Environment Awareness Week - Beaconhouse Sri Inai School, Petaling Jaya
23rd - 27th June 2008

A simple yet meaningful event. The junior kids are jolly as usual. Pupils were encouraged to bring along a potted plant to be planted in the school compound. Beside that, there is a competition for junior kids to create a nice useable product from waste materials (such as newspaper, styrofoam, plastic, aluminum can and etc). The kids are CREATIVE!!! A lot of interesting project are submitted including a a bear stuff with newspaper and stich using rag cloth, klcc building from discarded aluminum cans, self watering pot and the list...................

hello to all =)

being a responsible consumer is also a step closer to living in a greener earth. it may seems meaningless to few, but in the vast number of calculation of hundreds and millions, it is the kind way to reduce unnescesary wastage. after all, most of us are unsure where our waste goes, how to dispose waste in much greener way or in what way will the waste affect our eco-system (it may comes back around to the food chain you know).

i'm not sure if it works, but few points to ponder before buys;
1) buy what is need (helps to avoid false demands)
2) splurge on things that is difficult to decompose (i.e food?)
3) be a smart consumer (quality buys)

there could be more, i may have miss out... ^^ cheers~!

visit this blog, is a compilation of environmental on goings ::eco-Logikal::

Just joined forum & noticed thread been stagnant sad.gif
If anyone has any green project going on I hope it will be shared for everyone to participate biggrin.gif

My personal recycling tips:

Separate-
- Glass: Ketchup bottles, honey jars, fruit jam jars, vitamins bottles, beer bottles, wines bottles
- Plastic: Eggs container, contact lenses solutions, ice cream tubs, mineral water bottles, dish & clothes detergen bottles, shampoo bottles
- Paper: Newspaper, receipts, cereal boxes, toothpaste boxes, contact lenses solution boxes, tissue boxes, empty toilet paper roll
Aluminium Cans: Beer, soft drinks

* Of course must rinse glass, plastic or aluminium cans & leave to dry, otherwise they will stink.

rclxms.gif After I accumulate enough volume, I give them away to a scavenger in my neighbourhood. There is also a place near my house buying aluminium cans but I think giving it away is more convenient plus it helps someone.

thumbup.gif + Bring my own shopping bags
Also, I am banning small plastic bags into my household. They can't even be used as rubbish bags!
Only when I forgot to bring my own, then I will unhappily take those big plastic bags from marts.

rolleyes.gif My condo does not have recycling bins so this is my method to help a fellow human being & makes our planet Earth greener. The things we can recycle is nearly everything! Even the veggies scrap I am already thinking to start a compost. So, as a single person you can start to do SOMETHING.
