Ok, the DVD is weird. Using it you can isntall the trial, in which you can use it to activate your game. After that you don't even need the DVD in the drive anymore...
And to think that EA paid so much for the SONY DRM

What's weird of that? Probably they only implement serial check only and no disc check since the official installer is available as download.

Not really. From what I read even pirated keys can be used. The DRM the game uses is the DVD check which checks the DVD everytime you want to run the game A-La grand theft Auto IV, but that would only work if you choose to use the official installer.
Also please add the game to your STEAM app if you have one, as it would make it easier to chat ingame using the STEAM game overlay

As I said earlier, since the installer have trial installation, probably the DVD check is nullified. Who's going to play trial with DVD check anyway?

Err the DRM is for DVD check, and it's not nullified. As I said, it would only work if you choose to install FULL from the DVD, and not the trial.
