QUOTE Captain America Will Fight Nazis ![]() We’ve just updated our Upcoming Movies section with a plot synopsis for The First Avenger: Captain America, as provided by Production Weekly. The synopsis reveals some interesting things about Marvel’s plans for Cap. It looks like the movie will be a period piece, not a modern updating of Captain America’s origins. Or at the very least, we’re going to spend a significant amount of time watching Steve Rogers before and during World War II. Full plot breakdown: Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe,Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy's earnest plea,General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment... Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the Super-Solider Serum and bombarded by "vita-rays." Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later,he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America has continued hiswar against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and as leader of the Avengers. Doing it as a period piece sort of makes sense, when you consider the odd “First Avenger” title and the fact that the actual The Avengers team-up movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters only a couple of months after Captain America’s solo movie debuts. The First Avenger hits theaters on May 6th, while The Avengers arrives on July 15th. Captain America vs Hitler !!! Winner = Hitler This post has been edited by Calvin871989: Oct 5 2008, 08:35 PM |

In my mind, the one blonde + good actor that would be good as Cap is Daniel Craig (Bond).

QUOTE(JonSpark @ Nov 11 2008, 12:03 PM) lol jonspark http://www.cinematical.com/2008/11/18/does...aptain-america/ QUOTE Does Channing Tatum Want to Play Captain America? ![]() Last week, I had the chance to visit the set of Dear John, Lasse Hallström's adaptation of Nicholas' Sparks heartbreaking novel. I'll get to tell you all about the visit and the movie at a later date, so keep an eye out. In the meantime, though, I thought I'd tease fandom with a Captain America soundbite. While talking to the film's leading man, Channing Tatum, I couldn't resist asking him if he'd play the First Avenger, mentioning that at least one reader had nominated him for the part last week. Surprisingly, that reader isn't the first one to think of him for the part -- a crew member tried to soften him up, too! Here's his unvarnished response: "Captain America? Oh my God! Oddly enough, I just got given a book – one of the painters came up and here gave me a book. I would think about it. Maybe it's destiny! I would definitely think about it – I just got done doing G.I. Joe, though. If Joe does well, and it doesn't seem to be the exact same story, then I would. I don't know. They seem to be very, very similar – almost identical. Except for the – I think he takes a serum? Like a strength serum? [But the WWII setting] could be very very cool. " So, there you have it. Tatum is definitely a bit reluctant to jump into the All American Hero mold again -- but it is Captain America, which is a pretty tempting superhero for any actor to play. I'll freely admit a bit of bias in saying that Tatum has risen on my personal "Who should play Cap?" list, because he certainly has the right personal qualities. He's a genuine, stand-up guy -- there's a reason Hollywood is itching to have him play in uniform so often. And hey, there's worse things than being typecast as the heroic soldier! |

QUOTE 'Captain America' enlists two scribes Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely in negotiations ![]() Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are in negotiations to pen Marvel Studios' "First Avenger: Captain America." The dealmaking occurs about a week after Joe Johnston boarded the project as director. Marvel's Kevin Feige is producing. Created in 1941 by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon for Timely Comics, Captain America is the heroic alter ego of Steve Rogers, who is rejected by the Army for being too sickly and undergoes an experiment that takes him to the pinnacle of human form. Paired with an indestructible shield, he becomes a symbol of the war effort, fighting Nazis and villainous scientists like the Red Skull. In modern times, the character starred in his own long-running comic series and also was a charter member of Marvel's superteam, the Avengers. Kicking off with "Iron Man," Marvel Studios' slate of movies -- including "Thor" and the "Iron Man" sequel -- is building toward an "Avengers" movie set for release in 2011, in which the characters from the films team for one big adventure. "Captain America" is scheduled for release May 6, 2011. Marvel's "Captain America" will be a World War II-set movie, and the character will appear in the modern day-set "Avengers." Markus and McFeely, repped by UTA, worked on "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and its sequel, "Prince Caspian." The duo also wrote HBO's "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers." |

i think its cool that they have a caps movie.. the old one was really cheezy .. but then again .. its a hero movie.
IMO i guess this type of hero where he has no SUPERpower is the fact that he Can actually die.. has more human appeal.. |

QUOTE CapAm starts in June ![]() I’m growing increasingly puzzled about the lack of any info about the CAPTAIN AMERICA movie, allegedly slated to come out just after THOR in 2011. THOR has everyone down to Valhalla’s gardeners cast at this point, whereas CAPTAIN doesn’t even have the title role filled. Or even really RUMORS of having the title role filled. But one tiny morsel of information came loose during director Joe Johnston’s interview with Fangoria. "… recalls Johnston, speaking from the art department of The First Avenger: Captain America, which he's readying for a June start." Hooray! A start date! For reference, THOR starts shooting in January, but as I said, it’s got a full script and cast where CAPTAIN AMERICA is presumably still working up a list of all the blonde actors in Hollywood. Hopefully we’ll start hearing more about this soon, otherwise I feel like we’re definitely going to see the project being pushed back. Extra Tidbit: I’m curious to see how they’re going to choreograph shield-centric fight scenes |

QUOTE Don't screw up the Captain America movie Over the last ten years, nearly every comic book icon has leapt from the four-color page to the silver screen. From Superman to Elektra and from Spider-Man to (ugh) Catwoman, there are few left to make the transition—and the list is about to get smaller. Hot on the heels of the uber-successful film debut of the armored avenger in “Iron Man,” Marvel Studios revealed their plans to create a Marvel filmiverse centered on the Avengers and announced dates for “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” and “Captain America.” Perhaps that last true icon of the industry never successfully adapted outside the printed page, Captain America may be one of, if not, the most important character in modern storytelling. And that makes it all so much easier to screw up. As more and more hands get involved from other media, directors, screenwriters, producers, studio executives, and the like, the potential for error rises exponentially. Hell, it’s almost expected. |
