When you have a floyd guitar, I think it helps to have longer lasting strings.

At least you don't have to go thru the restringing process that often smile.gif. floyd owners would understand. smile.gif

i think hairy means either the wound strings start coming off(like nylon strings?) or the rust builds up laugh.gif

I tihnk he meant hairy, by the nano/poly coat starts to peel off where you usually pick.
I usually get that after a week of playing, doesn't really affect tone nor does it start to rust though.

My elixirs are 2 weeks now... still feels like new. smile.gif Let's hope it can be this way 2-3 months out.
*
2-3 months is how long it takes for the sound to begin to dull.
It'll probably then go all the way till it snaps. =p

While my favorite strings ever are black DR Handmade strings, elixir's are almost just as great and a helluva lot easier to find. I got 5 packs earlier this year and I'm still using the 1st one! The only strings that last as long are probably old skool Pyramid strings, but the new ones dont seem to have the lasting brightness. Even when the Elixirs get a lil tarnished, a wipe down with some steel wool and lemon oil will do the trick.

DR black beauties ?
How do they sound compared to Elixirs, I have been using Elixirs for bout 2-3 yrs now
so far I think i ran through 5-6 packs of electrics and 1 pack of acoustic (My acoustic is only 6 months old)

My strings just became flaky at the picking area. How do you guys get rid of that?
*
Haha, I just leave them until I pick them all off. =p
