your passion to learn, and the type of music you intend to "specialize" in, so to say. I'd prefer buying a semi-decent electric second hand from this place (hey, i got mine here) and just playing clean, neck pickup, adjusting the tone knob when you want an "acoustic" sound, so to speak. That way, when you want to transition to playing more electric-oriented music (assuming you want to), you wouldn't have to break the bank again to buy more stuff. |
