We all knew the 3G iPhone would arrive sooner or later, but everything I've read have come from analysts - and we all know how reliable those folks are. However, there's one person in the world that I'd bet the farm on; that guy is Walt Mossberg. Walt (confidently) mentioned in passing in the video below that the "iPhone will be 3G in 60-days." Now that's something you can take to the bank folks. Why? Because everything and anything new that Apple release to market will land on Walt's lap before anyone else outside of Apple.

Well this was found inside the latest beta.
There is a new iPhone coming *very soon*. The new iPhone will have Infineon's SGOLD3 (PMB8878) chip in it's baseband which was found by zibri.

Just a few days ago, De la Vega, CEO of AT&T Mobility told a crowd of journalist and analyst at a media lunch where I was presented that "all devices on AT&T" will be 3G-capable. That was enough to make me wet my pants, so you can imagine how ecstatic I am to hear my man Walt announce the 3G iPhone's arrival around June 4th time frame.





I venture to predict that the new iPhone 2.0 firmware will power the 3G iPhone (iPhone 2 or as Darren of Digg calls it the iPhone Pro) when it breaks cover during Apple's yearly developer meet up. I wonder how Steve Jobs feel about the De la Vega and Walt's premature announcement of the forthcoming iPhone.



In related news, iPodObserver.com published an image showing the back of an iPhone purported to be the new 3G iPhone. Rumors rarely come true, but you never know. From what I can tell from the image, Apple did away with the satin nickel in place of a glossy black back. I'm game for the black over the satin nickel - how about you? Other than that, everything else remains the same, including the 8GB configuration to the flash-less camera.

The iPhone with the black back, is just a customized version from Colorware. It was available for sale at the garage sales forums. The fine print reads 8G. I wouldn't expect Apple to release an 8gb 3G version la.

lol price slash in current iphone? i dont think so. and with the price now, i believe it would be the cheapest
cause ppl r risking it when bringing it into malaysia n sell and ofcause u need to pay for
a certain profit margin for them(dont u expect with all trouble and the cost they have to bare and just earn u Rm50?)
besides that, with the currency now 3.217% we still able to sell at the current price..
but if currency raise(would be expected to raise after US election)
i dont think those sellers in lyn will afford to sell at current price.

actually current iphone is able to do all that, we got swirlymms for mms and there's a third party video recording software that can be downloaded.

what i would like to see is they upgrade their battery life, that's all. other than that, it's perfect. i dun need the 3g anyways.

may i know how long is the battery life as in daily use? need to charge everyday?

Normally one day per charge if surf with wifi and listen to songs, play video. Less wifi then longer standby time.

hehehe...relax dude. btw, still no official statement from Apple on 3G iPhone. anyway, the hints are everywhere (AT&T statement on all phones under its contract will be 3G this year, T-Mobile doing super price cut to clear iPhone, Walt Mossberg's prediction, etc etc). but yeah, still no official launch whatsoever.

one thing i'm wondering though, what if the security check / baseband authentication is done entirely different on this baseband chip (S-GOLD3H)? if yes, izzit still unlockable using BootNeuter? i dunno, but considering that Apple has already playing nice on 1.1.3 > 1.1.4 upgrade, and even the 1.2 ones already get pwned, maybe this is the trick that Apple got hidden in their sleeve.

I hope that Apple is smarter than that this time around. They should know the right thing to do. Please, don't bring down the hopes of everyone. After reading this, I have to say that my hopes are up. 5 megapixels. Come on Apple. I know you can! This is the opportunity to overtake every mobile company.

haha...already noted bout that on the 1st page actually. but the actual rave here now on this thread is the 3G. that "new" design is already none of issue actually.

Mossberg just claimed that the statement he made is not totally accurate but it's based on rumors only. What a lame guy

he could be covering up his words.. we will never know until The Man announces it.. guess we will just have to wait until the launch of the 2.0 software to find out... maybe he'll mention more about it...
