QUOTE(bonai @ Jun 21 2008, 12:41 AM) i read about this somewhere (which i'm too lazy to recall where and search for it again.. What I meant actually is whether Peru,Abby, normal fur, sheltie are under the same genus and species name i.e are their scientific names the same?Peruvians, Abbys, normal fur, sheltie are breeds.. If it turn out to have different colours then it's a variation.. Same goes to human.. we got black, white, sawo matang and all sort of, same breed! mat salleh, watsup nigga, melayu, india, cina.. sorry if the info is wrong but i truly read about this before.. each type are different breeds... but they can mix.. |

I do not have guinea pigs. These things just pop up in my mind and I was browsing through this forum at the moment so don't flame me for not researching. If I have guinea pigs and still needed to be spoon-fed, I understand that it's wrong.
I was confused because their scientific name is the same which is Cavia Porcellus, which means same genus (Cavia) and same species(Porcellus). I was always under the impression that breed equates to species, hence the misunderstanding. Take hamsters for example, you have Syrians, Robos, RC and WWs which all have different scientific names and are all totally different species. What I thought was for example, Syrian = Normal coat, Robo = peru, RC = sheltie, WW = abby. Now I know that guinea pigs are of the same species, just different breeds. I was confused between 'breeds' and 'species'. My apologies and thanks for your enlightenment. |

Thanks for answering Jamien. What's the best recommended cage for GPs?
zoo zone? or those wire bottom cage, like the one pet shack using to house their GP... i know wire bottom is not good for their paws but u can put the rubber thing like wat pet shack do rite? which is better? |

I think I'll aim for the guinea pig starter kit from pet shack/jtl.
any tips on how to toilet train etc. and do u know of any breeders? i, for one, dislike purchasing pets from pet shops. |

QUOTE(sharil_routh @ Jun 28 2008, 07:25 AM) Hai liette and welcome.... Ahh, remember the small boy that ask u what's a sugar glider rofl. I'm him. Jamien explained ur questions... she's a good teacher if u wanna ask. Yup i'm the one with glider, Can i know which one are u? Pet shack hav 2 GP left.... both male.. if u plan to keep one , male is good. But if plan to keep 2 GP, two female the best. But be careful keep male and female, scare the female will pregnant in early age and dis can coz problem. And if u hav any questions, come... lepak2 at this thread... we always here. No la, im the guy with him.. btw, mind to elaborate on why keeping one, male is better and not female? female more prone to loneliness ? i understand that 2 males might fight tho.
