I dunno about Pulau Ketam but I have experience the seafood at Bagan Lalang. About 1 hour from KL though. It has nice and fresh seafood. The restaurant is near to Seri Malaysia Hotel and named Restoran makanan laut Wak. Its crowwded during dinner but their seafood fresh and price are unbelievable.

Haha I missed this thread....The jetty is located at N2 59.911 E101 23.500 or opposite the last KTM Commuter station.

If u are using malsingmaps search for passenger Cruise Terminal or "Jetty to P Ketam"

My last trip is last year... seafood so-so only and there is no single Steamboat in P Ketam..Dunno how those Steamboat restaurants in KL get their name from hmm.gif

& to the question of Pulau Ketam...I do believe the name from the red Crab which can be found only there..do try this red crab..RM28/kg...big one I missed this red crab bcos not sure of the pricing...

Don't expect much there-lah. Go there to snap photos & visiting the unique chinese stilt houses...This community + the one in Sg Lima (Another big settlement in Northern tip of Pulau Ketam, is probably the largest stilt communities in Malaysia.

The leaving condition is much better than my 1st visit way back in early 1990. So is abit cleaner....but still u can expect to see dirty & muddy environment + the smell of stinky fish/mud & etc from below those houses...Lotsa wooden walkways had been replaced wth concreate ...And another suprisingly new law banning all motorised tranportation on the island except boats/ferries..meaning no motorbike on the island..only bicycles! Food so-so only and not really cheap....The P Ketam famous crab...is selling at RM28/kg which I think should be reasonable after seing the size of the thing..but 1 smaller crab itself probably already ~600-700g

Not so sure which one recommended but go for those crowded one-lah..The one facing jetty abit quiet & less ppl compare to those inner at Jln 1 (After the police station & Hospital) - I hv tried Kia Hon Haun - so-so only -It's in malsingmaps...but subsequently more malsingmaps members visited the islands and came back wth more recommended restaurant & roads..U can check those recommended on in malsingmaps - I think the only GPS maps wth P Ketam roads in M'sia right now....Do contribute new roads when you are there... biggrin.gif rclxms.gif ..If possible do visit Sg Lima (Local called it "Gour Kan"...sg Lima-lah in Hokkien.. biggrin.gif Seems like no tourist visited that settlement yet.... sad.gif

Huh so late..ha..better stay overnite...Not sure whether the ferries operate at nite. BTW, there is no ticket counter at the Port Klang Jetty (Unless u wanted to goto Dumai or Tg Balai in Sumetera -probably my nxt trip). Just go straight to the jetty & wait for the covered aircon feerry & dun take the "local" anctic ferry bcos the journey is damn slow & stop at every private jetties around Sg Lima & P Ketam...if u dun ask the boat conductor, u might end up in the wrong settlement! - The aircon ferry will be faster & only few stops but u can't snap much photos bcos it's covered!!

The ticketing system is almost similar to normal bus hop-in & conductor will go around asking for fare...RM5/pax if I still can remember.. hmm.gif ..children foc.. hmm.gif Hehe I might be wrong here..

No wave wan unless storm. There are 2 types of ferries - The antique open air type as per the above photo & those aircon type simialr to pangkor & Sibu in Sarawak.

Those aircon type faster but hv to wait. Not sure the schedule. ticket pay once you board the ferry- i.e like the olden day bus ticketing system - conductor will go & collect from you!

Used to work there so the pictures gave memories.

If you were a teacher or student there you can get discounted price for the boat fee.. speedboat = RM4.00 woodenboat = RM2.
Enjoyed for 2 years. brows.gif

Most delicious dish I could remember was the crab served in the Lok Hian Restorant. Spicy sweet sauce with mixture of eggs....sweet crabs with no smell...yumyum.

Wondering, are there any Muslim restaurant around there?
Coz need to bring a couple of Muslim friends, and they were reluctant to go to non-Muslim restaurant. Sigh told them dy, they are eating seafood, no such thing as halal non-halal, haih..

May I ask if the pork free restaurants in P Ketam are well accepted by muslim community similar to those chinese operated pork free restaurant bagan hailam/port dickson and etc? the chicken/beef they serve is from halal source? no froggy or terrapin on menu?

Planning to organise a department's day trip there and seafood lunch is one of the main attractions.

Thanks in advance.

pork free is not halal... better find yourself a 100% halal restaurant even if there's only 10% of muslim in ur dept... even some muslim don eat the ketam batu...

Not worth the travelling time from my personal experiences, as I was brought there a couple times by my customers from klang who are 'ketam kia' many years ago.
Dunno about now, but fresh water has to be bought from the mainland as the island doesn't have it's own source of supply.

Sorry, but to me the food are so so only. The food is cheap if you compare KL standards, but to me I think they are not so fresh. Morever, its like their crabs are 2nd grade to crabs sold in KL, thats why you can get them at cheaper price. But it is worthwhile to take a day trip there just tour sake.

No. That place pop almost 99% chinese. That's why long time ago ppl called it Little Hong kong. Transit point is actually those unnamed jetties surrounding mainland Selangor all hidden from Authorities such as those in Banting, Pulau Carrey, Sepang & etc. For sure not Pulau Ketam bcos if they landed in that village, They have to find another boat to carry them to mainland..bad idea.. sumore.. the pop on the island definitely will not help unless $$$$
