Don't feel bad ... I applaud you for being realistic/honest in your financial management. rclxms.gif Some people are not and it's worrying if they think cc's are a easy mean to get access to funds quickly. Not realizing and the potential damage that cc debt to one person is very worrying. I've many friends who are like that and they spend months and some years to clear (if they can) their cc debts. The best part is that they get into this mess within 1-3 months of using cc.

We're about to cancel our HSBC card due to crappy points value whistling.gif. Thinking of supp-ing his MBB gold. There are actually a couple of things to think about. Sharing of credit limit, my unability to pay MY expenses through my MBB own account and higher annual fee. Decisions decisions.

@Syd G
I agree that the HSBC is rather "calculative" in terms on points value but they make this up tremendously via their outstanding CS. Well everyone here would agree on this notion at least.

- If you are worried about the higher annual fees for now, may I suggest (this require some discipline) that he pays for everything via his card for now and you can split the bill later when the bill arrives.
- Postpone getting your own card till maybe 6 months down the road where you probably would have settled down better. Probably your initial card could be the CIMB Petronas card which is Free for Life (FOL). I hope the petrol station crisis would be over by then. This would provide you with the necessary financial independence I think. (Again ... I think you would have thought of this better)

Well ... I wish I have a GF with your virtues. tongue.gif

if HSBC is not that calculative.....during the subprime mortgage they already go down with citigroup.....

If you want to quote then quote me properly lah my friend. shakehead.gif My "calculative" remark is referring to their cc's points system not the way they are handing out loans. Plus cc points system is the banks main tool to spur usage and customer retention.

why rhb so late in processing my application for balance transfer?
anybody have the experience? how long usually it takes to process (new card application together with balance transfer plan)?
*
RHB historically has never been fantastic with it's credit card approval turnaround. My previous experience was - 1st time 2 month (Cancelled already several years back) and the 2nd time (4-5 weeks) (Card canceled already)

I suggest you arrange for regular payment and not to hope RHB card to approve quickly.

can i ask if i buying something from uk then pay by card...how will i be charge?

conversion rates + extra charge?

which 1 of these charge the less?

eon cc visa/ citibank cc visa/ mbb cc master amex
thanks

90 pound thing will end up i pay how much?
*
Simple ... whatever you are paying in the foreign currency just convert in back into the local amount based on rates on the transaction date - you can use XE to calculate this amount. This provides you with an indicate amount of the charges. (The actual conversion rates are set by Mastercard/VISA international, so they may be slight variation from XE's rates)

Just add on the additional charges and there you go. Check out the 1st post for details on the additional charges for overseas transaction + which bank/card is better @ this.

oh so it is base on the rate on day of transaction...

there r still surcharge rite?
*
There's 2 dates to look @ if you were to refer to your bill. Transaction date & posted date - I suspect the calculations is based on the posted date rather than the transaction date but I'm not sure about this. Posted date is more often than not - a few days later than the transaction date.

Emmm ... miss out that one. Still it's not free for life. Our friend is looking for both Syariah Compliant & Free For Life. I'm quite sure such card does not exist - at least not having both features.

Any MBF card holder,

Want to ask how you guys settled MBF CC bill? Using Interbank Fund Transfer?
*
Or pay using your CIMB account - no interbank transfer fees incurred. Don't be surprised David83 - there was a time where you can't use your AMBank account to pay for your MBF card although AMBank already own MBF at that point of time.

However, I sense that AMBank is treating MBF like a stepson coz back then my CL need to be approved by AMBank (weird huh?) for my MBF cc. Unfortunately for AMBank, MBF cc is the more well known brand than the AMBank cc. MBF got additional charges for overseas use (I think 2%) and CS was bad - my primary reasons for canceling this card back then.

This card attracts an annual fee of over RM800 for principle and RM400 for supplementary. I don't it's your normal Platinum card ... perhaps something on the same level as the HSBC Premier.

They are using EMV already. Actually EMV is already requirement for all merchants in the Asia Pacific for quite sometime already.

Well ... to those wanting to apply the SCB VISA Infinite. I think the biggest drawback (if you qualify income wise) ... the card does not have a 1st free offer, immediately it'll attract the RM 800 annual fee.

(And that lucky applicant would have to pay for it)

I don't want to sound rude or what but this question has been asked like every other week or so and by soooo many people. shakehead.gif Please read the threads on the discussions on the many cards in the market and probably we should consider ignoring those who ask these type of question again ? hmm.gif Clearly it's a just a shortcut question not wanting to read all that have been posted here. It's a long thread but the general answers is available in the 1st page already and it's not a good excuse if lazy to read.

If the questions were more specific then it's a different story ....

Me too ... never got the promised gift. (The first time, I had to kick a huge fuss but I got the gift after a wait of 8-12 months)

The second encounter with HSBC was no different but the only consolidation is that the sales person offered me another gift (which he personally gave) out of goodwill. Of all the good things that has been said about HSBC, this is probably the only weak (and very visible) aspect that upsets the customers.

(I hope someone from HSBC reads this)

If they wanted to probably they would have done so. I think they have the consumer support for Isetan thus no problem. It's something like Robinson's with OCBC card.

@Syd G,
I don't think U can blame the airlines for the fuel surcharges though admittedly I don't like the idea of it *sigh*  Also, I find it ridiculous that it's so high.  Apparently fuel charges + airport taxes + administrative charges for a flight to Hokkaido is RM1400!!!!!
*
I can vouch for that .... cry.gif
