I don't think it's that easy to decide based on brand alone. Both Sharp and Samsung are equally good brands. You'll want to compare which particular model you're interested in. Samsung alone already has many series: S7, S8, R7, R8, and more recently the M series. Only the M series is capable of accepting 1080p signal. I can't comment on Sharp since I haven't used one personally.

I'm using the 32" R8 Samsung model. It has 3 HDMI ports and is 720p native. 360 games look bright and vivid on the TV. Unfortunately, it's not "perfect". HDTV lag can occur if you don't tune it properly. You can practically see framerates drop in games, and in movies it's even worse. I love the TV nonetheless, once you get down to finetuning it.

Do you insist on only these two brands? If you're willing to broaden your option, I'd suggest looking at LG. LG recently released their new 32LB9R TV. It outputs at 720p, but can accept 1080p signal. And the price is only around RM2600. It's worth looking at.

All display devices need tuning to look best. In the case of my Samsung TV, it's not just a matter of tuning the contrast, colour and brightness levels. There are also the colour mode (dynamic, standard or soft), movie mode (on/off), game mode (on/off), frequency (100Hz or progressive) and some others. I know some people who like to turn every option on when tuning their TV. At first glance, everything seems in order, until you start noticing lag in games or movies. I can't comment on other models or brands, but even so you'd want your TV to look its best by finetuning it.
