KUALA LUMPUR: RHB Capital Bhd’s net profit for the first quarter ended March 31 rose 52% to RM222.4mil from RM146.3mil a year ago, underpinned by higher net interest income and interest savings from its capital management exercises.

Announcing the impressive results Tuesday, RHB Capital said profit after irredeemable non-cumulative convertible preference shares (INCPS) dividends and before taxation was RM309.9mil, up 13% from RM273.5mil a year ago.

RHB Capital said the better performance was due to higher net interest income, with loans and advances growing by 2% to RM58bil.

“Interest savings arising from the group’s capital management exercises which were completed in January this year and the refinancing of the INCPS which was previously accounted for separately have contributed positive to the improvement in performance,” it said.

As at March 31, net non-performing loan ratio improved further to 3.23% from 3.43% as at Dec 31 last year. The group’s loan loss coverage improved to 74.7% from 71.4% as at Dec 31.

guess this will help rhb in climbing tomorrow

We are calling for a sell now and buy in extreme weakness in the months of June-August to
prepare for the year end rally. What’s the basis of our call? The reason is, if you hold on to
your stocks now, it may stay the same or will most likely depreciate in the light of volatile
political events in the future. So why not sell now and sustain a few minor bruises while
waiting for far cheaper prices?
