ahhh... finally after playing around with the tv settings i found out why
i get distortions. it only happens when i set it to 'super wide' under the
screen settings.

just curious what other pv80h owners have on their color settings?
brightness / color / etc?
*
According to the Manual you should set side panel to "HIGH" to counter image retention.

What you mean by "Super Wide", there is only Zoom1, Zoom2 and Zoom3, Just etc...there is no "Super Wide" selection

Added on August 19, 2008, 12:04 pmALL Panny 42PV80HM users i have a question for you, do you have the "Auto" selction under "Aspect"

The given manual does not state it too but as per pdf manual on panasonic malaysia website, there is an "Auto" aspect ???

Nevermind as per the spec. on their website it also states no Auto aspect...That must be for some other model(s).

I didn't see any "Auto" option on my 42PY800. It goes from 16:9, 4:3, Zoom 1, Zoom 2 and Zoom 3. Sometime I see also a option called "Just" but not sure what is it for.
*
Just = Displays 4:3 image full screen, stretching only on left and right edges...

You can try to sell it to Cash Converter or Buy & Sell second hand shop, they do buy good second hand product from people to re-sell it.  thumbup.gif

i know PQ and AQ and of course budget are impt when selecting a HDTV..but do consider after sales service too

My Panny (still under warranty) got into some problem and I lodged my complaint to their customer service centre on Thurs morning.

The CS personnel was very professional and courteous and assured me that a technician will call to fix an appointment.

Next morning, a technician called and wanted to drop by same day (unbeleivable) but Friday being a working day I postponed it to Sat.

Come Sat morning he turned up on time (unbeleivable x 2) and quickly identified the problem and changed some IC part on the spot. All this without the need for me to show my purchase bill or warranty card.

He promised to call on Mon to check that problem is completely solved and he did (unbeleivable x 3).

Just to share my experience.

Cheers!!!

That is really good to know...since i just got a Panny plasma. Warranty card, i guess yours must be a new model so must be still be under warranty.

B/W response time is more important. G/G is generally faster. The problem is no manufacturer use the same tests, and all stats are conjured up from whatever "test" that can give them the fastest marketing time. Of course 4ms is better then 8ms, but exactly what method they use to get that result is normally not revealed. Also certain colors hold longer than others... so grey to grey may be 4ms, but, say, black to white may be as high as 18ms, leading to bluriness during your typical Saturday Night EPL matches.

Best is use your own eyes at the shop. Ask them to cough up the remotes too so you can play around with the settings. I've seen a couple of people burn DVDs of a typical ASTRO EPL match and other sports to playback at the shop to test how good the LCDs are at displaying ASTRO and sports. Think it's a pretty good idea, especially when big outlets like Harvey and Best purposely don't have ASTRO feeds for you to compare with. Any cheapo LCD will look good with a HD feed. tongue.gif

"Acceptable range" is actually dependent on your own eyes. Some people still find 120hz 4ms screens blurry, but some people (like my mom) are happy watching an old 18ms Philips LCD without noticing anything "blur". Everyone has their own tolerance level.

Long viewing on LCD's have the same effects on me, my eyes get tired too.

Movies i can say Plasma is the better choice but PS3 i am not sure, some say LCD.

He meant that there is a known part that could fail very early/fast.
