hello there guys,

i just bought a 1.1.4 Iphone,

every thing works fine but only the Wifi features. i am currently using a 014 service, itune 7.6.2.9

and when ever i want to logon to the internet "safari" or "mail" a pop up will appear from no where saying
"safari can't open the page because it can't find the server" and follow by "could not active EDGE: you are not subscribed to EDGE" however there are some times i can connect to the Wifi but in most cases i cant

however i dont think there is any thing wrong with the connection because i can connect to the Wifi via my laptop (but not the iPhone)
and just to add on, i still cant connect to the wif (iphone) thought i am standing right beside the router

hurm...actually your iphone should use wifi if there's wifi connection presents.if not,it will try to connect using edge.by default,u have to get into the settings menu, and switch on and connect to your wifi manually.but, the second time u're gonna connect,u just have to switch on the wifi button only.your wifi won't connect automatically if u set it at OFF.

I have the same problem as well.. googled for the solutions and found a couple of tips which requires reseting the network settings to factory settings.. not sure if its gonna work.. yet.. anyone able to connect to public wifi service before? e.g wifi service at Starbucks/Coffee Bean/Dome ? EDGE is kinda slow for Maxis and it'll be better if can connect to a wifi service.. icon_question.gif

Don't expect the iPhone to have the exactly same connection speed with you notebook cause sometimes the length of the antenna is different.

well for your info i did exactly the thing u mention "connect manually" and i dont think I am having any problem with the manual connection cuz after the manual connection, i can c a "tick" on the network provider.
however when i search through the net...the pop up appear. N stating "m not subscribe to EDGE" n kinda stuff...pls helpppp

When I first got the iPhone I always connected to Edge instead of the public wi-fi when I go for out coffee. It got really expensive cos I was downloading alot of things. So I installed 'Services' which allows me to switch off my Edge.

Then after awhile I couldn't reconnect to Edge when I was at a place with no wi-fi. So I went to Settings - General - Reset - Reset Network Settings and that resolved it all. Now I can use either Edge or wi-fi through my 'Services'. I normally switch off everything and only switch it on when I want to connect.

And to answer Obee's question if anyone can use wi-fi's at Starbucks, Dome etc, yes, I always connect at public wi-fi's and have no problem.

From your statement seems like u r so sure it's because of the unlocking method used. Well to tell u the truth ... its not from that and your suggestion for them to use the Dev Team Grey WiFi Fix may cause more harm than solving it. Its been warned that only use the WiFi fix if your phone's WiFi is GREYED as in you can't even go in the WiFi setting to turn it on/off ... what more to say selecting the WiFi Access Point.

Sometimes it may look like your connected to the Access Point but cant surf the net. Check if u have been allocated with IP Address, Subnet Mask and Router. If u don't have these 3 then u don't have access to the net. When iPhone can't access to the net thru WiFi then it look for the 2nd option which is EDGE. Thats why u got the error message in safari saying EDGE is not available. This thing usually happen with public WiFi, it seems like you are connected but infact u r not.

Like Imzadi said ... u can try and reset the network setting and reboot the phone. No need to reset everything.

Did u reboot the phone after u reset the network setting? When u switch on WiFi and select your home wireless router ... did u check if u have the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Router? One more thing ... is your router set to use WEP coz from what i hear, iPhone/Apple product can't use WEP.

I have similar problem too. I have wifi in my campus and thus i can connect for free, but to certain areas. So my credit in the phone keep on deducting and i used RM25 in just 2 days. Is it because when there is no wifi coverage i will use up my own credit? If so what can i do to stop this? Any setting to change?

Bro, do a reset on your network settings, then make sure you also erase all the EDGE setting if there still exist.
