Using it you can isntall the trial, in which you can use it to activate your game. After that you don't even need the DVD in the drive anymore... And to think that EA paid so much for the SONY DRM Anyways, my EA account name is linkins

The DRM the game uses is the DVD check which checks the DVD everytime you want to run the game A-La grand theft Auto IV, but that would only work if you choose to use the official installer.
