Vodafone announced they have signed an agreement with Apple to sell the controversial handset in as many as 10 countries where Voda have coverage. Those countries include Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey.

No word on Spain yet - one the few large European countries that are still not getting an official carrier for the iPhone. May be it's not Vodafone that's going to offer the iPhone there.

You've probably already heard that Canada will also be having the iPhone through Rogers - so this all sounds like a major expansion for the device is being planned out.

As major as this news is, it took the Vodafone PR team not one but a total of two sentences to announce the news - no specifics about a release date or pricing are available yet.

Our guess is - we will get more info once the rumored 3G iPhone is finally announced in mid-June 2008.
I know what you guys are thinking, not another iPhone/3G iPhone topic... But think properly... Celcom has ties with Vodafone... And they almost always bring in good mobile phones (Blackberry for example) to Malaysia and market it as Celcom-Vodafone... I have a strong feeling Celcom will bring in the iPhone to Malaysia as part of being a Vodafone partner...

Which could then lead to the 3G iPhone... Sorry, I had to mention 3G iPhone, i just had to!

Well there's very big possibilities that Apple wont tie contracts on their iphones with telecommunication companies.

The interesting thing here is, not all of the countries listed in the 10 have Apple stores/iTunes, and yet, the iPhone will be launched there. So, this pretty much debunks the idea that iTunes support is a prerequisite for the iPhone to be launched in a specific country.

Of course, this may mean that they're also launching the dedicated iTunes store together with the iPhone. Regardless, this may mean that there is hope after all for an official launch in Malaysia. Although, I'm not so sure it's great news for current iPhone users. I mean, it's really not as if everyone's gonna upgrade to the new 3G iPhone and even if they do, they might not want to be tied down to a contract.

The only good that will come out of an official launch in Malaysia is at least there would be hardware support. Of course, the US imported iPhones' warranties are not valid but having the option to pay for repairs is better than none at all!!
