my budget is around RM700 and less. I am thinking of VOX ad15vt or any cheap one. I heard you can get that for 600++. mesa is too expensive.

my current setup is gt-6, ibanez at300(borrow from a friend), xotic bb preamp. right now i m using really cheap amp...

btw, I am trying to get andy timmons tone but dunno how...

Agree. Get your own guitar first.
BTW, a Full Tube amp is around 5k+ for a good 30w. I'm talking about branded amps that you can get HERE. If you want something hand built (Ceriatone recommended) or a no name brand (Smarvo comes to mind), it's cheaper...... but you're going to cough up ALOT for a full tube amp. I paid over 6k for my full tube 60w JCM2000 TSL602 combo.

A Vox Valvetronix or the Marshall Valvestate are semi tube amps, meaning they use tubes only in the pre-amps, and not the power amp stage. It's CLOSE to the full-tube, but it'll never be able to get that "full" tone of a Full Tube amp. I'm not saying that they are bad however. On the contrary, the valvetronix line sounds amazing and highly recommended for rockers on a budget. But it's just not a full tube amp like what you're looking for.

BUT, there is a saving grace. There's a tiny but powerful Kustom Tube amp that goes for around RM700 (Everdying, help me out with the model?) that sounds great. It's a practice amp, but it delivers that tube-like tone. Also, for around the same price range, there's the Ibanez Valbee mini tube amp. Sounds good also.

kustom 12A = 600? wow, almost twice the price from this website

http://www.music123.com/Kustom-Tube-12A-Pr...145535.Music123

I can just buy one here in us but i dunno how to bring it to malaysia.. i dunno whether it is better to ship it or just buy one in malaysia.

I want to bring it inside the airplane but already got two luggages, one hand luggage, one laptop bag. I dont have many things to bring back, but I assume the amp itself wont fit inside my luggage.

Any other practice amps that sounds good? I am looking for something that sounds like jazzy, bluesy, not too metal

Dont forget..... if you're buying an amplifier in the US, you'll have to convert it to accept our malaysian power voltage.
Otherwise.......

With the only exception to the hand built 5 watter from Sabah, bout rm800

@TS
Andy uses his AT100 and AT300 into a Boogie Dual Rectifier, with a moderate gain setting, even if you get a 5w full tube from the guy in Sabah, you won't sound anywhere close.
Your best bet, is to find a very dynamic solidstate amp, HnK comes into mind, use your GT6 with the boogie rectifiier modeller. Should bring you close enough I guess.
I much prefer his AT100 tho, sounds right for the type of songs he excels at best. Never really liked his heavier stuff. tongue.gif

I Said that hand built tube amps, you can probably get cheaper.... and yes. I remembered about the guy in Sarawak.

But don't forget, he's buying it FROM the US and bringing back. But as mentioned, by the time you modify the voltage and all, it's going to come back to the same price as getting it in Malaysia.

And the Vox AD15VTXL is going for around Rm915.

The vox valvetronix series DOES use a tube in the power-amp section, but it's usually the 12AX7 tube, which is a pre-amp tube. It's used to re-create the response like how a full tube amp would perform, but it still sounds, for lack of a better word, synthetic. Same goes with the Marshall Valvestate, except that's in the pre-amp stage. These hybrids just try to re-create the tube tone via circuitry (aka, solid state), but then adds a little response and color to the tone. But once cranked up to it's full volume, you can instantly tell the diff.

Alot of people argue that a Full-Tube (Meaning the amplifier uses tubes in both the pre-amp and power amp stages) produces much warmer and "rounder" tones, which is noticeable in classic rock tones where the "crunch" or overdrive has a more natural sound.

But that doesn't mean that tube amps are the best. Alot of artists still use Solid state amps for their unique tones. Dimebag Darrell, god rest his soul, used Randall solid state amps before switching to Krank shortly before he passed away. His most recognizable tone was always solid state amps, especially the Randall Warhead. BB King also uses solid state amps for his tone and he seems happy with it.

Wow, 100W TSL, would it be too loud to use at home biggrin.gif

I'm also curious to look for smallish tube amps which can be used at home. Preferaby within 5 to 15W and with 8 or 10 inch speakers.
One clean channel would be sufficient and must be able to take pedals well.

The peavey valveking looks good. Where can you get it in Malaysia?

Any suggestions?

Well, the TSL 100W was in use in Akarkarya. It definitely had more oomph, but for my smaller room, my 60w suits me fine.
I tried cranking it up quite loud one time, my whole house LITERALLY shook. But it was G-O-O-D.

Bugera amps will have road show in Central market this Saturday if I recall correctly.
Full tube amps which copies Peavey 5150 circuitry made by Behringer.

Hopefully it's well priced, it's bout time we had affordable fulltubes.

You'll need to do research for a well known brand for the transformer, don't risk your amp getting fried =)
