Other than Langkawi & Labuan, u probably can get cheap in Tioman . Also, you can visit those duty free complexes in the border passing such as the Stulang Laut Ferry terminal (Eden hotel ) & also Bkt Kayu Jitam duty free complex.
However if u asking for nearer to KL...probably u can chk wth some of the Liquour shops in Port Klang..(Someone told me long time ago, those shops got jalan to get duty free liquor.. ..Well I'm not sure & din check ,yself ) |

The airport rental oledi killed off the cheap status of those duty free goods.. Well, it's abit cheaper than outside but not as cheap as those in Langkawi, Labuan, Stulang Laut, Bkt Kayu Hitam, Tioman & now Limbang

Langkawi and labuan, so cheap its like drinking orange juice.
Beer cans there are also cheaper than mineral water, no joke. But if it's within KL then you need to know someone who can provide you cheap liquor eg: smuggled. |

there's a place in JB where you can buy duty free liqour (is it ZON?)
but beware you have to go through the custom so my suggestion will be go late night just right before it closes then you head to the club till midnight. by that time, those custom officers already went back to sleep so you can bring back those liqours without any hassle |

Do you intend to buy a lot? Otherwise just buy at your local liquor place la. If you do intend to buy in bulk, enquire at liquor stores to get a wholesale price!

QUOTE(Hybz @ Apr 30 2008, 02:28 PM) Yea, if original liquor mean the bubble will fade away very fast ... ROFLMAO dunno where you guys learn all these rumours. The only way to distinguish the so called "fake" liquor is by drinking it and u'll know how it feels in the morning. Also it depends on your personal choice of drink. Most of these fake liquors are the ever so famous Johnny walker Red labels and black labels. Anyways, I travel between labuan and KL a lot, you let me know what you need and how much u need. I'll get u the drinks u want. important thing is qty the more u buy the better the price i give u lah. But guarantee original and price also cheaper than u can buy in KL. Just let me know the qty and ur drink of choice. If the liquor mix with water, you'll see the bubble for long time if you shake the bottle I wonder if there is any fake liquor w/o mix with water. That mean must use other technique or use your 'taste' ... Chinese medical shop sell cheaper than Cold Storage .... p.s. U can also get duty-free goods from Pernama ( especially for military personnel) |

QUOTE(St.Daring @ Apr 27 2008, 07:27 PM) Limbang is 1 of the most remote town in Malaysia, only accessible by air (from msia side) or land thru brunei. Due to its remoteness from msia, it had became a illegal duty free town. 1 can of beer cost around B1.00 / RM2.30. Not as cheap compare to langkawi/labuan. Liquor is cheaper but the variety not that much. |

QUOTE(atomica @ Nov 8 2008, 05:01 PM) I don't think all the bottles sold at Shiraj are genuine. I have done a comparison between Dewar's purchased at Giant and Shiraj. The quality of Dewar's purchased at Shiraj was lower compared to Giant's. |

nowdays alot of counterfeit liquor bottles..esp whisky. so jus becareful lar. i used to buy from shiraz alot..their balentines and dewars seems original...duno bout chivas though.. and bout kingfisher in bfields..im damn sure its all fake there..from drinkin experience. i drank their bombay saphire, it taste so different from the ori version. so yeah, better get ready for a puking session if ur buyin from bfields.

another minimart that I have been... Wah Seng at old klang road... they have lot of variety of hard liquor. Ori or Fake not too sure, bcos i just purchase beer that mostly. Beer there are cheap and lot of variety, like San Miguel, kingfisher and etc.. RM5.20 per 500ML for San Miguel... it is near Pearl Point, if you are from PJ... keep right when you pass by OUG traffice light junction, then you see pearl point hotel at your right and traffic light... turn into right immediately when u see Pearl Point... go straight you will see shop lots at your left... u will see Wah Seng just at you left few lots away from 7-11...
hope that's help... cheers... |

Unfortunately to say.... The cheapest liquor in Malaysia can only be found at either Langkawi or the Airport...
@cutevb19: Before you open up the Chivas, take a close look at the bottle cover... If it's not opened before, you should be able to see a sticker with some bar-code over it... That sticker is basically the main thing we look out for whether it's original or fake... Every bottle is registered with the Custom, and so it'll have higher credibility to be a real one... Hard to say though, in some cases where they manage to smuggle in real Chivas, there won't be any stickers there... Correct me if i'm wrong!! |

Correct me if i'm wrong!! 2) Believe or not, even experienced seller dunno how to differentiate real or fake liqour. - why? fake 1 use genuine bottle, genuine box, even they can make the cap almost 99% same as genuine 1. the only fake is liqour inside or semi-fake liqour (mix with others liquid). 3) stickerless can be genuine, can be fake, even those 1L pack. 4) hard liqour hv many classes. u can hear ppl say 1st class, 2nd class, 3rd class, which 1st class is the top notch. how to check for fake liqour 1) Mixed liqour - check the bottle around (open ur eyes big as u can) esp bottom part. if hv a small hole means it's been drilled, sucked up & refilled with cheap liqour or water. 2) Totally counterfeit - genuine or fake until after u taste it. (counterfeiter subsitute wif cheap/low quality liqour or selfmix wif pure water + artificial colours + flavouring) - as i mention above quite hard to differentiate, they r pro |

greetings:
1. I heard that by shaking the liquor to check the amount of bubbles is also another way to differentiate genuine or fake liquor. True? 2. Liquors and beers being sold at supermarkets (tesco, cold storage, giant etc) are genuine ones, true? thanks |

its not easy to different fake and real bottle. nowaday a lot of big player already change their bottle design such as sealed cap to minimize fake alcohol. that's why u can see such as chivas, black label all changed to sealed cap. my advise to avoid fake bottle, forget about big player like chivas, black label, martell, hennessy... just buy something else will do. :-)

fake Hoegarden very easy to spot. Fake one is clear. u can see through the beer n bottle. Ori one the beer is very cloudy and you cant see thru the bottle. I went to Hoegarden distributor, they tell me all Chinese Medicine shop sell fake one. They even fake the duty sticker n distributor name sticker on the beer.

Not all Chinese medicine shop sell fakes. More like smuggled even though got duty paid stickers.
Open one bottle and compare to bottle bought at twice the price at supermarkets and there's no difference. So definitely genuine but smuggled or from army supplies. Same with whisky, brandy. Best way to tell fake or not is to taste it! |

How about ways to tell other fake brandy eg. hennesy vsop, martell vsop, etc? QUOTE(marcocwp @ Mar 27 2014, 06:06 PM) There is a 3 digit code on the seal and on the bottle. Hennessy vsop and martell vsop does not have a code to identify whether it is fake or original. The best is to buy from authorised wholesaler. If you can get duty paid hennessy vsop below rm160 it is probably fake because moet hennessy just had a price increase in march. Martell vsop below rm140 is fake.
There are alot of fake brandy n whisky outside and ppl who sell fake usually will tell you it is stock from custom or langkawi and etc. try to avoid buying from ppl who dont have a shop and deliver to your door step. Buy from authorised distributor to avoid getting fake stuff. As the bottle you cant really tell the difference because fake liquor will use original bottle to refill. best is to look at the seal and original seal is very tidy and neat. What I am referring to is brandy and whisky but not wine. As we know there are a lot of fake branded brandy and whisky in the market and people are conned by these seller who sell non genuine bottle.
There are people too who sell online and does not own a store. However my point is to highlight the tactics and ways fake reseller sell their product. Recently there are a lot of liquor and wine shop mushrooming in klang valley and just beware and double check on the items you are buying. |

Tong woh is good for some brands but not others. For example, they are the distributor/agent for Nikka whisky so if you want Nikka, best to get from them.
Marcocwp is good but I think he very busy nowadays. He is also distributor but range and price is probably better than Tong Woh for certain brands This post has been edited by audionutter: Oct 30 2014, 10:19 PM |

Cheapest I've found in Malaysia is in Langkawi. Even when compared to other duty free islands like Tioman and Labuan.
Buy from more reputable chains to reduce likelyhood of landing with a counterfeit. Poor reputation comes back to bite the shops, and bigger chains can't afford that. So far, bottles that I bring across on my monthly trips are safe. Yamazaki, Glen-xxx, Mckellan, wines.... Hardly any stories of low grade or counterfeit beer these days. Margins too small. |

beware of the counterfeit macallan 12 and 18 that is flooding the market. Genuine macallan has a green reflective sticker on the neck of the bottle. The logo is a castle together with serial no. The sticker will be spoilt once taken out from the bottle neck.

macallan 18 at rm300 per bottle is definitely fake. Look at the security seal (green colour) on the neck with serial no. Once you can peel off the whole security seal in one piece it is fake. Original security seal once you peel it off it will be broken.

CGK (Jakarta) prices are in USD and its more expensive than KUL. Please note for travellers, CGK does NOT have alcohol duty free coming into their country, only exiting. I started with Macallan 18 some years ago but tadak duit for so expensive. Atleast not a full bottle. I do enjoy smooth sweet ones. Which was actually one of the reasons I gravitated towards scotch after that Mac18 experience. I'm strictly a social drinker (except for lemon lime bitters ) but found scotch ok and becoming the drink I order when the occasion calls for it. Besides JW's collection of 200mlx4 bottles (RM498@KLIA@ DFS), any place I can get samplers, either foc or buy? Especially Macallan Can be loose or 100ml, doesnt matter. I saw Glenfiddich Age of Discovery Mix 200mlx3 bottles, 19 yrs (RM420@KLIA@ DFS) but I don't think its what I'm looking for. |

Smooth and sweet - want to bring cost down try bourbon or Canadian whiskey.Things like knob creek are a fraction the cost. Mac18 at 1k price point, maybe can try jap jamasaki 12, 18 is close to that price too and extremely hard to find. Jap brands may go no age statement due to demand, Nikka already doing that this month This post has been edited by patryn33: Aug 16 2015, 08:40 PM |

QUOTE(Redbean-ish @ May 8 2019, 04:45 PM) Surely fake. I heard from my friend, his friend supplies fake liquors to many renowned pubs and bars in KL. And those pubs know they are buying fake liquor. Buy 1 JD bottle for RM50 sell to customer for RM300. Beware...counterfeited liquor is rife in Malaysia...even in chinese medical halls and pubs. The only safe place to buy is at airport/hypermarket like Giant, Tesco, Jaya Grocer, Village Grocer etc. |

any Chinese baijiu lovers here? Found out it's rarer than panda in Malaysia to find avid baijiu fanatics.
I myself considered one, but too poor to afford more and too troublesome to jump through the hoops of kastam to import... so planning to stop drinking soon. |

QUOTE(ronalho2003 @ Dec 2 2019, 11:59 AM) Easydrinks sell fake liquor... For online purchase, i tried the kanpai.myBought one bottle Henny and it is Chinese medication alcohol inside... their price is marked slightly below the market rate as their mother company is liquor distributor. plus they sometime give vouchers too |
