World markets sank Friday as concerns mounted over the possibility of further bailouts for debt-laden European nations and tensions escalated between North and South Korea following a brief military clash.

Numerous studies have shown that mutual funds overseen by professional stock pickers often are outperformed by computer-driven index funds.

"The edge is hugely exaggerated," says Richard Ferri, founder of the investment advisory firm Portfolio Solutions and an advocate of low-cost index funds. "If the small investor does the right thing, he can do better than 99 percent of anyone else."

Can we consider trying Forex Trading as an investment?

What if, i ask somebody who is expert in Forex Trading to trade for me & we divide the profit 55%-45%

Is that fair for me?

I'm not sure if this being discussed before, just some input for those who still fresh to invest in fund, you can either invest in Public Mutual (which will cost you 5.5% of fees upon every top up), or invest in FundSuperMart (which cost you 2% of the fees).

Fund Investment is for long term plan (3-5 years), not fast money like invest in share. And it's advisable to invest consistently (like invest RM300 every month) to apply the Dollar-Cost Averaging strategy to get a better return. Info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dollar_cost_averaging

hi all

i'm 24 this yr. already have 5k++ for rainy days usage and have 300 for alternative investment plans. i'm still flip flopping between UT and FD. Basically i lean more towards starting on UT right away. Dollar cost averaging with public mutual. However, i have friends who are telling me to go for FD first to get a larger sum of money.

also, for FD, is there anywhere i can learn more about foreign currrency FD?

no idea about bolehland, but I like to sift through data & luv doing it lust.gif in the beginning its hard sweat work, now its kinda of a breeze
while investing passively with unit trust, inv link, pnb & etc. look at what they purchase & follow them after doing your own due diligence flex.gif
for usa, I can see a summary of what institutions do as they need to report their buy & sales bruce.gif
they r gigantic & it takes them months to accumulate & distribute their positions. as ikan bilis investors, we r not bound by that rigidity cool2.gif

Hard to say, on LYN some people get rich real quick... smile.gif

Most UTs require a minimum of 1K as initial lump sum investment, and a minimum of 500 for initial regular investment. The odd one or two has a minimum of 100. So that effectively rules out UT for you.

Foreign currency FD require a minimum of the equivalent of 10K. So you are pretty much left with normal FD, for now.

If the interest rate for 1 month is the same as 3 month, might as well go for 1 month, auto renewal insurance, that way your interest will earn interest as well, and will be higher than a lump sum 3 month FD, not to mention better flexibility too.  rclxms.gif

One good thing abt Maybank FD.
You can do it online and have the FD auto deposited into your account after the end of term.
Other banks requires one to physically go to the branch to withdraw the deposite (if one did not choose for auto renewal).

CIMB also have their Unit Trust, if not mistaken the charges is about 2%, half of public mutual. Try have a look/research on their fund if interested.

Is there any difference between online FD with normal FD?
For example, normal FD will get a certificate when you register it
For online FD, do we will receive the same certificate?
