I'm a student, I save around 1k a year the most, I would like to know, where should I 'dump' this money in, FD? If FD, where or which is the best bank can offer.

What's the purpose of your savings? FD can be a good place to put in some of your emergency fund but definitely not meant for long term savings (such as retirement funds). If you're looking for a mid to long term saving, why not trying to invest in Unit Trust? Dollar cost averaging will help you to minimize the risk as well. Unit trust may not be the best investment for experienced investors but for those who has little or no experience to invest, a managed investment is a wiser choice.

Hi:

Why not going for Unit Trust? Since your expected return isn't too high there's quite a number of funds can fulfill your target. However, unit trust is a mid-term to long-term investment. It's safer to give the investment 3 to 5 years of time to reach your target of return.

ING Funds Berhad offers an actively managed portfolio which is called ING AMP Plus 2. The entry cost is the lowest in the unit trust industry. Moreover, the regular investment strategy is potentially reduces the market entry cost without have to time the market. Some more, a portfolio manager will be responsible for selecting, rebalancing & managing the funds to boost performance.
