just saw the preview screening organised by maybank last night. the movie was entertaining, but lacks behind thor and iron man imo.
bits i loved about it: 1. skinny steve rogers. the cgi is just so seamless... i really wanna know how they pulled it off. apparently no body double was used. absolutely amazing. 2. the buildup to steve's transformation. 3. tommy lee jones. he has all the funny lines 4. red skull. hugo weaving plays him wit a menacing glee tat is very fun to watch. 5. TIES IN NICELY TO AVENGERS. OMGWTFBBQFISHSAUCE CANT WAIT FOR JUNE NEXT YEAR! bits i found lacklustre: 1. the fight scenes. i found em to be a bit cartoonish (caps managed to infiltrate a weapons base all by himself??), and the hydra soldiers were every bit as incompetent as stormtroopers. 2. the second half of the movie kinda dragged a bit... bucky's subplot was handled very abruptly. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « remember to stay after the credits for the avengers teaser! |

Captain America (2011)
And the first prize goes to... What a year. 4 comic superheroes movies in 1 year. There was X-Men First Class (Marvel) Then Thor (Marvel) After that one Green Lantern (DC) And now Captain America (Marvel) It is good. It is VERY good. It is my believe, this would be closest Marvel would get, in successfully fleshing out one of their character compared to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. (Spiderman doesn't count. That character is licensed out to Sony) Chris Evan sold the idea of Captain America You'll never even think "Hey, Johnny Storm!" while watching this movie. World War II was depicted believable. I love the designs for Schmidt's war machines I REALLY love Hayley Atwell, she sold femininity, period!!! Dr. Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) is BRILLIANT!!! Seriously. Hugo Weaving can just about BE anything he wants to be (Elf, Super Hero, NASTY COMPUTER PROGRAM!!!). Everything in this movie clicked Even the bit players Yes, please stay to the end (After End Credits). You WON'T be sorry Go watch it. Go WATCH it. Did I mention, that you should WATCH THIS!!!! For the record Captain America: The First Avenger No. 1 X-Men: First Class No. 2 Thor No. 3 Green Lantern No. 4 Poor job DC, REALLY POOR JOB!!!! Seen Cap A thanks to Lowyat screening.
The movie was surprisingly quite good. Although the villain looks a bit... Plastic? Anyway, thumbs up from me. 4.5/5 Dont forget to stay after credit. You dint just get a secret scene, you also gets one hell of a teaser trailer. |

Having never read the comics or whatever, I wanted to watch this ever since I saw the trailer. Looks like a very silly fun time at the movies... and it's set during WWII, can't think of a superhero movie set in that period. Having Nazis as bad guys is always a plus. That and I like Chris Evans.
Really liking Alan Silvestri's score too. Old fashioned muscular orchestra. Sounds much better than all the other rubbish action scores being churned out nowadays. This post has been edited by QuickFire: Jul 28 2011, 09:54 PM |
