In case you haven't read this, very good article :

"As for deep black levels, plasma HDTVs are still king of the hill..." rclxms.gif

Read more here - Some salespeople still think flat-panel LCDs beat plasmas icon_idea.gif

I did my survey at Jaya Jusco, SenQ, AES, China man shop.
I found I could hardly see the real action of plasma tv.

In JB, I always see crystal clear PQ on LCD while the PQ on plasma is rather fugly.
You go figure out why.  laugh.gif

Check out the source of all these TVs and their setting. Try on fast action movies and dark scene...check it side-by-side.

Finally read this article : Don't trust the salepeople cool2.gif

These photos are for those who want to "judge" PQ of 42PV80 on ASTRO. FYI, I'm using Philips s-video cable to connect ASTRO and Panny plasma. Picture taken with Nikon D80, lense 50mm at ~ f/2.0, shutter speed 1/30-1/60, no post processing except image resizing cool2.gif !

More photos...for LOTR, it is a "ahemm-ahemm" DVD, plugged to 42PV80 using component cable (no upconversion/upscaling at all). Enjoy it guys.... rclxms.gif

from the photos, it looks good with just a normal S-Video cable. using Monster will have more improvements i guess. anyway, the photos makes me drool more for 42PV80H now!  drool.gif
*
Mine not that "normal" s-video cable. I'm using PHILIPS cable which cost around RM100.

the pictures look bit "fat and short". can we retain the 4:3 ratio of the Assthrow signal albeit with two black bars on each side of the wide screen display ?
*
You can set 4:3 aspect ratio (at your Panny TV) for ASS-TRO, but the picture will look small and there will be two black bar on left-right side. Nothing can be done about this until ASS-TRO provide 16:9 aspect ratio for their broadcasting.

and on the Lord of the rings photo in the post, why is there still two black bars on the north and south of the display? Even if the video is set to super wide mode and not 16:9, the black bars cannot be that deep! Abahwafi, care to explain? The video should sit perfectly on the Panny display with no bar what so everĀ  smile.gif
*
I can't really explain that, maybe because it is a "ahemm-ahemm" DVD version. I believed the original one will match perfectly on Panny TV screen. BTW, U can set the aspect ratio to "zoom" if you want to "hide" the black bars...but sometimes it will also take away some portion of the movie screen.

rx330 is right rclxms.gif ...i found this from : http://www.projectorcentral.com/formats.htm

QUOTE
Displaying 2.35 Movies on a 16:9 Screen

Keep in mind that when it comes to DVD movies there is a formatting issue to consider. Many movies are wider than 16:9. For example, Seabiscuit, The Lord of the Rings, Dances with Wolves, Tombstone, The Fifth Element, U-571, American Beauty, and Star Wars/Phantom Menace (to name a few) are all 2.35:1, not 1.78:1. When you display these movies on a 16:9 screen you will have black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, each bar amounting to about 12% of the picture height. The bars are not as large as they would be on a 4:3 screen, but they are there nevertheless.
