I want to know how much it cost and everything. I also learned that MAS or SIA can pay for your courses and work for them later on. For this, how many A's must I score in SPM. Just want to know and thanks for the help

One my friend is studying pilot in Kelantan. I don't know why Kelantan. There's another one in Langkawi too I heard.
And yea, you have to be at least 165cm tall.
I think for english, you must definitely get an A.
Others I am not sure. Sorry.

All the best.

Costs ~200k IINM. For MAS/SIA's you gotta check out for their cadetship intake. Should be found it their websites.

physics maths english add maths all get A1
then active in co-curricular activities..

with these qualifications u can easily get into their admission tests..
which mostly and usually consist of IQ test, math and physics test, coordination test, interview, etc... pass all and make a remarkable impression during the interview, u'll probably get accepted in their cadet pilot programme...

I am not a pilot, but i am an aspiring pilot, i know alot about piloting, so i hope my answer will be able to help you..

It seems that you have "lazy eyes", right? ur Right power 400, Left 50.. it would be better for you to enquire DCA approved hospitals / clinics personally, after all, a first class medical cert is what u need in the end to be a commercial airline pilot.. It doesn't matter how bad your eyesight is , or how high ur power is, as long as it's 6/60 ( u can only look at things that are 6 meter away from u when others can look at the same things at 60 meters away )

You plan to self pay? or to join airlines' cadet pilot programmes?
I would personally suggest cadet pilot programme, as you don't have to worry about ur financial problem, as it is paid by the airlines.. After you have completed ur training, then u are automaticially bonded with them ( which mean a job is automatically secured ), and they will deduct the training fees slowly from ur salary...

If you want to choose the "self-pay route", it is very very expensive... To get a ATPL ( Airline transport pilot license ), you wil need around RM 250k...
Personally, i would suggest MFA ( malaysia flying academy ), as you can find most Air Asia and Malaysia Airlines cadet pilots traning there..

I hope my answers help.. feel free to ask me anything about piloting, coz i've done alot alot alot of researches about it.. smile.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

my suggestion would be to check out mas and airasia pilot training program or sometin(more info on the site i believe). my friend went through the mas interview and got in the program. but mind you, even if u get through, the provess isnt easy as there are a lot of applicants for a few spaces apparently. and u gotta study up on stuff.

theres a forum somewhere on this, will ask my friend and paste the link here later.

my fren said if u personal one, the road to become pilot much much harder..
graduated from academy means u still a cadet..not a pilot yet..
mas / airasia cadet will continue with boeing international flite while private student
have hard time to be recruit by any airlines since u = no experience = fly fokker sweat.gif

mas / airasia cadet will have 15 years contract = jobs secure abit..
then finish contract, go emirates airlines .. u will get citizen status hospitality..
-free education
-free medical
-super salary

this all my fren batch intend to do doh.gif

phillipines?

i think it will be more expensive.

because, you have to cover your living cost as well.

better study locally, or, get another job. work your own money, then do pilot with your saving.

just wait for the cadet opening and do something else in the meantime.
unless u r desperate/would die to become a pilot, become private candidate..

btw its not like u pay & straight away start school like unis/colleges. because it takes time to enroll into flying schools due to lots of procedures (get approval from DCA, queuing to enroll) etc . so lots of waiting..

but with effort, patience, time you'll be able to get there.

Hey, if u got inuf cash a then u better do it privately bro. To get into MH or AK cadet program is not easy dude.. Hell lot of test all u need to go true all. Go become a private cadet if u can afford. My frens aslo became cadets for MH and got few joint AK. I was lucky become a private cadet.. Lucky my dad could afford it.. But becoming a private aslo not easy bro.. Last time i paid RM30k to book a seat woo.. then pay 50k. then following months all they ask my dad to pay 30k every 2 to 3 months. And there are no difficulty getting a job for pilot ( But for sure will be hard to get into the top class one la =p)

The best is go to DCA and ask. It will be easy for u. they will advice u what to do all. The link http://www.dca.gov.my/main.php

ps If u want papers help u to pass ur exam papers all then join MFA. U get alot of margup papers there.. Will help u to pass ur ground papers. Enjoy flying.

MH = Malaysia Airline
AK = Air Asia

'too much pilot' depends on situation. MH & AK are buying new aircrafts so they're gonna need new pilots for the future, plus to cover for the ones who retire & change to other airlines..

The chances i would say not that hard la and not not that easy. U can try becoming a sponsored cadet also but really hard proses u need to go tru. If u do privately and then get into MAS or AK after u clock in 1500 hrs and become a FO then u can try the major airlines also if u want. Become a sponsored cadet then u must stick with the bond until u finish paying all only then u can go other airlines. Every way also bro susah abit. Nothing comes easy in this world dude. Consider everything first before u make up ur mind. Once again i advice u to talk to DCA. If u planing to get into major airlines then do privately easy and fast. But if u dont mind about the bond, then better u become a sponsored cadet.

Yeah... Try searching for the information for the cadet pilot intake through the airline website. I MAS or SIA will be very good one!

MAS cadet pilot selection take a long time.. While SIA is very fast...

For SIA, you can go to singaporeair.com and you can actually apply online.

It is advisable to apply for cadet programs offered by major airlines instead of taking the course privately.

Why?
Well my eldest bro and one of my sis is a pilot. And from my experience and what they have told me, it will be harder to find a job for those who take the course privately because the airlines already have their cadet training programs with cadets bonded to them, so why would they need you? =]

yeah...this is the main problem which faced by private cadet pilot..

before this i was planning to be a private cadet pilot as well, a lot of encouragement and discouragement came to me...there's advantages and disadvantages of being a private cadet and sponsored cadet. Being a private cadet....u dont need to go through all sorts of interviews which might slow down your steps....but u got to bear the risk of being jobless, which is kinda high. Unless u're very very rich...otherwise it's highly recommended to join cadet pilot program.

I just called MAS HR centre 2 weeks ago, from what i heard, although it's now past the intake's deadline, the cadet pilot program is still receiving application from people, just the chances of being chosen is low. I believe there's another intake on next year when the result of SPM result releases. And hopefully MAS wont stop the cadet pilot program due to expensive fuel price.

Hasyir, may i know currently u're in which flying school..? Thx biggrin.gif

if u have the dreams of getting into aviation field, just go ahead with it.

HEARD that Mas will be doing cadet pilot intake for next year too, dont miss it.

Well, imo, it's not suggested to study it privately.

For me, i'm currently doing pre-u, and going to pursue an engineering degree afterward, at the same time, will be trying to apply to cadetship as well. Heard MAS HR Dept is really slow. If u already had the degree, u can always consider going to SIA, or with a A'levels perhaps.

haha..believed that u had done a lot of researches since u open this thread....no worry bro, do well in ur SPM will guarantee ur 1st step.

I'm going for private, Sydney Flight Training Centre. 49,500AUD for the course, 10 months nia. Then back in M'sia do the conversion and there goes another 70~90K RM, which gonna take about another 6~8 months. Gonna start next week biggrin.gif

IMHO, private =/= hard to find job. In the end it all depends on your result and the job demand. And don't just focus on the airline companies, there're many more job choices like those courier company (eg DHL etc etc). Just don't be too picky when you just graduate and looking for the first job. Get your flight hours and experience, then only think of switching to a better pay company.

P.S. Found out that the total cost of private doing locally and doing it in Australia not much difference except the living expenses.

Agreed with you. Almost or ALL the flying school are costing RM200k or more. But living expenses in Aus is seriosly higher than Maalaysia a hell lot. End up u'll be spending RM100k more for living expenses, air ticket, and stuffs.

Yea, flying hours and rating is really contributing to a pilot's career.

May i know how much is the pay from DHL, Fedex, Transmile etc?

It's up to oneself how much you love the profession and its duty. About the oil depletion, once you're an airline pilot.. you are paid for your service (fly the aircraft) and the passangers pay for the airfares (means you dont have to worry about paying the aircraft fuel because you're the one who get paid). Future of an airline pilot seems to be very bright since the aviation industry are widely expanding nowadays.. Future of a Wannabe/student/Fresh graduate Pilot maybe no so bright until you become a Commercial/Airline Pilot.

I wanted to do piloting but after a while that dream seem to be a distant future for me. Now I'm getting a Mechanical Eng. degree first before I do any flying( added advantage with a degree).
Also problem is that if you go to school overseas, you dont get to work there as a cadet unless some company absorb you into cadetship, so 200K and end up in MAS(that is if they are recruiting) or Air Asia.
Dont get me wrong this two companies are superb just that might as well do it locally.
Idk much but I heard MAS usually take in people with ATPL(frozen)but idk the conditions and all. Use to refer to askcaptainlim.com but now the site seems to be closed.
Also best you ask a MAS pilot or those in the cadetship programme or even pilots for more details.
BUT everyone(pilots to engineers) tell me that they need people in the aviation industry, lots of them so prospects are there. Anyways gl.

Added on October 17, 2008, 12:57 pmand by the way, there is plenty of job opportunity for pilot out there if you are not picky to choose the company.

MAS cadet program is kinda hard to go through ,sometime is depends on luck and most importantly if you're bumiputera then of course everything is easier than other races(in this DAMN country)!... icon_rolleyes.gif

For MAS cadet pilot, you must meet the 6/60 requirement. Which means that you can see the biggest word on the snellen's chart without your glasses. My vision is about 175 left and right and I have no problems getting my class 1 medical.

MAS cadet take spm, SIA take A levels xD... If you didn't make it to the cadet program or cannot afford to go private. You could at least look into the option of going to the RMAF. Once you complete the bond with them, you can try joining commercial airlines. I think imo its easier to go to a commercial airlines from military. But one thing getting into RMAF is not that easy either.

Do you want to be trained as a Pilot by the government? All sponsored course and the government even pays you to be trained?

Then I suggest you to join the Royal Malaysian Airforce. They want you~

Hell.. you will be able to fly all kinds for Jet fighters, Helicopters, Airplanes in the Airforce disposal.

even thought u score all A also not easy to get in cadet pilot.. nowadays MAs and Air asia having quite number of their own trainee.. my fren who score for 6A also not eligible to get for the cadet pilot ship.. now what u can do is money.. u need money to apply for flying school .you need to undergo your ground school training and collect your flying hours...currently there is a few flying school you can rely on just like MFA(malacca), kelantan flying school, langkawi, sarawak etc..

Please do not get the wrong impression that a CPL/IR gurantees you a flying job.

Sadly, it doesn't.

There are a lot of MAS cadets who didn't score straight A's. Some only have 1 A, some 2 A.

scoring a lot of A's doesn't mean one is fit to be a pilot.
(Advise : for those who did not pass it on the first try, keep trying. Many of the MAS cadets got in after 2nd or 3rd try)

For Self-Sponsorship route(those who pay rm250k and enter local flying school),

Once you have your CPL/IR, it doesn't gurantee you a job. you still have to apply for jobs, and compete against other candidates who also has CPL/IR.

so there's no gurantees.

MAS froze their cadet intakes i heard.
even so,many ppl pull strings to get in.
so if you have no connection, little chance of getting into mas cadet programme.

most important requirement is actually the psychomotor test.
results meet min requirement can already.

There are many factors that can affect the chances of 1 getting a job.

1. TIMING - this is probably the most important factor.

When one graduates is really important. For example, airlines around the world is losing money right now. For those people who has or will graduate this year, it will be really difficult to get a job. No Demand = No Job.

2. Flying School Results

Having a good resume and results will probably earn you a place for Entry-Tests / Interviews. Doesn't gurantee a job, but increases your chances of getting one.

3. Aptitude / Personality

During interviews, the Interviewers will pressure each and every candidate(by all means - except physically la) while asking them questions related to aviation and personal life. AT THIS STAGE, the Interviewers will observe you while you're answering their questions(under immense pressure).

do laser treatment la ...

btw, unless u have rich daddy, cadet sponsorship is always better ...
but u need at least get middle upper result and very good attitude/personality to be sponsored by airline ...

in other words, understand the psychometric test and get used with interviewing ...
