Hi all, my fren is flying back from the US, and was thinking of getting one of this docks from US...question is, can we use it here I know the socket is different, but if we just buy an adapter, will that work? http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores...552921665197369

QUOTE(ff8ong @ May 6 2008, 12:01 AM) should be ok.because ipod and iphone come with same 30pin connector. not necessarily. it is a known fact that ipods and iphones do not run on the same voltage (assuming the sony speaker dock does have a built-in self current alternator) i quote an example from a dude in a local mac forum; he placed his iphone on a speaker designed for ipods (brand withheld for obvious reasons) and his iphone literally 'blew off'. as a result of that, he cannot even turn it on now. sad but true. of course, i have not experienced it myself and will therefore keep any sorts of biased judgments to myself. but IMHO, i will choose to believe his story as there are logical explanations to support his claim. its best that you purchase a speaker with an external auxillary 3.5mm audio jack. less of a cool effect, yes but chances of short circuiting of your beloved iphone, no. The voltage is different, need a power converter/transformer (whatever it's called).
But did you want to use that with an iPhone or with an iPod? From what I see, it's for an iPod.

I'm not misquoting anyone, I'm just not too sure if he wants this for an iPhone or for an iPod.
If it's for an iPod then all he needs is a power converter/transformer thingy but if for iPhone then what you say is true. And also if it's not for an iPhone, this thread shouldn't be here!

Yes, I saw the title and I saw the link but his question wasn't 'Can it be used with an iPhone?'. It was simply 'Can this be used here?'. That's why I asked in post #4 if he wanted to use this with an iPhone or an iPod.
If first question, the your answer is correct. If second question, then all he needs is a converter/transformer.
There's really no need to get hostile. I wasn't trying to misquote you or anything.

Isn't all newer ipods runs 5v 1Amp? I used Hewlett Packard PDA charger to charge both my ipod nano & iphone, since it has the same specification with the regular ipod charger.
Since it's compatible with iPod classic, plugging in the iPhone shouldn't be a problem.

hey all,
This dock can be used if you are in Ipod mode. My fren has tested this in the US and confirm it can work.
my question is simply whether we can use the dock here (ie connect to our power socket), as you know, the electrical voltages are different.
Plugging in your iphone to a dock designed for ipod will cause ur iphone to blow up?! Can you pls share the brand so that we know when not to plugl.

Iphone will changed to Airplane mode when docked with Ipod docks on some models. The main worry here is the signal interference when there are calls coming in. There are only 2 proven docks that works with Iphone which are Altec Lansing T612 and JBL On Stage.
