muahaha, i'm very lousy at games too.
at least with ps1 and ps2, there were gameshark and codebreaker codes to help when stuck at difficult points. but now with 360 "achievements" and certain ps3 games where saves kenot be shared and cheatcodes are not possible, i find certain games impossible to progress on my own |

I don't think games got harder. They just got more advanced. With the advancements came new ways to play. As games have more, more, more to do, we tend to overlook actual gameplay over the game features. I used to complete every single game I owned back then, but now? The last game I ever completed recently was Halo 2 and Ninja Gaiden back in 2005. I have never completed a game ever since (fighting games don't count). Attention span waning. Man, I'm old
As for hard games, I think the 8-bit and 16-bit days contained among the most difficult games for the time, if not ever. I don't think I ever completed a Contra, Shinobi or Ninja Gaiden back in the day. Surprisingly, I used to remember trying endlessly to complete a particular level (just one more level...). Now, old guy that I am, I can say with certainty that I don' have the time or patience to complete a game any longer. Which brings back the statement that games are harder... |

QUOTE(megadisc @ Apr 23 2008, 02:43 PM) I am also a gamer in late thirties - agingamer Recently, I completed God of War 2, Ghost Recon 2, CoD4, Drake's Fortune and Army of Two(via co-op campaign). I don't think games are not becoming more difficult but I think we have less time as we get older. Many other responsibilities - family, work, other forms of entertainment (movies, tv, internet surfing) and personal development. With so many other activities, after a few rounds of failure one gets frustrated, give up and move on to something else that comes along. However, there will be some games that are guaranteed that I will persist to take to the end, MGS4 for example. Consistently, it has been a game that I play from start to finish since MGS1 to MGS3. I find myself I feel that I am more drawn to games that have a strong storyline and continually to reward me when I manage to clear a section. Reward could be story progression, upgrades, etc. I also feel that some developers designed intelligently paced check points that also helps to reduce some of the frustration of retrying. Now, I will go back and retry that Pixeljunk Monsters level again. |

i remember i used to play warcraft 2 during Uni days. that was really crazy, i could spend >10 hrs a day just playing it.
nowadays (i am near mid-30), i can hardly play a game for more than 3 hours. My back will ache, my eye blurry... i still buy games as collection. as hope that one day i will have the time and strength to play them :-) as for the difficulty level, i do not notice any change. really depending on the genre and how good u are. |

yes. age do have something on difficulties playing games. but on certain genre of games only.
if u like to play those FPS, then definitely it would be a bit hard to catch up with these days' gaming. the same goes to something like The Sim or GTA which requires u to do some thinking but age has nothing to do with Sports game i.e football, driving, or any sports related games. if that oso u got problem, then definitely u ALREADY BORED of gaming |

Err , I guess games becomes easier , or actually when getting older , we gain more intellect to solve puzzles and gain more gaming sense .
I've only started to complete games during the PS2 area , without any cheats . Before that , usually I'll just stucked at some point or use "No clip" cheat to pass through area lol ! Still remembered I really play alot alot of FPS and never finish them like No one Lives Forever , Half Life , Soldier of Fortune , Swat 4 , Ghost Recon , Oni , Nosferatu , RTCW , and etc etc . However , nowadays games like COD4 can be finished in 2 days |

It becomes easier.
Go back to the NES days, you'll literally cry at some of the games on the system. So hard that it isn't even funny anymore. |

Hard? I think it has become easier (aside from some games from the land of Japan and some other intentionally hard games). Auto regen = win!!!

I've play games since Nintendo 64 era. Move to computer game in my college days & back to console after University. I've most of this gaming system in the market except PS3. Looking forward to get it once MGS4 launch.
I'm in my early 30's & I could hardly spend 2 hours a day with my games. Guess my total gaming hour per week is less than 8 hours compare to my old hardcore gaming days (5-6 hours per day). My personal opinion, games level doesn't get harder compare to the old days. In fact, it is the other way round. Most games has become more linear & forgiving in order for gamer to enjoy the full content of the game (not all games though). However, games level has become more complex & gameplay has evolved so much. Do agreed with some of the bros mentioned "responsibility" is taking a toll of my gaming hours. Such as work, internet surfing, self improvement reading, spending quality time with family & friends... I could go on & on. Nowadays I spend more times with my PSP. It is not as time consuming as consoles. I can't complete most of the games like I use to during my college days. Recently completed "Kane & Lynch" "God Of War" "Final Fantasy VII:CC" "Patapon". If you notice, all above are short games. Now continuing with MHF2. My Xbox360 kena ROD & currently under surgical repair. Just when I'm about to complete "Lost Odyssey" However, don't think I could ever give up gaming. It's PASSION... |

Well they are getting more demanding now but I don't mind it one bit. With micro genius u dont have shoulder buttons. Then the PS came along with their shoulder buttons and analog sticks and then u have to deal with using ur thumbs and ur index fingers to play FPS. I never had the chance to play FPS using analog sticks (started with the ps3) and it took a month or two of good gaming hours to be good with it.
Now we have motion tilt sensors in the ps3 and it's taking all of my skill trying to control the warhawk while using the analog sticks at the same time and the shoulder buttons. It's pretty demanding, and that's the way I like it! |
