QUOTE(uchan @ May 25 2008, 11:29 AM) 3G iphone in australia? which telecom will get the authorization from apple of australia? rumours say if released in australia, they might also sell the unlocked ones, directly from apple shop.. both optus and vodafon has confirmed that they will bring in the iphone.. not sure about three and telstra.. not sure when, hopefully on the 9th.. QUOTE(LaskarCinta @ May 25 2008, 11:54 AM) mmm...maybe the announcement will be on june 9th, but it's still not in market at that time. i hope they'll release it within 24hr after they've annnounced it.. haha.. *prays hard* QUOTE(frozzbyte @ May 25 2008, 12:21 PM) @jakesean U'r gonna be the lucky ones. HSPA speed in australia (telstra) gonna go up to 42 Mbps. Couple with the 3G iPhone ... u got blazing speed. not really.. that also depends on the telco that im suscribed to.. n it wont be until the end of this year.. but, im really sure that data charges wont be cheap..

QUOTE(terencetoo @ May 25 2008, 12:36 PM) 42Mbps...wow tats was great..even at singapore cant achieve the speed... only Telstra? what about 3/Optus? not really useful if everyone is limited to some form of download quota..

QUOTE(=Hanxz= @ May 26 2008, 05:59 PM) the limit is limited to 160GB there right? it would be more than enough to download not really.. 1gb+- .. even home users have an average of 4gb download quota (per month) in australia.. 3 is offering AUD15, broadband, having 1gb download quota per month... one of the well-known ISP in australia, iiNet, is offering ADSL2+, 60GB download quota for AUD79.90, per month.. and that's for home users... that's one of the cheapest available.. maybe thats why apple decided not to release the phones in malaysia, or msian telco's didnt want to sign a contract with apple.. coz that will happen.. they lose money instead..

QUOTE(opiluke_are @ Jun 10 2008, 04:13 PM) Guys my apologies if this is a stupid question. I think, maxis do have a subsidies on phone, say that if we sign contract with their package we can buy phone at cheaper price, refer linke below; http://www.maxis.com.my/personal/myMaxisdeal/default.aspDoes this marketing strategy is the same with AT&T do with iphone? if does, why maxis never try to apply it with iphone. I'm interested with the idea to write letter to maxis and get customer sign, maybe instead of letter we can use some sort of online petition and send to them. This might work because the law is simple, when there is demand there will be supply, isn't it? Cheers. not always...

i will probably buy one or two back back to malaysia (on my next trip back in december) and re-sell it... that also depends on Optus's T&C..

QUOTE(opiluke_are @ Jun 10 2008, 04:16 PM) @jakesean yes its true not always, but have we try to at least? :? yah.. and yes , the petition will OBVIOUSLY sky-rocket with lots of people signing, but, at the same time i highly doubt that maxis will even consider it, even if u have 12389873 petitions.. in..

QUOTE(zc_squash @ Jun 10 2008, 04:46 PM) I believe it'd be a standard practice worldwide. If that's the case, the current gen iPhone will still have its value. The weird thing is, i seen a couple of 3G iPhone pre-order threads in Garage Sales. One even claiming he could bring it in BEFORE 11th July @_@ I don't know if they are unaware of the different purchase policy Apple is adopting now or...is it just a scam? most likely its a scam.. plus the 3G iphone is still new, if they're doing it that way, meaning its illegal.. if its illegal, they will not be entitled to any warranty.. so, if wat they're trying to say is true, good luck to those who are gonna get it from them.. i'll stay safe and probably get it from Optus or Vodafone.. that is if i have the $$ ..

QUOTE(blackchides @ Jun 10 2008, 04:55 PM) Sorry to rain on your parade but even if you get it from Optus/Vodafone and bring it back here, you still won't have warranty. Also, iPhone on prepaid plans would be more expensive. Of course, it's better than not being to get one at all. Just curious to see what the price is like for prepaid iPhone's.. thats ok.. i've also thought of the other possibilities.. but.. if i bring it back and sell it in msia, the onlyy way to claim the warranty is to send it back to australia and then i have to sort it out myself.. if thats the case then im probably looking for trouble.. no way i will bring it back to malaysia..

QUOTE(blackchides @ Jun 10 2008, 05:08 PM) Haha, if it's anything like the US, you wouldn't be able to claim warranty even if you bring it back there because you need an active account for them to service your phone. So the only way is to keep the prepaid account alive if you want the warranty. Then again, what are the odds of an iPhone breaking down? If you don't drop it on the floor every 2 days, that is.. no big deal for me.. coz ill be here probably for a very long time.. haha.. plus who says im the one that will be paying for the monthly fees.. haha.. anything can breakdown anytime.. better to be safe than sorry..
