Leonardo DiCaprio Interested to Become Steve Rogers



His name, if you haven’t figured it out already from the headline, is Leonardo DiCaprio. And though they are very quick to point out that Leo is on the wish list and that no offer has been made, our sneaky Latin friends are sure that DiCaprio is the man that Marvel would most like to see pick up the shield of Captain America — which he appears to have left on Tony Stark’s workbench.

This would certainly make for an interesting development for Marvel, seeing as previous rumors have put the likes of Matthew McConaughey and Brad Pitt on their Captain America shortlist as well. And while DiCaprio certainly has the dramatic chops to give Steve Rogers some depth, he has never done big, muscle-bound action in the past. Then again, for those who ran out and saw The Incredible Hulk this afternoon, you will notice that the “super soldier serum” can make even the likes of Tim Roth fight like a badass.

SDCC: Torchwood Star Up for Captain America?

John Barrowman, the star of "Torchwood," was just asked moments ago at the San Diego Comic-Con panel if there was any possibility that he would be playing Captain America in the upcoming feature film.

He smiled and gave the stock answer that he'd love to play the character and that Captain America has always been his favorite comic book superhero. Clearly, though, the notion did not take him by surprise and he ended up admitting there had been discussions with his agents and meetings on that very issue.

What do you think? Though maybe not the star-power that the studio might be looking for, Barrowman certainly fits the bill. We'll bring you more news as it develops.

Don't screw up the Captain America movie

Over the last ten years, nearly every comic book icon has leapt from the four-color page to the silver screen. From Superman to Elektra and from Spider-Man to (ugh) Catwoman, there are few left to make the transition—and the list is about to get smaller.

Hot on the heels of the uber-successful film debut of the armored avenger in “Iron Man,” Marvel Studios revealed their plans to create a Marvel filmiverse centered on the Avengers and announced dates for “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” and “Captain America.”

Perhaps that last true icon of the industry never successfully adapted outside the printed page, Captain America may be one of, if not, the most important character in modern storytelling.
And that makes it all so much easier to screw up.

As more and more hands get involved from other media, directors, screenwriters, producers, studio executives, and the like, the potential for error rises exponentially.

Hell, it’s almost expected.

Dominic Cooper to Play Howard Stark in Captain America

SuperHeroHype (via Salon.com) is reporting that Dominic Cooper will play a younger version of Howard Stark in Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger. Howard Stark was played by John Slattery in Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2, but "Captain America" will take place during World War II, which was 30 years earlier than the 1974 Stark Expo.
